Crazy timing for this. I just watched your tee height video from… 4 years ago? Lol Haven’t watched this one yet but looking forward to how things have changed. Always look forward to each week from you.
Matt, I’m coming back to the game of golf after a 15+ year absence. I’ve been absolutely CONSUMING your videos. Great content! Your personality is engaging and you seem like someone I’d love to play a round with. That said this video is spot on to what I was taught back in the day. You should tee up every time you can because you should never pass up the opportunity for a perfect lie. Plus it takes the grass out of play. Any time you can take variables out, you should!

GREAT CONTENT!! I've never seen a video to date by any creator that really focuses on tee height for par 3's, wedges and irons. Something that I've struggled with. Thank you for the indepth analysis and explanations.
Matt, you are always giving awesome tips ! Remembering them once on the course is the hard part.
Thanks for your video, so helpful to my technique and confidence; really appreciate your translation of principles into practice :). Really grateful
Great simple explanation. Good work.
Probably the best info and help I ever got 🤘🤘
Great vid, thanks
Years ago, I had a PGA pro tell me to always tee up on the Teebox to give yourself the best lie possible. That’s how I operate.

This was good video.....gonna help me find fairways more on narrow driving holes by teeing it up lower...
I agree! I watched a previous video from you that described suitable tee heights according to your club angle, ever since then I fixed my driver slice by teeing the ball lower! Granted I don't get a nice high ball flight as others, but at least my shots are much more consistent now. Thanks MrShortGame!

Great stuff! I think tee height is a topic that newer golfers might be a little embarrassed to ask about because it seems like something that would be so simple, but tee height can really dictate your ball flight. And, for driver, the height is something you have to experiment with to find what suits your swing.
Man I could have used this video a few days ago lol. Great info as always!
I would love to see a video on the LAB putter from you

He has one but it’s with a DF 2.1 a few years ago
Crazy part about this, 8 years ago when I decided I wanted an uncurable addiction that would cost me thousands of dollars every year, and started playing golf, information like this was very hard to find. Also Tiger said in an interview once, I always use a tee. Why would I not want the chance to improve my lie? or something. He said many things, in many interviews.
Great explanation on the right way to tee the ball up correctly! I do the same thing!
I'm about 33% above the clubface with my driver. We have people in our group that go NO tee with irons...I simply don't get it. Who doesn't want an extra 5% forgiveness? I don't know if I recall ever seeing a tour pro not use a tee on a par three...I obviously could be wrong...but I don't recall it.

Im one of those guys who doesnt use a tee for my irons. I cant explain it, but as soon as I tee up an iron i chunk the fuck out of it.
Really enjoyed the video on tee height. I am 64 and a new golfer how do you take a divot. Keep up the good work. Thanks.
You’re exactly right when I tee up my driver if I go a little bit lower than having the ball mid center, I generally hit it straighter and further. For some reason when it’s a little higher half a ball above the driver, I slice
Yes
I find this channel to be very helpful. I’m brand new to golf this summer. I struggle allot with proper tee height. Wish you were close to me. I’d gladly pay you for lessons.
I tend to tee my ball up with maybe 1/4 to 1/3 above the club head and yes I lose some distance but I know it's going straight down the fairway and that's more important for me.
I see you order the VESSEL BAMBOO TEES🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
What about Castle Tees? I use the smallest Green Castle Tee [7mm] for wedges, the Red Castle Tee [12mm] for irons. Then the Blue Castle Tee [18mm] for 7 & 3 Wood. For the Driver I mostly use the Pink Castle Tee [37mm], but at my home course there are 2 holes that have a 30 yard elevation to the fairway so I use the Orange Castle Tee [49]. Sacrificing some distance to get it on the fairway.
I alter my swing when hitting my driver off the deck, and hit the ball with a "downward blow" as Booby Jones might say. But>>>now, after seeing your video, I think my tee shot height , which was 1/2 above/lower, will go up a notch sometimes...thanks
Bonus points if you know what course the tees are from that I used in this video and the thumbnail.

