what they don't tell you about living in los angeles| things i wish i would have known..

If you are embarking on a new journey to move to Los Angeles, watch this first. This is just my personal experience and your story will be a totally different path that is meant for you. But here are some things I learned...
Here also are some helpful tips:
Areas I would recommend in LA:
-West LA
-Culver City
-Studio City
-Sherman Oaks
-Redondo Beach
-Marina Del Rey
Areas I would avoid (actual places I have lived in or known someone in)
-Hollywood (dirty...)
-Koreatown (PARKING IS NON-EXISTENT)
-Anything in the valley if your job is in the city (the commute will be harsh)
How much money to bring?
- That is solely up to you. However, please note that most apts charge first, last month and a deposit. So be prepared.
Do I need a car??
-YES. unless you like to get ubers everywhere...bring your car.

She’s correct. I moved to LA for a reason. In the specific space I’m in, opportunities are rife for me, and I kept visiting and building connections until the time came where it made sense to make the move. I basically waited until I was *asked* to be present. Almost all the horror stories I’ve heard about LA from transplants is exactly what she described: lost, aimless with no plan thinking you’re gonna just get in where you fit in. NO. Know what you’re coming here for, and plan accordingly or you will get lost in “Lost Angeles”.

As someone born & raised here, I can assure you the LA area is filled with millions of people who are warm, welcoming, family oriented and non-materialistic.. BUT the trade-off is they typically live in "boring" parts of town that are not very instagram-worthy and don't offer much in the way of advancing high profile careers and/or creative fields. You can choose the flashy career life in LA, or you can choose the smaller authentic community life in LA, but it's very difficult to find & maintain both in the same spot. Almost impossible, to be honest. Hopefully in wherever your next venture is, you are able to find a healthy balance of the qualities you seek 💯

Thank you for saying this. I live in La Puente, a small city 20 minutes outside of downtown. There’s millions of people that are from communities like mine all over LA county. Yet all you here from transplants and people that aren’t from here is how fake LA is and it’s like ‘No ma’am/sir, that’s just the clique of people you linked up with in Hollywood’.

Well said. I lived in LA for 6 years. I had a plan and felt like I really stuck to it for 3 years. Then I found myself getting lost too. It was some of the worst and best times I ever had being out there. I learned and grew so much. The best thing I gained from being there was clarity after going through some of the darkest moments in my life. When I left last October, everything almost immediately changed for the better. I wish I would have left years ago tbh

I’m sorry you had this experience. I hated LA when I came in 2019 and it took me 3 years to really get settled and feel like it was home. I agree and also disagree with everything you’re saying. I agree that yes everyone is hustling. hard and it make it challenging to meet genuine ppl BUT if you are ready to move outside your comfort zone, things will move for you and the possibilities I feel are greater here than anywhere else in almost every industry. Dating is questionable everywhere in my opinion but actually 90% of the men I met did want a serious relationship. I met my now partner within two months of being here. In between us dating on and off I met quality men here. I will note that most of the men that were serious, were not black men. Cost of living is definitely high but you can also get lucky finding affordable places on some FB housing groups. I found the place I live now on Craigslist and it’s under $2000 and in the center of the city…I feel like for me without deep community here, I’ve had to really amp up my spiritual practice. That is what’s keeping me grounded and honesty saved me. Yes the every is a bit weird and ppl can be to themselves but it’s possible to thrive here

My parents met in LA back in the day when it was better. But yes LA now has a lot of problems. Its sad. Im moving back to Texas in two months or so. Its really depressing here. The weather and the nature is nice though. But its like a dystopian. I got so so depressed living here and gained like 10 pounds and didn’t want to workout. But knowing im going back makes me want to go to the gym again. Im so relieved to be leaving its awful. A lot of people here are very ego based. I can’t wait to go back home. Its not a place to make friends either. Many people are coming out about LA being a bad place to live.

Im new to LA, been here a year. I cane out here for the mental healthcare system, doctors, whatever. I haven't had an issue making friends and have met plenty of genuine people. I currently reside in Weho/Hollywood area. Ive definitely noticed the people in this area trying to "Keep Up With The Joneses." I see so many Mercedes, bottom-line basic asss audi's, big body cattilac trucks, etc. I'd definitely say the people around here like to keep up an image, thugh i doubt their savings accounts match their car's price tag. Anyway, Its definitely HELLA EXPENSIVE out here, literally everything is high as fuck. Thankfully Starbucks is still cheap☺️🖤(as in its the same price here as it is everywhere else). But thats my only complaint, well that, and the lack of glamour. Hollywood isnt all that(in my opinion), its dirty as hell, so is the downtown area, and FULL of homeless people. I prefer New York. If youre thinking of moving to LA county, either move to Westwood, Santa Monica, "maybe" Weho(maybe), or just move to New York. BTW, dont try to come out here(or NY) with out a couple grand saved, that's just my opinion on how not to end up on Skid Row(look that shit up if it don't sound familiar).

I would rather live in another state where the people are nicer because they live a better quality life.
