Yes, marriages had to be consummated in order to be official. Without consummation there was grounds for an marriage annulment. The practice of a “bedding ceremony” used to help to ensure this as there would be witnesses. The Queen mentioned that she went through this on her wedding night but that standards has since changed

They did such a good job at unraveling this story and switching it up…I mean, we all knew something is wrong with George, but I was still so annoyed the first 3 episodes…but then, when they let us in - it is so heartbreaking. The Venus - p***is jokes feel like dark humor 😭

I love the relationship between Lady and Lord Danbury. Yes, he's an awful man, but she is still able to feel empathy for him when he faces racism. Yeah, he doesn't deserve that huge mansion, but it's still a huge achievement for the black community in general. Lady Danbury understands this whole thing is way bigger than her husband.

I didn't love their relationship but I loved her. Even though Lord Danbury was a very selfish man in every way, she still fulfilled her "duty" as his wife to the best of her ability while still somehow not totally losing herself. She made him better in every way.

Any unskilled person would make her just completely HATE HIM and laugh at his face when he suffered racism and things like that. Shonda was smart enough to understand that it's way more complex than that.

This show is so good. I was so invested in Queen Charlotte's story but especially King George's. In the beginning, he just seems so mysterious you don't know how to feel about him. I can't wait for the next episode.

When y’all get to episode 4 you’ll see George in a different light, maybe. Considering Charlotte was only 17 is quite impressive how she’s handled herself and the situation thus far.

I always enjoy your reactions, but my favorite part is the way your banter is edited so that we see a close-up of Bryce’s reaction to Zuff’s random observations!

Dowager Princess was never the Queen. She was Princess of Wales due to her marriage with Prince Frederick of Wales, George’s father. Frederick died before he ascended the throne so it went to George

I had a prediction going into this show that it would break my heart. Mostly based on how the Queen and King are so distant and struggling in Bridgerton due to his illness and her trying to cope with that while trying to appear strong in front of others. But even in Bridgerton you can tell she is struggling a lot and always sort of mentally preparing for news of his death since she's always asking if he died yet. Having their love story is so bittersweet because you know there's no happily ever after, but even when he's elderly and sick he looks at her with such love and calls her Lottie so affectionately. I always found him so sweet in Bridgerton since he's so in love with her despite not being lucid. Queen Charlotte does a good job so far of being a prequel. I remember being so frustrated with King George for staying away and being so cold even when it seemed kind of obvious that he's struggling with something. I had thought it was some kind of dymentia too. I didn't even think of his illness being the cause of him staying away.

Some people need to understand that they're only on episode 2. Let them enjoy discovering everything the same way ya'll have. Stop spoiling things in the comments and just be patient for them to get to understand whats going on jeez

Spoiling? You know most of this is based on the lives of the real George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz? The stories of their children and their children's children are already known. Hardly spoiling after +200 years

I am no psychiatrist but have been getting help for many years and have friends of varying mental health issues. He strikes me as having bio-schizo effective disorder. Which is a little mix of bipolar and schizophrenia, can result in dementia on top of that later in life due to your brain losing gray matter overtime without medications to slow that process. He fits the requirements of symptoms, including the extreme panic attacks, but of course there is no way to diagnose that back then so it is just under the blanket of “going mad”.

I saw your reaction to the first episode and immediately binge watched the whole thing so I could watch you react to the rest! I liked it a lot, I think you will too. Also realized Brimsley was gay as soon as they started talking in Reynold's bedroom, I was so glad! Enjoy the rest of the show!

Unfortunately Lady Danbury, like all women in England at the time, couldn't hold titles, land, or wealth without a man. She didn't excist legally, outside her connection to men. Its called the laws of Coverture, look it up it you want to understand women better. They're the same basis for law in regards to women and children in the United States and other places.

He is sick in the future, so sick that the queen herself asks every time if he's dead. In season 1, he thinks his daughter is alive when she's been dead for a while; in season 2, he comes to Charlotte thinking it's their wedding day, when it's been years and years since. His mother isn't evil for making decisions for him, and he isn't evil for trying to make his wife stay away from him.
