Making Zillian the same species and Jax, with the whole "blue skin, three fingers, and two toes" thing going on, would instantly make his design 100 times better. They're the last Icathians! They should look alike!

I wanna know the interaction between Ekko shifting time back and Zilean. Something interesting can be there I think.

here's an idea for Zilean. Zilean would be recently released from a time stasis from using a world rune trying to stop the Void in Icathia. The side affects of the rune gave him PTSD and dementia basically. When he forgets the Void, he wants to only experience the "now" like Groovy Zilean, but when he remembers the Void exists, he would be similar to Ryze. This could be reflected in his changes, where older Zilean remembers it, but younger Zilean doesn't.

I remember before they tied Zilean to Icathia, I was super excited thinking he was one of Ornn’s worshippers. He fits the tinkerer idea, his people were destroyed, and Zilean already had a hatred of Volibear. Specifically the sandals got me, because I think I remember they didn’t need shoes from the natural warmth of the mountain. Still somewhat sad they didn’t go down that direction.

Probably Riot will rework him into an Icathian survivor which settled down in Targon.... and then they will transfrom him into Aspect of Time. At least i think that this is possible.

Here are some ideas i would like to see on Zilean. 1 each time he revives he is in a different age (kinda like what TB said) 2 the clock leaves but whoever has his R on him gains a arcane clock appear on them. 3 as passive get him have "speed pads" on the ground that only he can see so for everyone else he is randomly speeding up or down. 4 remove the time bombs as a mechanical thing and make it a magic paradox And 5 a good change in lore would be that he can change things from the past EXCEPT if the Void is involved as it existed before time and isn't bound to its rules.

Only "old man" character in the game is zilean, there wouldn't be any "old" male characters in the game if you made him into a female, new character would be more fitting and wouldn't be as constrained, as it wouldn't be to trying to adhere to the old champion thematics and would be free to do it's own thing, both with in game abilities and design. I like the rest of the ideas presented, I feel like there's a lot of untapped potential with zilean, he could be similar to the Watchers from marvel, where he only shows up during great times of change or calamity to observe, or other characters come to him for knowledge, there's a lot one can do with him, I'm hopeful they don't just forget about him.

IT would be interesting to get one of these videos on a well designed champion. Sometimes its nice to hear about all the good things rather than all the things that could be better

"Change the way that he moves in the sense that he dosen´t have any kind of konsistent movement" It would be sorta fun (since he floats anyway) when they "reverse" the animation for when he is slowed/speed up. So his animation is slower when he gets a temporary movements speed buff and faster when he is hit with a slow.

i would like to know how zilean would react to a timeline where the void isnt the biggest problem that runetera has. like the end of everything with the dark star universe

I was actually thinking about him being something like Ghost from Marvel who's every cell splits and reattaches, giving her the ability to swap through matter. I think that maybe gameplay wise he'd have some sort of random invulnerability that makes him pass through units and terrain while dodging any attack towards him or in the area, as if he is there but isn't at the same time due to some time machine like Ekko or maybe magic. Also, I think that he could have a connection to Mount Targon lore wise, maybe as the aspect of time itself, since we don't have that yet.

An interesting, and simple, idea to translate your concept of young/old aspects of Zilean to game designing could be the change of his current ultimate into making him young again and therefore providing more damage, movement speed and CDR for a short period of time. Then his useless passive can be changed into his current ultimate ability, which would only work on himself (similar to Zac's passive). I think just this "mini-rework" would be great already... Another interesting idea, still playing with time, would turning him into a "scaling time-bomb". Maybe a passive that accumulate damage over-time could make Zilean more useful .

I love your videos so much! I've never played League but your analyses are always so interesting and in-depth! Will you ever give this same treatment to other franchises? I think you'd really love Bayonetta's design and lore, the story the games tell is merely serviceable but the lore is pretty intriguing.

For a non-gameplay time-related change, maybe the area around him, where he walks, changes as he passes. Maybe when Zilean is too close to the raptors you can see a little bit of the specters that used to be there, or when a Camille passes by him you can see her human legs. Sounds complicated? of course, would be good? maybe, for those who know the lore I guess.

