So this is a long video (DISCLAIMER NO LONGER WITH SEMC SO THIS IS MY OPINION) - I talk a bit about Vainglory history, why it struggled and why we're in this position and what the Vainglory: Community Edition really means. Watch the video for the entire discussion but tl;dr - this is going to kill the game for a lot of you but if you REALLY love vainglory and want it to succeed it also opens up a big opportunity for you to make the game exactly the way that you like it. They kept a few spotlights for the OG characters... watch the videos. They are nostalgic as to when u were a noob and u didn’t know how to play your character lol.

This actually made me wanna tear up. I remember back in 2017, this was the first game that i watched 7 hours of the championship livestream because i loved it so much. I also remember seeing "this game is dead" comments and i've always had hopes for this game but now to see that it's actually dead is so sad. I really hope their project spellfire is gonna blow up so they can be financially stable again.

VAINGLORY has one of the best control schemes ever made for mobile. The touch controls feel legit like a bonafide MOBA game not unlike most that rely on joysticks and "Auto Targeting" mastering this aspect of the game is a huge factor in determining your skill as a player. A MOBA perfected for touch even if I know that people here that don't like that but that's how Vainglory stood out of the rest and innovated it's years. If only I've been born rich, I'd happily donate hundreds of millions to SEMC. They created a game that defined what the genre is meant to be. Not short session/bursts of auto targeting, button mashing, spray and pray imbalanced gameplay (hoping that you get random kills) but a solid one that can compete with any other game of the same genre out there. If only this fucking copycat (MOBILE LEGENDS to Riot games) of a game did not put their crappy cringe ads in KZread every other video.

It lost the competition against mobile legends and they made poor choices. Ive quit playing the game a long time ago and im an og player. Here in SEA all my friends play mobile legends an im the only one that knows vainglory, its only natural that the game is dying. I hope they just end the suffering and shut down the game for once and for all. I dont see much in the future of vg at this point.

@Kazama Pro im an og player of vainglory from sea too, i think vg dying because it quite hard to play with it need lot of skill, time and tactics which not alot of ppl will dedicated their time to learn it. for me vainglory still one of the best mobile game ever, im still hope it gonna comeback, i have alot of great memory with this game

I've been a MLBB player from day 1 and recently I thought about getting into VG cause I got a better phone. But seeing the current state of the game I'm not sure if I want to invest my time in it.

I haven’t played Vainglory since a few months after 5v5 released. It was my first MOBA and it will ALWAYS be my favorite mobile game. I have never deleted the game from my devices because it’s that special to me. It’s very unfortunate that VG will never be the same again.

if only VG was able to release 5v5 on the best possible time then it wouldn't have lost its player base.. SEMC tried so hard to make the game phasing Dota-like..ML was obviously considered a LOL copy..and so majority of the people that plays MOBA prefer action packed gameplay since its a mobile game after all.. noone wanted a slow paced game on a handset device.. cause if they wanted to then they would rather play DOTA on PC..

I have major respect semc, they actually cared about the quality of their game, it was never a money grab. I honestly believe they should have just stuck to 3v3, 5v5 just wasn’t as good in my opinion. All of those hero’s were made for 3v3.

Doomsday Clock the only reason I stopped playing was because the 3v3 mode kind of died out once 5v5 came out. As far as moba’s go, VG will always be the greatest, for me.

@@minimoogle3335 5v5 is what caused the playerbase to leave. it was marketed as a 3v3 MOBA and had the appeal as that. The people who voted for 5v5 weren't dedicated VG players.

Vain glory helped me cope after I got back from Afghanistan 4 years ago So sad to see it go down. :( Vainglory will forever have a special spot in my gamer heart

The game truly died when 5v5 came out. At first I was super excited, even getting the golden ticket and such but 5v5 was so... different(?). I loved the 3v3 game mode and I feel completely lost when they completely shifted their focus to 5v5. A main selling point for me was the free skins. Even though i played a lot and grinded for a lot of skins, I still paid around 1k for all the new and super cool skin, mainly all the Celeste skins cuz I maimed Celeste. But I understand that they screwed up by making everything so easily farmed. I quit officially when they changed the UI. The new UI is super clunky and doesn’t have the essence that represented Vainglory. It felt off and it doesn’t help that this was when 5v5 was becoming more and more prominent instead of 3v3. It was a good run, I’ll never forget the ardent ult “mistake” and when Celeste kestrel was the best duo carry!

