Great info. everyone is different but everyone needs to find their number(s). For us 1.3 million was the finish line. We have crossed it and then some so finishing up my final months at work and getting out in our 50s. Heck, when I turn on my SS at 64-65- a little early- it will more than cover all our household expenses and local entertainment. The only thing we will need to pull on investments for is big travel or repairs, etc. Should be easy street and that's not counting my wifes SS. We will not need to touch investments with 2 SS coming in. Your property taxes sounded insane. We pay 1600 a year.

A million ££ in England will generate say £40,000 in drawdown pretax income a year (dividends income). This produces an ok lifestyle if you own your own home so no accommodation costs. Anything over £45,000 and you’re moving from 20% tax to 40%! So as soon as you get state pension SP at 66 which is £11,000 then drawdown needs to go from to £30,000 to avoid 40% tax…. but inflation means you actually need to draw down more…. It’s a conundrum. Then add in any occupational pensions….and tax management becomes a big issue.

Your happy dance made me laugh. Thank you both for providing perspective. No, most of us don't need a million dollars in savings to retire comfortably. Becoming ex-pats is certainly a big move but for many, including me, it may just be the thing I need to not outlive my savings. Cost of living in the U.S. is out of control and I don't see anything changing anytime soon. Thanks again.

Enjoy your videos. Thanks for your efforts. My adult son and I have about $20,000 in a Portugese bank account, and have been told we need about $10,000 more for the two of us. I think we have plenty and can't find out for sure. We can't wait to get there! Anyone have any comments or advise about how much $ we need tohave in the bank to get out there? :)

Olá! Thanks for watching and sharing. Come join us at www.patreon.com/itllbefun The number you need will depend on what VISA you are applying for. For example: A traditional D7 retirement VISA would mean a minimum of one year the minimum wage is held in the account per person. There are minimum passive income requirements as well. A family reunifixation VISA may also be used for one of you. There are lots of options. You may want to work with an immigration lawyer. Our immigration lawyer can be contacted sandra.jfernandes@sjf.pt Have a wonderful day!

  • @Fell214

Guaranteed public pension and SS is still a viable combination. At 62, we have a gross fixed income of $150k per year from these two sources (both COLA-adjusted)…not including investments. Most of our friends have similar situations. Retirement abroad with this income is even better.

Yes. That will work, however you should understand that many people (less than 6% of working age population in the USA) do not have pensions these days and need to work with their savings and investments. But if you have a pension then life is good.
