Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
If you ordered this cocktail at Trader Vic's, would you order it again? Let's see if I would.
To make the Rum Boogie:
--------------------------------------
3 oz fresh orange juice
2 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1/4 oz curacao
1/4 oz rock candy syrup (2:1 simple syrup)
1/4 oz Herbsaint
1 oz light Puerto Rican rum
1 oz brandy
1 oz 151-proof Demerara rum
--------------------------------------
Blend in electric drink mixer with one scoop shaved ice. Pour into Tiki bowl. Decorate with a gardenia.

I dig this short recipe/review video.

Great! More to come!!
I hate black licorice, but in some classic cocktails that hint of anise they bring is oddly magical. And my grandmother’s Italian neighbor’s anise cookies… oh my.
Perfect opportunity for the Breezeway Blend
The return of Jared! Last year’s Bigfoot Halloween episode was awesome!

Haha... some people love it! 😂🤷🏻♂️
A Sazerac is one of my fave cocktails, I'd give this a shot.
But Sparky, I'm already a subscriber!!! 🙂 Nice li'l snack-sized show there, Spike. Fun. Thanks!
Headed to Trader Vic’s in Emeryville TOMORROW NIGHT!! Thanks for steering me clear of this one. Sounds … unenjoyable. I’ll stick with a Mai Tai or a Navy Grog thanks!!
For herbsaint/Pernod/absinthe, I always interpret Trader Vic's "dash" to be like a dash of bitters, meaning 1/8th of a teaspoon, not the 1/4 oz "dash" he uses for things like syrups. I haven't tried making this one yet, but my guess is that you may like it more if you try it with the lighter "dash" of absinthe next time. Cheers!
Neat to see a shorter video like this. Also sounds like you should try some anisette cookies. Don't know what they could pair well with, but are quite nice around the holidays.
0:01 oh wow Spike can play the guitar. Who knew. 😜
Can't wait to try it!
Great stuff as always. It gave me two thoughts for future videos: 1) what other kinds of flowers/herbs can I garnish drinks with? Like stuff is So Cal’ers might have in our gardens (e.g. roses, lavender, plumeria, etc); & 2) how to modify/revive bummer drink recipes like this one. I hate black licorice too, so I avoid drinks with that flavor profile. But if I could sub in another herbaceous/pungent flavor (e.g. a molasses forward rum with a dash of bitters) in place of the licorice, maybe drinks like this could be revived without changing the sweet to bitter flavor profile it’s inventor intended. Thanks again for all the great content!
I like Licorice, but Allergic to Gardenia. Thanks for the Show.
Love the pops 😂 I normally am not a fan of brandy in a cocktail, and enjoy herbsaint but WOW das a lot of juice 😢

I think Trader Vic's made and sold so many drinks just based on the cool mug design and description, and some were just bad. I'm looking at you Fog Cutter, and even Vic himself was mystified at the success of that drink.
I wonder if the "Rum Boogie" name was inspired from the song "Drum Boogie", 1941 Barbara Stanwyck movie "Ball of Fire"?
Sparky kiss right on cue! Get him an agent! 😎
Was the first version with Bacardi 151 any better? The dog gets its lol!!! Gets lots of treats and toys maybe...

I don't know if it was... 😬🤷🏻♂️
Would you order it again Wednesdays are now expected
So the recipe said to mix it in a drink mixer. I read this as a Hamilton Beach type, not a blender. Do you think that doing it in the blender might have changed the drink profile a bit?
I love to boogie but perhaps not a rum boogie. I guess that Trader Vic must have thought somebody liked this cocktail to feature it in his book. As they say, "One man's meat is another man's poison". Aloha

😂😂😂
Should it be mixed with a spindle blender?

Yeah, probably. The ice probably would have held up a little better with that. Once I started editing this footage (that we shot months ago), I was like, 'oh no.'
New format???
Glad you didn't serve this at Viva 😳like the Mr. Snowman's shaved Ice 😬
Way too much herbsaint. Maybe a few drops would make it taste better.