@@RushyJam the balance shifted to primarily 5v5, which causes 3v3 to be really imbalanced and not fun. They also removed 3v3 casual. 3v3 had basically no update. For me in particular, i really did not like the 5v5 gameplay. The 3v3 gameplay was what made the game unique and fun. The 5v5 gamemode was only made cuz they wanted to attrach Moible Legend's players so it felt really uninspired and broke 3v3 balance.

I’m no longer super invested into Vainglory, but I remember when it used to be such a big part of my life. I remember the esports and how hype and how great it was but now that I’m hearing that it’s going through a tough time and that it might even be closing it just kinda hurts inside. I can’t say that I’ve even played recently but I love this game so much and it’s just sad that it’s going to end

I just can’t believe there’s none giant successful company that would take Vainglory on they own. I mean game is awesome! Graphics, controls, complex, it’s so cool and so so good. Bigger company can make crazy good things with game like this..

Losing VainGlory it´s just awful. I am one the Brasilian/South America fans and playing the game, learn about it, be part of the community and even watch the championship was never an easy thing for me (language Ya Know). But that made this game such an especial part of life, ´cause the game was just PERFECT (once I played it, I just couldn´t play the "Tradicional Joystick´s MOBA"s no more). So I guess this is a goodbye. At least a had the chance of getting to excoundrel, that is an amazing creator! Cheers from BR! huge fan... (I´m sorry for any mistakes, still learning english)

I played vainglory on my samsung galaxy s4 , thats a pretty small screen and I never had any problems! Man I spent so much money for skins ! Sure I did use the card system but when there was a cool skin I wanted I just bought it ! Sad to see Vainglory go , it will always be a part of my life!

Ok so this is a serious situation for all of us VG players who spent our time in this game since the beginning. I really agree with all of what you said Excoundrel you really make sense. It's sad to see what the game had end up to and you mentioned about how they wanted to make profit so they added talents, hats etc, let's not forget that they added battle pass for one patch and then removed it completely which made sense why they did that after what u said. On 19:57 when u said "Vainglory in a way has actually died now" I had goosebumps and felt sad , that's so true it won't be the same anymore, it is really ending. Anyways please update us for more information regarding VG if you have something ofc. Btw I really enjoyed your VG contents for the past years, when u explained every patches and made gameplay videos, you are one of my fav VG content creators. Thank you so much and farewell VG !

Gxld_ depends, those same fanbase came from LoL, and Wild Rift is coming out soon. With Wild Rift coming, it’s not a good environment to invest into MOBAs atm. Maybe next year would be good.

If that was the case with the skin system, I wish SEMC would’ve just said “Hey our bad we need to monetize this or the game will die.” Would’ve helped us accept the change. Given the lack of communication, it just felt arbitrary and even a little hostile, but pretty sure if they’d be more transparent we all could’ve gotten behind them. Although at that point seems like that could’ve hurt the brand so yeah IDK tough situation. Thanks for the great video though. Hope SEMC knows they have a dedicated fan base that wants this game to have a future!

I still play Vainglory on my small Pixel 3 with the OG tap controls. Tried the joysticks but just can't. Still love VG. Still play it. Just wish they took off like they deserved.

For all that queue times, they should have implemented a couple of ads here and there for income. They could have still kept the battlepass tool. They never asked for donations or help. They were not honest about not making ads for the game. They should have ran the e-sports a bit better. Like so many things could have been done to build a profit but none were used. Now its too late and the game I have been playing for the last 4 years is literally dying. Its unfortunate. SEMC working on spellfire for the last two years and whatever that is (probably some crap game) will flank i promise you. They should have sticked to VG and done rework on their income value. It would have paid off after sometime... Sad day indeed!

Not to mention the ingame effects are average at best, no recall animations of the characters and very little effects

as what i have said on HellsDevil video SEMC didnt make enough profit and all the money it had from the beginning was wasted on funding esports team instead of advertising the shit out of it just like what other mobile mobas did(mobile legends, kings of valor , etc), tho as you pointed out SEMC wasnt generating enough profit to bet millions of $$$ to making these ads and for me personally 5v5 didnt came out fast enough to grab people from the mobile market to play the game because they were already enticed by other mobile moba with a 5v5 mode already and has a joystick control, i even wonder if people playing were even actually buying ice on a constant bases bec of how f2p friendly it is to get legendary skins unlike other mobile games where you have to use real $$$ to buy a specific heroes skin even on the lowest rarity

Very sad that this is happening, I don't think any other MOBAs compare to this. I just downloaded Onmyoji Arena yesterday since I wanted to see what else compares and it was one of the names I saw on top MOBAs when I searched on KZread. Played a few casual matches and it doesn't even compare to Vainglory. This game is too good to let it go like this and needs to be saved by us or somebody. Spread the word and give this comment a thumbs up so it can be seen.

