I hate the plastic flips, I prefer the cardboard holders or the clear plastic capsules.

After flattening the staples, I put my 2x2's into small ziplock bags, ( 2 1/4" x 2 3/4"), for further protection as well as ease of removal from boxes designed to hold 2x2's. I also put in capsules, (up to I size), to protect the capsules from scratches. I have used 2x2's since the mid sixties and have been lucky enough to get ones with a non-reactive mylar. I have seen others that stick to the coins. The flips do let air in, which after a while, will allow toning.

I agree, except the mylar flaps let moister in, thus making spotsI lost my off-center dime to spots from the miler flaps, but great video

I mostly use my needle nose pliers to pull the staples out before transferring them into my Whitman albums,but scissors would be alot faster when you have alot if coins at one time.

I use the 2x2 Mylar type, I use a staple remover..

Very informative! I tend to use both! Flips for the More Vintage Coins Nickels/ dimes..etc. 2×2 for the pennies (depend'g on yr.).

If you use flat jawed needle nose pliers to flatten the staples, that will prevent them from cutting into the other 2x2s and scratching the coin. I have not had good luck with the self seal 2x2s as they come apart over time and faster if the coin is thick and then the stapler comes out anyway. 2x2s unlike flips don't let the coin slide around and seal the coin off from the environment a bit better. I have coins in 2x2s that have been in the same holder for almost 40 years now and have suffered no ill effects. The key is to store and house your coins properly to avoid problems. Check them periodically.

Any particular brand of cardboard 2x2’s you recommend? Just getting started and I have a couple coins of sentimental value I want to prioritize and not sure how many of the cardboard ones have PVC in the plastic covering

I use it for lower value coins and put them in booklets where they stay separate.

What is a safe way to clean coins? Got coins from a family member & as I'm going thru them I'm finding some with small circles of green like a mold on them. Any suggestions?

I have one question (below my drivel)... I've avoided the self adhesive holders for fear of volatiles from the glue affecting the coin. Staples can seem hazardous too. So, I used to crimp them with pliers I had removed the griping surface. Now, I'm using a crimp flat stapler that does a good job. I use Quarter size (1.5x1.5) for everything up to Quarter (Cent, Nickel, Dime, Quarter). I've got coins that have lived happily in cardboard holders for more than 40 years with no issues. But, you indicate the plastic may be different now than then, so that's something to think about. My question is about PVC and zip seal baggies. In an attempt to protect the OGP of Mint and Proof sets, I thought it might be a good idea to place the package in a baggie, which also provides for writing down relevant information about the sets. Do you (or anyone reading this) know if PVC is a problem when using baggies this way? Thanks!

I never thought of that way to remove coins from 2x2's. I actually prefer them because the coin isn't sliding around in a flip.

Me too and I like them better than the flips because they hold the coin in place better.

Hello, I got some hard plastic cases to store some old coins. Now that I have learned about PVC damaging coins I’m worried it will mess them up. Can u recommend hard plastic cases? The individual ones? Thank you

I always use pliers to mash the staples down as much as possible. Plus, only use 3 staples

while the cardboard holders look nice, I prefer the plastic slips so i can regularly get them out to hold them.Flips also go nicely in the cardboard boxes.
