What’s the Best ZZ Plant Soil Potting Mix?

The best potting mix for a ZZ house plant is going to be a partial mix between potting soil and cactus soil mix. On average most people keep this plant in a soil mixture of 60% regular potting soil and the other 40% a cactus soil mix. By adding that cactus mix you’re ensuring that the soil is going to drain very fast. The ZZ plant is used to drought seasons and that’s why we need that soil to drain extremely fast. This plant hates to be sitting in wet moist soil.
By adding the cactus mix to the regular potting mix you are adding a little bit of orchid, bark and perlite to dry out the soil mix. you could probably still get away with keeping the ZZ plant and regular potting mix but you’re gonna have better draining and a mixture with cactus mix.

Nursery knows what they doing in THEIRE ENVIRONMENT :) I always have to change the potting mix because where I live, 85F+ dry summers and 45F humet winters. My zz came in a sort of tropical mix. I didn’t water it for a month, but after the first watering I got rotten roots 😔 Thanks for the video :)

the most common issue I see with the ZZ plants that I get from the store is that the roots are so tight inside the pot that it's almost close to break the pot. And when I try to repot it to a bigger pot, I need to know the composition of the existing soil , so that I fill the gap to the margins with the same soil mix that the plant comes in. But this information is not present on the plant's tag and I'm having a hard time figuring this out by studying it visually Anyway, I will try your suggestion 60% regular soil + 40% cactus mix :D Thanks for the clip

Mine do great with approximately 60% potting soil, 20% small bark, 20% perlite, and a bit of charcoal.

What are your thoughts on potting a ZZ & Raven ZZ together. Like breaking apart and repoting all together?

My beautiful ZZ plant just randomly rotted in the middle of the cluster. I watered it maybe 3 times in the past year and it was already super tight in the pot (the pot was even deformed by the rhizomes) when I got it as a gift a year ago, but I was told that if I repot it there is a very big chance that it might die. Now I need to repot it and I am devastated. Since I got it already big (probably 1,5-2 times bigger then the one you have in the video)

My zz plant's stem gets only 2 or 4 leaves max. What may be the reason?

I've had my ZZ for about 13-14 mos and it has sent up many new shoots in the last couple months and two of them shot up taller than the original growths!
