Knowing the difference between analogue and digital stage boxes is just the first part. When you’re going to go digital you need to know a bit more to make sure you make an informed decision.
In this video, you’ll learn about the different ways that different digital stage boxes and mixers communicate as well as some of the easiest ways to find the digital stage box and mixer combination that will work in your case.

Thank you Andrew,. This is exactly the video I've been looking for. Incredibly clear discussion of connection issues. I'm subbed for life 😀🤟

@@OffshoreAudio Hi Andrew. My biggest question is all about latency. How do the various standards complete in terms of round-trip latency? Edit: I'm looking for lowest latency with a a tiny network, basically point to point.

@@DeathByHumbuckers off the top of my head aes50 has the lowest latency of the common digital protocols. The mixer that you're using would affect a return trip though. I could have a look into it and do a shootout between aes50, Dante and giga ace. Dave Rat did an experiment where he had around 0.1ms latency on aes50. He might have other useful stuff looking at latency: kzread.info/dash/bejne/moeNuqOPXdXWf8o.html

Missed one very important point, or two. 1 The Midas and Behringer consoles have a card slot for I/O. Cards are available for supporting other protocols such as Dante. With the card, and a Yamaha Dante stage box, now they connect. Maybe.. Next is system clock speed. All components must support the same speeds to have them sync. Midas and Behringer use either 44.1 KHZ or 48 KHX. Not sure what speed the Yamaha uses. Allan and Heath operate on 96 KHZ so it would not be compatible, even if the protocol was correct.

You can, any number above 5e, so cat5 won't work but cat6 and 7 will. Aim for STP cable, shielded twisted pair, preferably with ethercon connectors

You should probably use an shielded, and bonded ethercon connector on your connections as it is IN THE SPEC... you could blow our AES-50 ports with ESD.
