There are two ways of interpreting Yellow's lines: "What's the use in feeling blue?" Or "What's the use in feeling, Blue?" The second one is my favorite.

I feel awful for Ruby, Sapphire, and Pearl. While Amethyst had a chance to finally find her crowd with the other Amethysts, the other three gems had to put up with Holly Blue’s bs for-realistically-hours, between Greg and Steven staying around long enough to get a meal in the Human Zoo (which I would assume is similar to our meals of breakfast/lunch/dinner and their intervals), and sneaking past Blue & Yellow. You get what I mean, right? Most of us have unfortunately dealt with micro-aggressions and had to put on a front to make it through whatever interaction, but for HOURS of Holly Blue’s rhetoric, I’d either be dissociating, or fuming like Ruby. Guess it shows, though, just how much the gems love Steven to go through that for him❤

That's such a great point. It's used for comedic effect but that is actually an awful experience for them to have to go through. At least they got to put Holly Blue in her place in the end!

If you recall Season 2, when the crew were going to build a drill to stop the Cluster, when Pearl was giving her input, Peridot said “That will be all” to her and clapped for her to be dismissed. When Pearl took offense to that and Steven asked why Peridot said that, Peri explained that it’s very common for Pearls to be servants back on HomeWorld. This is something heavily ingrained in HomeWorld’s society, and so for Pearl to be the one getting to say that to Holly Blue’s FACE, and looking down on her on the Rubies’ ship, it’s so amazing and liberating for her! And you know that stung for Holly, though rightfully so.

The beauty of "What's the Use of Feeling Blue?" is that it doesn't feel like a song that was thought out ahead of time. It feels more like a stream of consciousness thing, with Yellow just venting what she's thinking and feeling as she goes along. Except put into "song" form, to try and make it helpful to Blue.

Quartz are divide into two categories macrocrystalline and microcrystalline. Macrocrystalline quartz Is composed of well-known rock crystal, milk quartz, amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, smoky quartz, tiger’s eye, and aventurine. Microcrystalline quartz are translucent and opaque minerals are jasper, carnelian, chalcedony, agate, chert, and flint.

Yellow Diamond finally getting a song (and such a broadway-ish and vocally impressive song too) is GREAT because since she first appeared last season Yellow Diamond has been voiced by Patti Lupone, who’s a huge broadway star. Pearl and Rose are voiced by broadway singers too, but Patti is a huge deal, she’s the original Evita and Gypsy Rose. That along with the dual meaning of ‘what’s the use of feeling blue?’ and ‘what’s the use of feeling, Blue?’

I love how the amethysts are basically therapists for the humans 😂

I absolutely love the designs of the diamonds! The crewniverse has a very spesific theme they're going for with the diamonds, which makes more sense with the context of all 3 (really 4), but seeing Blue's emotiveness vs Yellow's logic is a big part of it. Also! All diamonds DO have diamond shaped pupils! No other gems are shown to have pupils like this (more than brief starry-eyed reactions)! I love that detail! Glad you caught it!

If you think about it, gems- especially the diamonds wouldn't really care about money because they don't work under an economy, and therefore, the concept of money is foreign to them. Gems aren't paid to do their jobs, that's just what's expected of them. Maybe if they do what they do really well, they might gain a higher position or fame, but thats about it.

Keep in mind Sapphire’s impromptu lie to Blue Diamond, that she foresaw Blue wanting to save more humans for the zoo before The Cluster emerges.

I love this for Amethyst - knowing her birth name, er, coordinate, connecting with the other members of the Famethyst, seeing other expressions of what a quartz can be. I mean, to this point she'd only ever met Rose Quartz - who is exceptional in a number of ways - and Jasper (ditto, if less so); it feels like seeing the other Amethysts gives her an appreciation of the Gem she's made herself to be. The lack of a Zooman rescue is sad, but the Crystal Gems don't realistically have the facilities or resources to even house all those people, let alone educate or accommodate them to integrate into Earth society; as-is, they know they're cared for and in friendly hands, and can plan for things long-term (although that is also a Crystal Gem failing, planning things for too long a term).

Under the Geneva Convention, collective punishment is a war crime. Not that gems are subject to that of course, but Steven calls his mom a war criminal, but she's not the one who imprisoned a whole species of gem.

Amethyst, jasper and carnelian are all varieties of quartz with different impurities - amethyst is generally considered "macrocrystalline quartz", while jasper and carnelian are both "microcrystalline"
