What's under this reservoir? Let's find out!

Фильм және анимация

Join me as I explore the desert-like landscape left behind at Baitings Reservoir in West Yorkshire, UK after weeks of hot weather and drought conditions have dried up the majority of the water.
We get a rare glimpse of the remains of the ancient hamlet/village of Baitings and it's perfectly preserved packhorse bridge that was flooded in the 1950s when the reservoir and dam construction was complete.
Filmed on 15/08/2022 using a GoPro Hero 10 and a DJI Mini 3 Pro

Some amazing shots there, brilliant. (Nice music too.) I guess it's a good opportunity for the authorities to carry out inspection work on the dam too.

Thankyou, I'm glad you liked it! Yes there's certainly a lot of activity from Yorkshire water there at the moment. I didn't get too close the other night as I didn't want to bother anyone with the drone but I'm pretty sure they had divers down inspecting the Dam wall when I was there. In any case hopefully it will fill back up sooner rather than later as that is a LOT of missing cups of coffee/tea :)

Thankyou very much :) If you ever do make it to the UK and we meet up I'll show you some of these places, it would make for a great walking video when it's not empty!!

Cheers dude. Yeah it's ridiculous how much water has just "disappeared" from the reservoir. Hopefully we'll get it back so people can get back to their Yorkshire tea and frivolous use of hosepipes :D

:) it was really cool, it's a shame to see it in such a sorry state though. The good news is that it's starting to fill back up now. I'd love to have the equipment to set up a camera somewhere on one of the hills and timelapse it filling back up. That would be an awesome video

@@MarcsEscapades Oh yes! I wonder if visiting the reservoir every day, three times maybe, and photographing it would be enough. It would be a huge time commitment but a very cool video!

I wish I had the time my friend, it's also 7 or so miles away so not feasible while holding down a job! Ah well, I'm sure I'll get a chance to do something similar one day under easier conditions, I don't think this Summer was anything abnormal in the future scheme of things!

Thanks :) yeah it's crazy isn't it, I've never seen a reservoir this low (at least unintentionally). It's great for being able to make videos like this but hopefully it will fill back up soon, the sheer amount of water that's been lost from it is mind boggling. It's worth a look if you're nearby :) Thanks for watching also, much appreciated!

Thankyou! I'm really chuffed with the waterfall shot at 03:30 - turned out pretty nice :) Yes it's really sad to see it empty, I've popped back up since and it's still not much more full despite us having a fair bit of rain. We have a hosepipe ban in place now
