“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.
Today, more than 20 years later, Young Nails Inc., is a professional nail care manufacturing company exporting to over 40 countries worldwide and distributing domestically to over 3000 stores. We’re respected for our next-level product innovation and education. Our mission is to bring you the best quality products and we’ll show you how to use them with incredible results. It’s really that simple.
Welcome to the Young Nails family!

I got my license in December 2019 and I just started practicing consistently this month 2021(everyday). I put myself under so much pressure telling myself that practice makes perfect. I stop telling myself that and started reminding myself daily that” practice makes me better and that dreams don’t work unless I do”! I didn’t go to school just to get a license, I desire to be a great Nail Tech and Educator! With that goal in sight I really began to take practicing seriously and posting my work as much as possible! Thanks YN, y’all are bomb..❣️

Omg, Practiced for like 2 months, on my hands, plastic hands, everything. I thought that's it, acrylic is just not for me. Then, I saw a KZread vid, talking about brushes. I got a medium expensive, well known, popular brush and Omg, Omg, was night and day. I love it. Now I rock at Acrylic, well mostly 😉

I ordered Greg's signature brush! Was working with a #6, I think Greg's is a #12 😳 I can't believe how much better I am with it! *note: I don't know if brush sizes are different between Australia and US but Greg's brush is much more chunky than my old "preferred size".

I do my nails, watch videos to learn new techniques everyday. I use acrylic, gel and polygel. I never knew nails were my passion. Everyday I'm thinking of my next step. My next investment is a professional drill. Im in this for life that's how much I love nails.

Thanks for this one! I am just starting out (started last month) and I love it so much. I am disabled, so I don't see a future in working as a nail tech, but I am an artist and I enjoy makeup, hair, and nails, not to mention fine arts. So I see this as a way to express myself and maybe if I practice and share my work I could one day put my creativity out there for others to enjoy in a way that works for me and my needs.

@@aerongrimm3162 Thank you so much for your feedback! It's encouraging to hear that you are doing well and enjoying yourself while making some extra money. My disability isn't very common, so it can be difficult to even know what my limitations are! I just got a practice hand and some nail tips. My plan is to practice and make my nail art, then if people see it and like it, then I would be open to having a few clients. That would be amazing! Having people come to me would be a huge help. I just don't think I could ever be a licensed nail tech, all the tests for cosmetology and beauty related things are too physically strenuous for me... Maybe I can advertise my services as a disabled nail artist who specializes in disabled clients. The few people I have worked on are disabled or have special needs. One of the main reasons I started doing my own nails is bc nail techs accidentally hurt me, as my disability is genetic and effects my skin and joints. A nail tech has literally dislocated my finger by using the force she would normally use on a client. So maybe there is a need for someone how knows those struggles and can have a delicate touch when needed. Again, thanks so much, I am very inspired to practice now!

@@karenmcdoanld8805 Thank you! We all are different, so we each need to learn what works for us, whether we are differently abled or not. So I have 2 trainer hands from Amazon and I can definitely agree that trainer hands are SOOOOOOO much more difficult to work on. Not only do the forms fall off but the nails pop off COnStAntLy!! One I got myself when I first began and the other was a school provided practice hand. I wish the school I go to only used Young Nails products because I swear it’d make for a better learning experience altogether. I actually have a HUGE problem with self confidence, and timing… I’m trying so hard to improve though and you all’s tutorials and content help SIGNIFICANTLY! My time for a full acrylic set on practice hands is roughly 3 hours. I will be signing up for you all’s classes whenever I have the extra money so I can get help with pointing out where I’m going wrong. As always, thank you Young Nails team for literally everything!!

Excellent video, love your chats. I practice with the practice hand, following your lessons, every day I practice something such as, reducing bulk techniques with e file as you teach us, other day sculpting different nail shapes, other day filing techniques, other day gel/acrylic designs, other day acrylic application, other day my own timing (still need to improve, I'm in 2 hours when doing acrylic full set). Im a beginner with intermediate level expertise). But let me tell, that thanks to YN and Greggs tutorials I have learned a lot. Im so grateful❤💯

Hiiii Young Nails crew, I absolutely 💯enjoy watching, listening to EVERYTHING y'all put out. The information I've received has changed how I do nails. I am 57 never had acrylic NAILS! In my day I had a fiber strip applied for a few years, then returned to tissue and glue.. always had the polish nail art going years of practice!!! Over the last 3 years I decided I wanted to have a in-home small nail care business and started training myself.. watching YN everyday, all day, over n over has MUCH improved my techniques. I find myself repeating to myself, "trust the process". I have incountered awful unfortunate events that started to uninspire this dream, until I found YN!!! Thank you for bringing me back to it!!! I will keep watching!!

One day I decided to make them look like normal nails, after snipping and filing forever they eventually looked like real nails!! While I totally agree with learning with the product that you intend to use (meaning a great quality product like Young Nails), a new tech should also be prepared for the likelihood that the salon they go to work in may not use that same product line. So, it is good to at least play around with other lines just to know what they feel like and how they behave. When I was in school, they wanted me to use a certain product line, which I hated. So I tucked my YN stuff in my kit and used it all the way through, up until my practical exam and then I had to use the other stuff because I was being watched so closely. It worked out okay, but probably not something I would recommend for anyone else.😁 And now, I practice myself to death daily. If I’m not doing nails, I’m practicing something on a mannequin head or studying something that will keep me current on what’s happening in my state regarding the mandates and how that will effect my business goals.

