    Indian and BMW Baggers use sensors that automatically do suspension adjustments. Indian also features manual adjustment via interactive computer screen. Both Indian pursuit and BMW transcontinental feature six speakers standard.. and just to let the cat out of the bag.. don’t go to sturgis and try to buy a CVO. A mark up to $58,000 is what it will take at Black Hills Harley.

    The base Indian Challenger already has all of what this bike has except for the hill assist. Heck, Harley even integrated the turn signals into the front fairing. Harley is just doing their best to catch up to what's already out there but for $10,000 more. The Indian Challenger is the best thing that ever happened to Harley. Now Harley has to start stepping up to give their customers more modern bikes so they don't lose any more sales to Indian. This feud is finally going to get to the point where both customer bases enjoy the benefit of better bikes year after year.

    Noooo... it doesn't. The limited and dark horse models do. Those are loaded, and half the price of this HD. The base model challenger, I'd never buy. It's got the power, but missing too much stuff like smart lean, TPMS, navigation, and electronic saddlebags. Only people that make terrible decisions would pick the overpriced, underperforming HD over the Indian.

Is there a variety of camshafts for you to choose from? Cam plates, because the OEM's are 5h!t? Pipes? Big bore kits? ECU upgrades? Suspension? What? Honda just builds the bike to be fast and bulletproof out of the factory? Nah, what vehicle manufacturer does that.

    @@throdown117 Harley Davidson with their slick marketing are seemingly under the impression that if you market the bike as being All American it somehow justifies jacking up the price on everything from a cheaply made sticker to the the engine. Once a Harley is sold they are banking on the buyer adding everything under the sun so they get you coming and they get you going, if you get where I'm coming from. All American in their mind means charge the customer whatever you want because of your patriotism. I swear that probably works really well when you are an American and while I salute American patriotism I am a Canadian that may not have that same enthusiasm just because of where the bike is made. My take on patriotism is that if you have to constantly be telling and charging a premium for that patriotism maybe it's just not worth it in the long run. I don't mean to offend American sensibilities in terms of supporting the country that you love and live in as being patriotic can be a very good thing but at what cost one should be asking themselves. My apologies if my post sounds too political as I am only trying top point out how a motorcycle manufacturer goes about their business.

    Its been on road bikes since the 80's but mostly small displacement 4-pots back then. The idea was that an engine cammed up for (by the standards of the day) massively high rpm could still start, tickover and run properly at lower rpm. It faded out as better knowledge of fueling, ignition and flow dynamics came along but its been coming back over tyhe past 10 years or so thanks to emissions of all things. The system on the VFR was more unique because that was there for the same reason as the car versions - and worked in a similar way. More economy and more power - though how much difference it actually makes is anyones guess. I would love to lock one on vtec and do a before/after run to see what the differences are.

  • @413prototype

    @413prototype

    11 ай бұрын

    Exactly. All that matters is performance on the pavement. People have been getting too caught up in engine size and HP/Torque numbers. For all of that extra $ the performance is less than 1 second difference. Probably 0-60 in 5 seconds instead of 4.5. And that’s if you are a professional drag racer. I remember someone telling me when I used to ride sport bikes and was thinking about cruisers that after he had been in an F-16 everything was slow. Now that’s a jump in performance! Even if the new bikes were 5 seconds faster it wouldn’t matter to me. Isn’t the overall riding experience what really matters? I like a reliable engine, reasonable fuel economy, and enough power to easily pass other vehicles and cruise on the highway. I could care less about the prick-waving people get into. Anyway, as with anything, at some point you reach diminishing returns…like now.

    @@413prototype I agree for the most part but there comes a point where its not a trade off for top end vs torque or longevity or whatever and instead its just making a lazy engine because its cheaper to throw together. Its got vct because emissions regs pretty much forced them to do it. It makes 10hp less than a 1990's TL1000 and only 20 more than an RS660. Given that its almost twice the capacity of the TL (which wasn't known for being gutless, either) and more than three times the size of the RS its getting harder to justify the lack of peroformance. For me the big kicker is in their own range. The revmax throws out between 120hp and 150hp and thats only at 1250cc. Maybe you don't want that much power - fair enough and I can agree again. But. If they threw the revmax tech at an engine this size and set it up for similar power how much better do you think it would be? Certainly it would make a whole chunk more torque over a much wider spread. It would certainly use less fuel too. That extra efficiency doesn't need to mean more power - making better use of the energy in the fuel gives you a lot of options on what to improve. Now remember thats tech they have sitting there and comes in one of their cheapest bikes - the sportster s. Thats a $16,400 bike.
