At my school you can still see a class change bell in one of the cafeterias. But now our school uses a "2 tone beep" when the passing period begins and 1 minute before the passing period ends and a long "1 tone beep" when the passing period is done over the pa as class change bells.

In 1962 I was in 1st grade. The school used the same bell for recess, lunch, fire alarms and nuclear attack drills. If it was a fire drill we were supposed to leave the building. If it was a nuclear attack drill we were supposed to go into the hallway and sit with our backs to the wall. I remember asking the teacher how we were to know what to do when the bell rang.

It sounds creepy to me

My school was built in 1976 and they still have old simplex vibrating bells and I believe they are around 4 inches big and they don't work anymore so now they have a PA system

I swear at some point in time there was a video just like this but to be funny the poster used in the video that clip from Arthur where DW’s class has a fire drill.

I suppose the gongs were for to signify to get back to class because recess is over and the horns were used for fire drills

I like fire alarms they make me happy.

Especially speaker strobes. The notifier onyx whoop tone through L series speaker strobes is my favorite.

When I was back at grade school, we had our tornado drill alarm which was like, a march time beep noise. The outside bell that rang when recess was over and when class changed would also go off the same exact time we had a tornado drill. They would both go off simultaneously.

The third bell was kinda animated.

My high school has bells but doesn't use them. Instead, an annoying, loud "*BEEEEEEP*" comes over the loud speakers and rapes our ears. I'm in ninth grade. In fourth grade, we had bells inside and outside and used them. Why not just use the bells?

My elementary school had an ear-splitting buzzer bell on the outside, and a lighter buzzer tone on the inside. In middle school, I had a continuous beep as a class change bell. And a loud buzzer on the outside of the school. Currently in high school, the bell just goes ding-dong 3 times. Inside and outside of the school.

My elementary school I went to from Kindergarten to 1st Grade they had mechanical fire alarm bells, but starting in 2nd Grade it got replaced by Gentex commander 3 Fire Alarm horn strobes. But throughout all my elementary school life, they had a speaker bell with 4 beeps in 500 hz which is a Rauland Telecenter 21.

My elementary school did not have class change bells, but for fire alarms, we had Simplex 2901-9838s on 4903-9101 strobe plates in continuous. The pull stations were Simplex 4251-20s. There’s also a Fire-Lite BG-10 in the preschool kitchen, a BG-12 in the library, and Radionics D325s in the portables. There’s also a System Sensor PA400R in the library. On the outside of the building, most of the alarms are Simplex 2901-9838s, but one of them was replaced with a 4901-9805, two were replaced with a System Sensor SpectrAlert Advance HR, and another was recently replaced with a white System Sensor low frequency sounder horn strobe. Also on the outside of the portables there’s Federal Signal 450Ds, and on the outside of the library, there’s a Wheelock AH-24. The smoke detectors are mainly Simplex 2098-9439s, although there’s System Sensor i3s in the library(replaced 2 Bosch D273s), and the heat detectors are Simplex 2098-9453s, and there’s also a First Alert residential smoke detector in the preschool kitchen

@@kretonne5K imagine how much more scared I would’ve been back in 4th grade if that fire drill that happened at 1:45 PM right after chapel(it was a private school) had all SpectrAlert Advances. I would probably have plugged my ears until we got outside the building just like what I did at my public middle and high school with Wheelock AS’ I also have autism myself but controlled my fear of fire alarms when I watched NewAgeServerAlarm and THESDX

My school still has old National Time bells all over the school.

By far, the weirdest sounding school bells I’ve ever heard are at Mesa Middle School in Arroyo Grande, CA. It sounds like a bleep that’s used when someone is cussing on TV 🤬. Unfortunately, I do not have video footage to prove it, because I was never a student at that school, in however did go to their rival, Paulding

In Canada, bells in institutional applications (schools, hospitals) are used as fire alarms. Since my school uses 10 inch Simplex bells as fire alarms, We use 4040s as class change bells. Yes, they are much lower pitch, and are FRIGGIN LOUD, to say the lest!

Tim Entwisle If I do remember correctly, the fire drills happened at either 9:15 AM or some time during second block (11:20 AM to 1:00 PM). However, we had one fire drill at 2:00 PM.