🙌🏾 There were a lot of good points in this video. I started doing nails in late 2019. I wasn't practicing consistently. In early 2020 I got really serious. 🤣🤣🤣 I decided to go to nail school. I graduated 1/8/21. I'm not practicing at the moment. I'm currently focusing on my state boards. Once I'm done I will be back at it full time. I normally practice on my Red Iguana hand or myself. When I practice on myself I use cuticle oil and gel top coat so I can pop the nails right off once I'm finished. When I want to learn a new skill I watch YN videos or some of my fav KZreadrs to get a better perspective. I plan on investing in more education later this year.

Much needed video! I was freaking out to my husband yesterday b/c I have been doing real hands but after Christmas, the rising COVID numbers caused me to make the decision to stop taking clients for a little bit b/c I do nails in my home. Anyway, I started feeling withdrawals from not doing nails so I sat there & planned to do a quick acrylic set with forms on both of my YN practice hands. OH MY GOSH, I only got to 3 fingers b/c they SUCKED lol. I told my husband wtf, it's like I have never done nails before 😫 The forms wouldn't cooperate & stick, the fingers felt Ginormous (giant + enormous), the acrylic seemed too bulky to file b/c I wasn't going to wear down all of my bits on those busted up nails 😂 I felt very defeated but this video helped me remember how difficult it was when I started with the practice hand. Thanks for this 😍

In the past 1 1/2 years I've become quite good at my own nails, so far I haven't done someone else's though, so now I'm starting to ask friends if I can practice on them. the practice hand just creeps me out!

I'm all over the place, " oh new product" ,, get it. Gel first, no acrylic,, oh just do both. Pretty art, let me buy all that.....My head 🤕 hurts. "Look foils, gel paint and that new acrylgel.... 🤔 Buy it" I still haven't mastered an acrylic nail shape. 😩 I'm tired 💤😴 Buy that hand, no fingers, "oh look a 👣 foot". I need Asprin 💊 & ☕ asap. "I can keep going"😭😂 I swear, not crazy over here,, just a little obsession for nails❤️

I watched this whole video while doing my nails😅 I practice on myself constantly bc wanting to be a nail tech and Cosmetologist, (I just got accepted into Cosmetology school!!😝) I want my nails to be done as often as possible and lookin good! I practice on my friends when I can, and I do my mans nails at least once a week😂 I'm hoping that a practice hand and nail supplies come in my cosmo kit (it better for the price😅) so I can practice more often🥰

It’s the not the practice I’m concerned about it’s where to practice at. I have very limited on where to practice at. I can’t practice in the house because my boyfriend wouldn’t even let me do it even though I opened every window in the house. I can’t practice in the garage because he has all is car stuff. My mom and my sister was very kind enough to have me practice at there place but still a lot of stuff to stroll considering I have a lot of nail stuff 😔😔😔

I’m about to go to school for hair and nails 💅🏼 I practice on my practice hand as well as I practice on my mom for pedicures. I don’t charge her yet because I’m learning. If I did a friends nails I would charge half of what I would charge if I was licensed (haven’t done any friends or other peoples nails yet) . I’m not licensed so technically I can’t profit from it legally.

Is there an online class that I can take? Including practical? I have a 3 month old son and I’m up in the boonies and everything is over an hour away. It’d be nice if I can participate in an online class where it would be recognized by the board. Including getting the hours requirements. I’m in California and they require 400 hrs. Just not possible with my son.

I can relate to the frustration the practice hand gives when it comes to forms not sticking. Nail tips are easy but I like the challenge of building the free edge and customizing. One thing I’ve done instead of always using the bigger nail tips for my practice hand was actually filing the nails down (the ones for the practice hand) to a smaller size so the smaller nail tips will work and kind of see the actual sizes of different, smaller nails.

I am a more mature (age) person who thought I would have a future in nail tech. I went to college have 80 hours to finish and lots of time with clients. I got breast cancer shortly after I enrolled so it has taken me longer to get on the floor then most of my class mates. Then as I’m heading to the finish line I became allergic to everything I work with. I have so much money invested in this. What do I do I’m so frustrated?

With any kind of allergic reaction, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider. They can help determine what products or chemicals you are having a reaction to and going forward, you may be able to find products that don't contain those ingredients and be able to continue your nail tech career.

Don't worry just get a practice hand or even finger it doesn't have to expensive. What's important is that you dont give up.

A silicone practice finger is much more affordable than a practice hand (I get it, the hands are expensive. I’ve never had one. I’m self taught for the most part. I never had a practice hand/finger, never had friends or family to practice on. Only myself, so I feel where you’re coming from) Red Iguanas silicone finger is like $20. You can find them on IG. Just keep trying, make sure they know right from the get go that you’re still learning so it’s not going to be the most bomb set in town and they don’t have high expectations. Maybe while you’re working on them let them know it would be more helpful for you if they would let you know what they aren’t liking and that you can’t get better if no one ever comes back. Just keep pushing forward and don’t let it get you down, you will get there.