And there are reasons why Vainglory isn't as successful, one of them is I just don't think many people know about the game. Also like you said, it might not be that begginer friendly

RIP Vainglory. It was the first MOBA I ever played (before even LOL); and so Vainglory will always have a special place in my heart. - - - That said: I am a Mobile Legends player; and I absolutely love it a lot! In my personal opinion, Mobile Legends will never be “trash” - But that just goes to show that “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure,” right? xD Though I also completely agree that trying to migrate users to a completely new, and different game (say, from Mobile Legends to Vainglory) is a VERY hard thing to do. It’s hard to override someone’s time, energy, and emotions that they’ve invested into a game, ESPECIALLY if it’s one they’ve grown to love. At some point, that player will end up feeling like “oh, this game is just a cheap imitation of [insert previous game here],” and when people come at it from that angle it will NEVER be good enough to convince them otherwise. Once people have formed an opinion, it is nearly impossible to convince them otherwise. Their own opinion CAN change, but that will only happen if they allow it to. And most people just aren’t that open to reform, myself included. - - - I hope that Vainglory can make a comeback. I know there are some really amazing creators out there that could use this opportunity as an advantage. And I want to see that. It’s bittersweet. I will forever miss the original Vainglory; but I am also doing my best to look forward with hope. And maybe (like a Phoenix), something grand will emerge from these ashes. I want to believe it will.

I honestly think removing the battlepass and 3v3 casual was the start to the end of the game. Nearly everyone i knew had battlepass

Even tho I haven't played VG for a long time, I have never deleted it on my phone and ipad. Hearing that this game is dead really breaks my heart. RIP to the best mobile moba ever created 💔

I was an OG player, when the selection was just a handful of heroes and people still played 3v3. then they removed casual 3v3, and focused entirely on th 5v5 concept, and that just alienated the old base according to me, since most of us didn't need another 5v5, the whole 3v3 mechanic had its own unique pros and cons. I may not know a whole lot, since I kinda dropped playing it, but sadly killing 3v3 was according to me a bad move. The game which had been easily accessible before and had invited lots of new players, just spiralled into the competitive only MOBA with a high learning curve. I remember it being easy to teach 3v3 to my little cousin, but 5v5 was such a clusterf* that it stopped being even fun. That's my opinion though, please read with a healthy serving of salt.

This is the end of Vainglory, but hopefully a new game will be born out of it like Dota or LoL

At first, i didnt really understand what vainglory community edition is, but after listening to ur explanination made me realize that vainglory is basically dying like its the end of the game now. I mean its never gonna be the same again because the server will be runned individually.

I am now on a quest to find the reset button of 2020. so many sad events and now this.. My heart is broken. ... but I am still alive, Vainglory can still live. I believe that this will be the point where Vainglory will once again transcend everything. I am very sad with news but I am very optimistic that things will turn out for the best. And yeah! I wouldn't mind if they made the skins (mostly) cash items, especially if the design is awesome. Till then, I'll see what happens next and I will try my best to support it again once they return. P.S Nice video! I know you are not part of SEMC, but you are still a part of Vainglory. And this video will definitely be a beacon of hope for this game.

Pls those who have much talents, it's your time to shine! Save Vainglory!

Games like Ragnarok have managed to thrive on private servers even now. I hope the same can be seen with Vainglory

@@FfblastBlogspot Cuz offline is not the same, the whole community thing gets lost there. That's what keeps VG going right now. Apart from that, making a campaign that's worth your time is a lot of effort, effort they can't put into the game or else they wouldn't have chosen this path. Also it's not as simple as "let's just add a good AI", that takes a lot of time and effort as well. There's a reason why the VG AI is so bad, a better one would have cost

I was employee #4-#5? (don't remember exactly..) I cannot speak for SEMC, however Kindred/VG was a labor of love for the founding team. I have not been paying attention since leaving, thanks for the video. Nivmett is a talented guy, I hope he is able to do what he wants to.

This game wasn’t touching at first, but it grew on me and I really love it.....I first started playing before heroes like scarf were introduced....ah the good old times, I loved the controls, even though I had a mini-tablet to play with, I eventually mastered a bunch of heroes (mainly scarf, Krul, and idris). It seemed like the game was dying after heroes like idris were introduced, after Loriel ,I really felt like the game was dying.....that’s why I stopped playing, I will never forget my times with this game, and it will always have a place in my heart for giving me confidence in my skills.

