What's the best non-surgical facelift? Plastic surgeon reveals the stand-out solution

This week I spoke to New York-based plastic surgeon Dr Richard Westreich to find out which of all the skin-tightening technologies on the market he rates as the most effective - and there is one clear stand-out.
He talks radiofrequency, Exilis, Thermage and thermal ablation, laser, Fraxel, Erbium, Ultherapy, chemical peels, dermabrasion and more to bring us the complete lowdown on the best anti-aging solutions out there.
We also talk eyelid lifts and the situations where surgery may be more appropriate for face lifting. #antiaging #nonsurgicalfacelift

So glad you’re enjoying the channel! My mum has had so much benefit from the climber - it’s a great investment. I have tried Tixel (similar to fibroblast) in the past and filmed a couple of videos on my results. It helped lift my upper lids but did thin my skin so there are pros and cons. My skin volume improved over time so I think overall the treatments worked well for me.

Hi Lauren. Dr Westreich is talking about non-surgical procedures as alternatives to facelifts - so those powerful treatments you can get in clinics to tighten your skin. I find microcurrent useful for keeping muscles toned but it wouldn’t significantly address sagging skin. Same with dermawand. They’re more helpful for slight, gradual lifts and maintenance. I tried laser skin ablation and for all the pain, bleeding, oozing and downtime, it didn’t do anything! My derm even performed it four times, the third time for half price and the fourth time for free, and only one line on my upper lip was improved. At that point, he gave up. I also tried Juvederm and Radiesse, and merely absorbed them without any improvement-even after trying both twice over around my mouth, in my lips and the backs of my hands. As soon as the initial swelling receded, there was no improvement at all. I have very little fat on my body, but perhaps trying a fat transfer from my lower abdomen to my lips, around my mouth and to the backs of my hands? Unfortunately, I have not been able to find a derm who does this in the San Francisco Bay Area! Apparently, the ones who are trained in this are in Southern California.

It’s interesting the types of treatments he’s recommending in that they’re all taught these practices (different chemical’s and various machines) by big pharma when they’re in medical school. Choosing these options won’t guarantee your success or satisfaction but they all do benefit 1. the doctor and 2. of course big pharma. Therefore I cannot stress enough the use of red light therapy masks which you can use in the privacy of your own home. With regular use (5 nights a week for 20 to 30 minutes) you’ll experience effective results for a lot less $$$ that are gentler to your skin. Plus it’s not like after you have all this done (peels and machines) your face is going to stay like that. But the regular and ongoing use of red light mask technology helps you to maintain the effects ongoing for a LOT less of an investment.

no LED masks offer infrared light. The closest they come to infrared is near infrared. Red, blue, green, Amber, etc. are not infrared. Infrared is its own wave length-and its very hot. red light masks and panels are wonderful, but they are not going to do much for a 65-year-old with significantly sagging skin. Hi Claire Ultherapy as you have experienced, lifts sagging skin the visualisation allows the ultrasound to be delivered into the correct tissue layer, avoiding fat. With over 10 years of experience at Dr Victoria Clinic Edinburgh I have never seen fat loss. I visited Ultherapy’s research and development innovation centre in Phoenix Arizona USA to learn directly from the scientists who designed Ultherapy. They were trying to develop a hand piece that would break down fat, this has not been possible. I visited an outstanding dermatology practice in Washington to exchange ideas on how get the best outcomes with Ultherapy. Myself and my wonderful colleague Dr Julia Selvi (Leeds) worked closely with Merz to bring best practice back to the UK. Dr Julia Selvi did ground breaking work to re-designed the whole training path for Ultherapy practitioners in the UK and internationally. I can confidently say that Ultherapy is the safest way to non-surgically lift. The type of collagen is youthful, giving a lovely fresh glow to the skin. Skilled treatment is generally very tolerable and you can put your makeup on and go out that night with no discomfort.

Eye surgery is the most bang for your buck. It's the most successful, heals the fastest and makes the biggest difference. If u have only one surgery, that's the one.
