A dirty charging port or AirPod tail could be the reason behind it. Over time, lint and other debris can build up in the charging port or tail of your AirPods.

@@TrevorNace Mine are 1 week old and their already doing this. My charging ports are extremely clean. I cannot get the amber light to come on no matter how long i hold it down. Any suggestions