You've made some points I never knew were so important to me when it comes to a character suspended from time. Looking at Dr Manhattan as an equal is impossible for anyone in his universe, including celestial beings. Similarly I find Zilean will need to see everyone except those who are involved in the void conflict as inconsqeuential phantoms- as though spending his time and attention on them is too taxing to his mental stability. I really love your idea of his changing age with mechanical parts of the game...though I think I prefer another person's idea of having him always spawn witb a randomly selected age from a pool of maybe three models. Having Zilean actively change with every skin is like kha'zix and his skin problem except twofold because its constantly gonna be shifting. Instead I think it fits far better to have the dynamic character model be on a new ultimate skin, but still be tied to some kind of passive based on how much experience he has gained or how much mana he has RECENTLY spent. That idea of Zil needing to go out of his way to play differently than other champs is a lot of opportunity for unique gameplay patterns in my mind.

I love the idea of changing exp gains and cooldowns/power based on the mana bar, and so his appearance. It's great and fit his theme so much. One of the things I would like to see are: • Zilean voice lines try to see the future (or talk about the past) of the game you are in; • Using the concept of a hourglass instead of a clock; • Using xp as a resource. Zilean's passive grant to one allie and to himself bonus experience, so using this to empower an abilitie at the cost of the time you are playing that game and maybe even taking the risk of losing one level would be a cool mechanic that makes the player administrate the time. I like play Zilean a lot especially because his ultimate, so he can "erase" the mistakes of someone (including himself), and some of your ideas are sooo good (although I don't like the "old woman" thing for him, a new character with this theme would be great). Amazing video!

The movement thing you talked about (him shifting between fast and slow) is actually quite doable. There's already a bunch of character with alternative walking animations. (e.g. Zoe, Heimerdinger)

I would say a way to keep the clock or use an hourglass is to have something like Tracer from Overwatch. It sounds like his lore is similar to hers in the sense that he's displaced in time. You could use the clock or hourglass as a device similar to Tracer's chronal accelerator that binds him to the present time (which is what allows you to play as him). Because he is displaced in time and if they want to keep him looking old he could have been for a long time, that's where his abilities come from because he has been able to study and master time. Ekko's device is also called a Z-Drive if I'm not mistaken. Maybe Zilean created the only working one in existence because he has kind of mastery over time and they named it after him. Just some other ideas about what they could do with him. Love this series btw. Keep it up TB

6:20: It might work if the giant clock was a _burden_ to him, if it was obviously weighing him down. But it's not, so it doesn't. And maybe from a lore standpoint, the clock is something he created to try and mitigate the effects of his displacia, and that's why he has to carry it around 24/7? 11:00: "Character not living in normal linear time" crossed wires in my head with "Archmage" to produce "Oh, hey, Merlin ages backwards in some of ye olde legends, doesn't he?" That could be a decent point to start brainstorming; I'm sure there are a _zillion_ ways you could go from there. 17:30: That _would_ be cool. I don't know how tough that would be, the sorts of technical sacrifices that would require, but it would be pretty cool. 23:05: That sounds like it would make the start of a decent comedy skit. Zilean tries to walk through a tree, forgetting that there's a tree there this decade, and promptly starts arguing with a passer-by that it _totally_ makes sense for him to try walking through things. 4:30: If Zilean stillhas chrono-displacia, I hope he ends up in a time with Winston. I hear he has experience dealing with that sort of case. (He should be able to leave the stabilizer off long enough to return to his own time, right?)

Well, Bard kinda has that idea of not thinking in a linear flow of time. Only way that it is represented is his Ent (Lord of the Rings) style language and the skin information for Bard Bard tho

I think a great way to connect the clockwork with Zilian would be to to make it so that he uses it to know when he is after his mind gets lost in the past. Like he returns and it tells him what day and time it is so he doesn't go insane

Hi there. I'm a Zilean main (2.3 million mastery been playing since season 2), have an art background and talked to other Zilean main players about this alot. We've come to concepts like this before always love it. If they ever got ride of the big back clock I would be fine with it. I would still play him/her Unconditionally loving him forever. But, you think a champion Who was picked or banned in many world tournaments would have a little bit more TLC done to him. Loved the video amazing!

I'd make Zilean have puppet strings and I would replace the little wooden cross handle thing with the giant clock that is currently behind him. It would show he's controlled by time instead of the other way around.

For the "Walk through walls" thing you mentioned. Maybe give Zilean different paths through the map, and have his ult allow him to change what time he(and potentially a target teammate) is inhabiting.

