The spirit is genuine, my great uncles played in the big bands of the 30s and 40s. My great uncle John who passed away a few years ago at the age of 92 played trombone. Big Band music is an interesting thing, it can inspire and draw people onto the floor... To continue the interest in it with young and the young at heart. Most big bands formed today could use a clarinet and a driving rhythm section. Goodman in '35-'38 had the sound to strive for! :-)

For the critics... As a community group, skill levels varied widely in this group. Many of the serious musicians in the band recognized and agreed with the criticism in the comments. Let's just say that the leader of the band at the time was more interested in business than improving the music. After much drama, many of the skilled members left to form their own big band. I speak as an insider, serving as a substitute for this band some years ago.

I Think you Guys Are Doing a Very Very Good Job :) I Like your Singer :) he sounds like a combination of Frank Sanatra and Tom Jones :) He Does a Great Job :) My Suggestion, would be to throw away the sheet music, and play the music from the Heart and Soul have the musicians add any insperation at any time to the music, and have them stand up any time they want to, also, have the musicians swing their instruments from side to side from time to time, Really get into the music is what I am basicly saying, IMHO that would make your Band, World Class.

the effort is here! and some of you are bashing the criticism, but some of it is true! Rhythm section, get tight! Same to the winds and trumpets, please work on blending and becoming a solid cohesive unit. Most of this sounds awesome, but there are just some parts that seem to loosen up a little bit too much IMHO. Keep swinging!

I love the selections -- music from the big band era are the best! However, this band does need to concentrate on playing in tune. I also agree with Joe about blending and the rhythm section. Work as one solid unit, not separate sections. Good sounds -- keep the music going!

You feel right, their performance isn't perfect. They obviously aren't professional full time musicians.and the problem is lack of mechanical abilities to control the instruments, not too mechanical playing. But I appreciate their love for the kind when music was a real art. The arrangements are slighly altered and that's not good. They should stick to the originals and not try to change. It is history, should be respected. Shame for the american istitutions, they don't care, don't public.

Out of curiosity I clicked on this video. Good instruments, nice set, good arrangements, but no swing at all. Musicians stall. Obviously musicians are no pros, but they do play their notes in tune. Therefore who is to blame? The musical director. He should practice with the band till he gets it. Or maybe the director does not have a feel for this toe music. Being an amateur DOES NOT excuse the lack of swing. They sound like a High School Band and IT CAN be fixed

What's up is right! Some of the tempos are agonizingly slow. The drummer has no push at all. Band sounds like it needs a blood transfusion. Needs lots of rehearsing to tighten things up and it's probably best to replace at least half the band with people who can play in tune. Sounds like the worst high school i ever heard. Sorry but I've been in the business over 50 years and have led a successful big band in NY for a long time. Lots of loose ends to tighten up.
