What Should I Tell My Future Spouse About My Past? | Shaykh Waleed Basyouni | Faith IQ

Being open and honest is a crucial aspect when dealing with a future spouse. What must a person share with their future spouse about their past? What if it was a sin that the person committed in the past?
When it comes to past sins that are no longer committed, there are certain sins that will affect the marriage, such as committing zina, or sins that come with consequences, that must be talked about. Other than that, you do not need to tell the person about sins that will not have an effect on the marriage, and one should not be asked about it.
Shaykh Waleed Basyouni answers in detail.
FaithIQ is a video library of answers to everyday, contemporary Islamic questions. You can browse the most commonly asked (research-based) questions to get straight-to-the-point answers directly from qualified scholars and teachers.

Why not ask about haram relationship? That can affect the marriage if certain repercussions such as images or videos get leaked that can destroy the image of the family. This can be bad for the other spouses mental health

We can't speak about our sins. It's totally haram. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Everyone from my nation will be forgiven except those who sin in public. Among them is a man who commits an evil deed in the night that Allah has hidden for him, then in the morning he says: O people, I have committed this sin! His Lord had hidden it during the night but in the morning he reveals what Allah has hidden.” Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5721, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2990

If Allah forgive, then you can't say nothing. You will love your spouse as she is, respect her, isn't ur business her past. She also wouldn't ask u questions about ur past.

Freaking. Women loosing virginity should be spoken. Men who has committed Zina before shud kept close. Why? (in my opinion it hurts me 10000 times when my spouse has already engaged in such stuff)

Men can have 4 wives, will he tell every wife when he was intercourse with the other. No, because it will hurt. Woman on the other hand should, they should only love one man and if they engage in Zina in the past, it will affect them when they engage in intimacy with another man in the future. Therefore, it is best for the man to know because you don't want it to get to the point where they have trauma in bed and it's affecting the marriage. Sisters just basically need to stay away from Zina before marriage. And if they marry someone else other than the man they committed Zina with, then I feel sorry for that man because he has not been given a pure wife.

@@multipolarworld2484It's not only that, how does the wife keep that hidden from him for her entire life. It will cause mental struggle and difficulty in the marriage for her. Knowing another guy has had her in the past. That's why it's best the woman should say if she has committed Zina or not in the past, so that the husband can make a judgement whether he will still marry her or not. If he says no, then you have to respect his decision because he wants a pure wife like most Muslim men do. If he says yes, then be grateful you found a man who will not judge you for your past and go ahead with the marriage. End of the day, sisters need to stay away from Zina, men aswell, but then sin can be concealed due to our nature of being able to love more than one woman in the first place. Allah has created sisters in a way such that they can only love one man at a time which can cause further distress if the relationship (halal or haram) was to end in the future. And it can then cause even more distress when they persue another relationship. That's why it's best that the sister acknowledges this, acknowledges this stain on her purity, and tells her future husband.

The situation is that someone who has committed fornication cannot hide and cannot tell the truth. If someone tell then there will not peace, love and respect for both and if not tell then other one will live in deception.

@@mohammedabdurrahman4795 That's not even islam akhi. Judging and removing what Allah have forgiven is just haram. Our prophet's first love was Khadija, she was married before but our prophet didn't care about that, he loved her soul. And you think are better than him? You prefer vaginas instead of souls instead of a woman's real value. Also, as I said in the comment, virginity has no sense since many women still virgin even after they give birth. Many of them, their body return to the original status. It's called biology of the anatomy. Abu Huraira (RadhiAllahu ‘anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu ‘alaihi wasallam) said: whoever says: سُبْحَانَ اللهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ `Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi (Glorified is Allah and praised is He), one hundred times a day, his sins will be forgiven even if they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean.”

Here is the truth ; surah noor (24:3) Let the fornicator not marry any except a fornicatress or idolatress and let the fornicatress not marry any except a fornicator or an idolater. That is forbidden to the believers. Surah noor (24:26) Corrupt women are for corrupt men, and corrupt men for corrupt women. Good women are for good men, and good men for good women. They are innocent of the calumnies people utter. There shall be forgiveness for them and a generous provision. Be careful brothers and sisters. So Muslim marriage should be based on secrets and deceptions? 2:33 "it's allowed for you to lie about it or to say it in a way that it will not tell the full truth if you think it will cause a damage." I can see that Muslim marriages are built on very "strong" foundations.

Ah ok so you are Allah now and know better than Him? Great I have some questions then Allah. How about just listen to the Quran and Sunna and stop being an emotional bitch. The Quran is there for the good of society and yourself so if it states that then you can be sure its going to be alrigth. If you think the quran or sunna are explained wrongly then you can go debate that but dont come here with weak atheist opinions because of your emotions.