If you talked about Zilean I think a good champion to look at next would be Ekko because they are the same concept but different interpretations of the concept.

I'd love to see your take on Ekko, which is a way more dynamic and vibrant take on a time controller.

I wish Zilean was tied to Piltover; maybe a scientist obsessed with time who performed a risky experiment involving Hextech crystals that drastically changed his perception of time. It could justify the clock, as his powers would come from Hextech, and the connection to Piltover could lead to some interesting interactions with Ekko.

"Time flies like an arrow, fruit flies like banana" is the quote Riot shouldn't remove when Zilean gets reworked.

I like the idea of the female zilean witch archetype, but instead of JUST an old woman, I'd merge it with the aging mechanism to do a character play on the three faced woman in one, maiden mother and crone. Just a thought.

Your description of Zilean becoming more powerful as he has less mana reminds me of the old version of Karma's passive, which gave her increasingly more AP as her HP decreased, combined with Veigar's old passive of having increased mana regeneration at low mana.

Honestly, I kind of hope that a Zilean update would do something similar to Pulsefire Ezreal, in that he can comment on various possible outcomes for different champions' futures and get confused as to what has/hasn't happened yet.

He can go past his mana limit, but every time he does, he's stunned for half a second :)

I think a great "time mage" that you should check out is Nox from the Wakfu TV-series.

Talking about hes movement animation, it could be pretty cool that he advance as Mr. Game & Watch does in Super Smash.

The last bit messed me up

they could change his passive that is bad just like you said, he starts young, and gets older with time (or levels) gaining damage and losing cd reduction, so he must build cd reduction late game, and keep the expriencething by making him get extra xp every time he gets older, so he will get to 18 by the time the rest is 16

I wish I could see something doctor who ish like he can go to anywhere and anyplace in time but because of the void no matter what he cant go back to icathia to save it and have the whole chrono displacia thing where his conscience isn't with him and stuff? Idk

A thing you could do to give Zilean the feel of being superiour to his surroundings (The talk at the time 23:12), was to let him continue walking after death, and when his respawn timer finished, he ressurects in the spot he is on the map instead of at the spawn. Maybe even going through minions and champions.

you would have to give him less mana or almost nothing when he resurrects if not it would be broken to unimagined levels just think about it you go mid fight for a little, you lower you enemys health they use all their mana to kill you, you walk away for 10 or 12 seconds on early game then resurrect with full health and mana and then harass them out of lane again and again and again till you win, you could fix that making him resurrect with less mana or life but that would make him need to go to the spawn for recovery defeating the purpose of the resurrection in the firts place

TB, Vel'Koz actually had a small lore connection where he found the tower that Zilean used to do his time research: "Eventually, we come upon a destroyed city, save for one pristine tower. It appears to be protected - or intentionally left standing." And in the short he wanted to find Zilean after finding out he had time magic so he could laser beam his knowledge outta him. He even still has an interaction with Zilean: "Zilean, there is a great secret within you."

17:50 Okay, how about the same but with his passive. He gives XP to players, so when he uses passive he ages. Since he stays still when he transfers his passive the transformation could have time to go through. These are good ideas. I love Zilean for his weird playstyle, but his model just looks painful. Can we save The Hag theme for Morgana?

Following the system of Riot to make champions, it wont be rare to if they base Zilean´s design on Doctor Who. Usually they borrow a archetype and develop it in other direction.

If zilean gets a vgu I want his design to move from clocks to sundials or hourglasses.

I don't know, I always loved this character, as he was my main when I played league. I know he doesn't make any sense, and I guess that's why I liked this goofy champ. An old crazy guy who just threw clocks and rambled. I guess it was mostly his gameplay that made me fall in love with him.

Because timebombs are a thing and Riot weren't super creative in their champion design back in the day.

As a Zilean player that idea of him aging as he spends mana/levels sounds amazing.

Hi I’ve never been on your channel before but I’m here to thank and express my appreciation for the video you made right before this one chronologically. Comments were disabled on that one for good reason and I don’t know if its a good idea to just come here and bring it up but I really wanted to just come and say thanks for that video. You’re doing good work that gives you no advantages talking about that and I and others I’m sure are grateful. Even if a piece of artistic work has good points there are some lines that just shouldn’t be crossed just to entertain people. Thank you for informing me about it before I would have gotten attached to something unnecessary and degenerative.