Been playing VG since 2015, sad seeing such an amazing game go down hill over the years, I'll continue to play. If the time comes where VG is no more, can anyone tell me if there is another mobile moba with touch controls. Its already a fact that no other mobile moba will come close to the quality of graphics as VG, just looking for something else with touch controls as a back up Please any help would be appreciated, thank you

Yeah, they should let the skins be tried out like in ML. Not to give out for free, but to have people try out the skins for about 1 - 7 days and the players can have the option to buy it at the end of the trial on discounted price, or they'll loose the trial and they have to pay full price on the skin.

You can play any skin in practise. Also if you buy full access pass, you unlock all heroes for a whole month

Ive started playing a few months before rona came out and i remember grinding for those cards and reading the descriptions and appreciating the art on the cards, and everybody stocking up on those healing flasks XD and getting the contract item as first item

Dammm this still hurts today. It’s downloadable but nothing is there... I was gonna come back for some OG memories, but I guess not. Anyone else remember the days when there were only 9 heroes? Or was it 6? Then taka came in. Or when Krull was OP as fuck. I remember the day black feather came out, Phinn, and Arden. Black feather will always have a special place in my heart along with Arden. I was one of the best Black Feather players in NA east.... ah the days. I even wrote a school essay on Arden, Vox and Celeste. Or when Vox was absolutely insane and the after shock worked on his first ability. Ahhh the days, Vainglory will forever have a special place in my heart.

Man, going to miss my guild 🥺 Ranged from a large age group from teens to even 40 years old. Had such a diverse culture in the guild, it was amazing.

OG player here. ( Npro2000 EU). Yeah i loved the game, only got separated from it since the issue with Huawei phones appeared. How ever i need say yes the crafting mistake was huge, it was fun for me to grind 6-8 hours a day back in school, and a major point in playing the game. However i unlocked nearly 150 skins without paying a dime really, even LE and SE skins. I sometimes buyed chest but only in huge sales that i knew come, since i was seasoned, ( easter, christmas, Valentine's, so on). They should have done it different looking at it now. Also the point you mentioned about phones excoundrel, yeah it was huge for me to learn new heroes, it was basically having a different control sceme for every Role, and in the long run my Hands took a toll. With pains sometimes stopping me from play. Now iam doing exercises, to prevent the same from happening ever again, well we all learn new stuff for life.... The game had a great run with some issues down the road, in 2017 being so great, so its really sad to see the game ending like this, and those crap games rise in the stores. But there is a decline in Mobas all around i feel like, since people get bored of the same thing 10 years later. Also the new ip VG allstars seems like a great way to make money, however they need to battle with one of the biggest companies, if something amazing and unique does not happen, i cant see it take off.sadly. However iam still looking forward to spellfire, whatever it should be. So hey one last time, lets take a walk down the memory lane, play some VG and well move on since we all know nothing is eternal, even if they are saying so. It will remain as a small community eg Hots. But will never be the same. So people enjoy your time, i wish you the best, and wish VG the best. ..

I think the biggest mistake SEMC made is when they removed the gold pass and the silver pass from the game I was buying every gold pass they ever add and I had a lot of players as well in my friends list buying that if they made it every 2months a new gold pass I think they would got a lot of money of it. And more players being active to get the last rewards form the pass

Yes... I'm so bored when they changed the way to get a skin. I remember that when I started playing it, I can get again by saved glory to unlock. But no longer for it... I'm a bit sad.

Been playing since it was released and revealed at the iPhone 6 reveal. I remember playing pedal on my dads iPhone 6 Plus and being so jealous of how big his screen was. Playing on my hour long bus rides with my cousins. So many memories.

I've played this game the moment it was launched. I remembered getting tendonitis because I playing way too much of it. Joining guilds and ranking together via discord, eventually getting vainglorious in 3v3, getting hyped over 5v5, and playing the 5v5. One of the issues I've had with VG was it's connection issues that arose when 5v5 was released- I had a full bar WiFi and it still lags nevertheless, which resulted in me deleting the game and moving to lesser tier moba ML, which I do enjoy. But vainglory will always have a special place in my heart.

I have a question, is this reversible in any way? Is there any chance, even if slight, that when SEMC is done with spellfire, will come back to vainglory again? Or is it going to be like that forver?

Tomy Ferdiansyah you played no life mode #2 they barely have any heroes which means they dont have skins, and the new heroes they do release get stuck @ rare skin phase

I remember playing Vainglory when Taka’s perk still had lifesteal and Crystal Vox was a thing. I really love Vainglory but I don’t if I will ever come back unless there is an amazing and balanced community server

quite sad to hear this news and all those fuzz questions on my head was answered, hoping VG will have it's own comeback.