They look like the ones from TPC Sawgrass
I do tee my driver very low, on a broken tee, for the13th hole that is literally 10 paces wide with a cliff-like drop off to the right and a huge hill to the left. For par 3 shots I always look for broken tees.
7:51 DOD King represents
I have had a problem with tees on par 3's for decades. Currently I just drop the ball in some fluffy part of the tee box and hit. Results are usually positive. Put a tee in the ground and my swing becomes over the top, open club face, wipes across the face of the ball and off to the right we go. Can't explain it. I have tried regular sized tees, short tees, plastic 'castle' tees, cage tees, it's nuts. Have recently changed my grip to get my bottom hand under the club more to get the 'V' pointed at my back shoulder. This has resulted in much straighter shots, so I might try using tees on par 3's again.
Gotta admit I have a steep angle of attack and hit my fairway woods great but driver is a big bag of whatever! Started teeing it very low now
my driver is from 1991, same size head das my 3 wood lol. So i like my T height for my driver pretty low. seem to get better contact when i do so. i have a calaway Big Bertha driver lol. just gettin into the game. got a hole set of clubs plus bag for 50$ all older stuff. Taylor made 3 wood. Cougar Irons and wedge. Cheapest putter i ever saw! lol
I do tee up in every tee box. For par 3's, I use a short tee and I just get it high enough to clear the turf, like you do. Sometimes the tee is almost flush with the ground. Guarantees me a good lie. For driver, I usually only go high enough for 1/4 of the ball to be above the crown of the club head.
for me with the driver i tee it up just slightly more then what you say NOT to do, and i do just fine, mind you i'm 5'4, i find that i get a lower ball flight but get more rool as i have a low spin driver. i feel way more confident with it teed up lower than higher cause when i tee it higher I sky it more often then not.
u crazy if you don't tee up your driver lol. great video!
For some reason, whenever I tee the ball on a short par 3 I do what you say. But, 85% of the time I blade it? I never do it on the fairways.... maybe just a mental thing.. It's so annoying and ticks me off so much. Any suggestions?
The only time I use a tee is for my driver. If I need to hit less than driver off the tee box, I’ll tee up my 3W, that’s it. To each their own, but I would never tee up an iron shot for a par 3.
I don't know how to hit the ground after the ball. I usually hit all ball
Matt, in over 40 years playing golf I have Never, I repeat Never seen anybody tee off with their driver off thee ground. Otherwise great tips as usual.
Yeah, I am a tee it up guy on Par 3’s. Why wouldn’t you want to have the best possible lie?
Played a round recently and the group in front of me were teeing up their second shots. I’m not sure why. 🤷🏻♂️
7 iron through wedge I don’t tee up most of the time. The whole reason is because I feel like I hit down and compress the ball better when I hit it off of the turf. When you’re playing on bent grass especially the ball is going to be sitting up perfectly if you find good spot. I just feel like it has more variability to involve a tee in some cases

TEE box or not I’m a player with same swing motion and it’s working well for me so at 75 y/o I’m accepting my reality pretty well.
I can help you with your pivot.
Jack said you only have 18 times a round to have a perfect lie.....use a tee.
I have a mental block about teeing up my 3 and 5 woods. I will make the little preferred lie where you bunch the grass up.
When I tee up my wedges and irons, I look for discarded, broken tees. Why pay for a perfectly good tee when all you need is the top part sticking out of the ground. A tee that got broke in half will do just as good.
Fitter told me half the ball should above the top scoring line of driver
Always take advantage of a tee when you can.
Would you tee hybrids.

Yes, same as long irons
Matt, appreciate the video. I have an extra set of Cobra 3D irons for sale, 4-pw, KBS tour lite regular steel shafts, Lamkin stock grip, If you know anyone of if anyone reading this is interested, please let me know. Located in AZ, thanks.
...and pretty much dead straight every time? Nicely done.
I think tour pros don't tee up their driver consistently enough... Looks like they just go on feel
And it’s called a tee box for a reason. Lol
There’s maybe 3…or 2….theres 1 guy that does this lol
I use basically the height you show but I feel like I overdraw the ball when I tee it up for an iron shot so I tend to not use a tee when I hit irons. Dont know if its just a mental thing or not.
Hello MSG, liked the video 🙂 see if you can find any clips of the lady golfer “Laura Davies” and see how she tees a ball up on the tee box and hopefully you’ll be impressed, she was phenomenally talented and massive distance from her driver and a lovely lady as well 🙂👍
Do you shave your legs?
If you don't use a tee for your driver you can't hit driver dude is a weasel
Taking divit makes no sense if you already hit the ball why does it matter if you rip up the corse. Your not compressing into the ground. Not all golfers take divits

Divot would show a downward strike on the ball, also if you're too steep, and club path direction
