➤➤Transcript (Partial):
First acted out, then represented in ritual-those would be the rituals of sacrifice-then laid out in the story, then turned into a psychological phenomena, so that, now, we’re capable of making sacrifices in abstraction, to conceptualize a future that we want, to let go of the things that are stopping us from moving forward, and to free ourselves from the chains of our original preconceptions. That’s laid out in these old stories, as the optimal pathway of being.
There’s a philosopher of science named Karl Popper-a very sensible and down-to-earth person, who was talking about thinking, and its nature. He thought about thinking in a Darwinian fashion. He said that the purpose of thinking is to let your thoughts die instead of you. It’s a brilliant notion: You can conjure up a representation of yourself. You can conjure up a variety of potential representations of yourself, in the future. You can lay out how those future representations of yourself are likely to prevail or fail. You can cull the potential yous in the future that will fail, and then you can embody the ones that will succeed. You do that while, simultaneously, conjuring up a representation of your current state, and determining for yourself-because of your undo suffering-which elements of your pathetic being need to be given up, so that you can move forward into that future. What is it that you’re aiming at, with that work, and with that sacrifice? That’s the ultimate question. That’s the question I was trying to address, in that writing. What is it that you’re trying to do? You’re trying to improve the future. You believe that the future can be improved. You believe that it can be improved as a consequence of our sacrificial work. So, once again, what are the necessary limits to that? I would say that we don’t know. I would say, as well, that that’s actually something that the entire corpus of Biblical stories is desperately trying to figure out and articulate. We conjured up this remarkable idea: The future exists. We can see it, even though it’s only potential. We can adjust our behaviour, in the present, in order to maximize our probability of success in the future. How best to do that? Well, the idea is something like, don’t hesitate to offer the ultimate sacrifice, if you want the future to turn out ultimately well. Now, obviously, that idea is clothed in metaphysical speculation and religious imagery. But it still remains an intensely practical issue. What is it that you could contract for, let’s say, if you were willing to give up everything about you that’s weak and unworthy?

Don’t completely sacrifice yourself. What the point? What is the point of being fake? If all you have is yourself then you better like yourself, right? You’re fluid and you change but to sacrifice everything defeats this whole point of being alive.

No ITS about the sacrifice in the present that need to be made in Order to become that *whatever U wanna call it* in the Future...when ur life is absolute miserable U might need to sacrifice almost anything about you because that brought U there in the first place

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson So let’s get this straight you made yourself miserable so now you have to sacrifice yourself to try to be less miserable and also so you can be more yourself in the future or whatever you call it. Anyway, I’m taking about someone sacrificing their morals and soul. Also, people will just sacrifice themselves without ever asking why and then they will just throw their life away, based on an empty idea of how life should be, it’s moronic. Some people just shouldn’t have kids or stay at the same job. Living a life without risks is moronic and just spread the idea of people being miserable morons. Don’t try to be yourself and listening to everyone else your entire life and it will just lead to your downfall. People always try to shelter you and tell you to play it safe when it makes you into a cardboard cutout of a human being that finally learns that life isn’t that scary and you don’t have to be that miserable anymore, if you listen to yourself first. If your parents tell you they never want you to leave you better get the hell out because they’re not actually thinking on your behalf.

It all depends on what you make sacrifices for. If you make sacrifices for monetary gain you will get just that, which is part of the corrupt worldly system. But if you make sacrifices for the betterment of others and all, that is where true gains begin.

Hang in there man, you’re in the pocket. You’re right in the pocket you already have 100 fuckin thousand subs! That’s insane! I know it’s difficult for you to monetize the channel due to its nature, however once you hit 200k or 300k you can think of creative merchandise that has to do with Jordan’s phrases/theme. Those will sell! No one is selling amazing Jordan Peterson merch and it’s not like he’s gonna sue you. You can also create your own product and market it on your own channel in the pinned top comment on every video! You can also do affiliate marketing in your description because you get really consistent big views! You can also eventually do a shoutout for brand products for 15-30 seconds at the end of your videos! The viewers won’t mind that much! Once you start monetizing your channel you will be a lot more motivated to keep going! You need to pay yourself for all this work if not you will burn out inevitably. Although we don’t know you, or your name, you provide us with emotions that connect us to your channel! We will support you! I don’t know if you even need to hear this, but I’m on a great high right now, I’m back in the game! I have been stuck and been in the dump of doubt, and if that’s where you are right now then I’m here to tell you to keep going! Be proud of yourself you are a REAL channel with 100,000 subscribers! Celebrate! And hell! Give yourself some time off if that’s what you’re doing! Maybe my message is pointless but I just think you deserve to pay yourself and i can’t tell if you’re burning out or not so just know that you are worth it! You have already fought the dragon, now reap the gold! You eventually have to let yourself reap the gold! If you ever need help with money avenues just message me I’ll provide you a some ideas I have researched it through and through P.S. if you didn’t need my rant feel free to delete it or ignore it! Only here to heal the person who is sacrificing for the good of everyone else, and only if he needs me 🤝

Love this clip. However, Peterson is speaking about something intellectual. Emotion is the antithesis of this. The background music is beautiful, but for this piece, it does nothing but detract from the message.