Actually when they made the game 5v5 I switched from AOV and MLBB and tried VG. The reason I stopped playing VG after like a month is that the game was too slow. Every moba takes about 10 to 15 minutes. If really long 20. But VG 5v5 took about 20 minutes easy and sometimes 30 minutes. The map was too big for a mobile moba and no one including all my friends who played it didn’t want to spend that kind of time for one match. Also for every match the waiting time was 3 minute plus. This only made everything was because every time I wanna play I had to spend 30+ minutes. Also, there was no chat function making it hard to communicate. Also, mobile mobas make it easy for the players. You can buy equipments everywhere on the map anytime. You can auto set your equipment. I’m sure hardcore fans would think that’s too elementary, but the wider player base are casual not that hardcore. VG never catered towards people’s preference, but tried to make a product that felt like a PC game. That just wasn’t for me. It’s a shame though because VG seriously was the best looking moba out of any moba out there.

Its the engine, it blows my mind when i first play it on my android phone back in 2016. Other mobile moba looks like ps1 game compared to vainglory, even until this day. Sadly SEMC mishandled VG in a lot of occassion imo. They are way too late to implement 5v5 map, when they finally catch up the other moba already snowballing in popularity. Lacks of advertisements adds fuel to the flame as well. Lore, well oh well why they cut off the lore. And then rogue comes in, they add heroes that doesnt fit in VG universe.

Same, just came back a few weeks ago. It's kinda sad now that once we got back into it, it's gonna be broken into pieces. But let's see, maybe they will force something greater out of those pieces... imagine having a well-working chat system and match history once again! And there's a lot more potential depending on how much data we get. There would be the possibility to go back to a season 0 balance patch and play THE OLD GAME! That's something I haven't seen with any other moba, I'd love to go back to beginning for once on a community server

Hey excoundrel, what if vainglory wasn't free? Maybe if they offered a short (say 2 game free version) and then had the full game cost 5-7 dollars in the app store? I don't really know the specifics or how the purchase money is split between the makers and the play/ios store, but this might have helped. What are your thoughts?

They removed everything. I was just on and there’s no more elo so why even play ranked. Everyones names are gone and they want you to pay 1300 gold for a unique permanent name. Vainglory is dead, long live vainglory. 04/03/2020 here lies the once true mobile moba.

I remember those old days where Zekent and Playoffbeard would hold dev streams and it felt like a proper community. It was something all my friends would play all day long. That would be 5 years ago, when skaarf and taka were announced and ringo would be in every free hero rotation. Sometimes I would go back to the game and play it for nostalgic reasons, but all my friends from back then, even randoms who added me after a game. No one has been online in the last 6+ months. We were all rank 9(forgot the name) / vanglorious bronze and silver. It was an amazing time, I really miss it

Another sad story... Before, Call of Champions ended up without any reason (a two-lane moba with the same tap-control scheme as Vainglory). Now, even Vainglory is having a hard time to be still on its track. I hope the devs would not lose hope. They have the community on their backs. Together we stand. Together we fall.

Started playing when Celeste was the new hero. Loved the game for a while. But quit several times because of game length. But quit for good because the game became too complex and the hero’s became too numerous for a casual to learn how to counter. I wish they had made more of an effort to keep the maps and game modes fresh and changing and not new heroes. Anyways, love your channel and keep up the good work

I’m not saying they shouldn’t have added new heroes. It just felt like that was where all of the effort was. I found 5v5 interesting because it was a new map with a new strategies to test. I wish they had added different map variations to add a little more variety. This was my first moba so maybe I had unrealistic expectations.

I play vainglory daily in the way that you're saying is awful (on my phone, held in my hands with touch controls), and I find it far superior to the few joystick mobas that I've tried. Just an alternate opinion on control scheme fwiw

So sad that once upon a time the player base was huge and there were huge tournaments and even worlds along with community tournaments. I had many memories playing this game growing up. Now I’m a league addict but I’ll never forget the good times like when CullTheMeek and VONC were names that were feared and respected. Goodbye, old friend

I don't usually spend money at all on Microtransactions, and spending money on mobile games is out of the question. But I didn't mind spending money to get stuff on Vainglory. I wanted to support the Devs and the items we get are great (which is also optional and can all be grinded, something which doesn't happen in most mobile games). I'll still be around for the community edition but I really hope it gets better. VG is one of the few mobile games I've played ever since I first installed it, till today. All the best to SEMc. Hope they do better.

Did accounts get deleted after the severs shut down? Because it’s been a long time since I’ve played , which would’ve been a little bit before 5v5 came out. I logged on today and I noticed that my account wasn’t there and instead I had a temporary account . I didn’t even have my skins from before.
