@@RedBranchBushcraft , You are Welcome and I really like the part about you not being too bright , But I'm glad that you think that it's wonderful that you ain't too Bright also , That makes it unanimous , We both think that you ain't too Bright , Ferro Rods come in different hardness or softness , This means that the Ferro Rod can throw more sparks the softer it is , but it also wears out more quickly the softer it is , Ferrocerium or Cerium is a metal that is mixed with Iron . 40% percent Cerium and 20% percent Iron , Then other ingredients like magnesium are added and this is the softness or hardness of the Ferro Rod , So paying a higher price for one over the other is just plain , Not too Bright ! Just like you !

Today on The Bruno Show with Wooly...don't whistle if you don't want a bird dog to come flying at you. 🤣 I am fortunate enough to live in the same city as a well known outdoors/survival supplier who carries a nice selection of all the C's. After acquiring every one of the models they carry, I found I like the ones without a handle. Just a hole for some shock cord and/or a lanyard. Stay well over there.

Since they all had the handles pop off, why did you dislike the light my fire one? The only negative was that its handle popped off? Was there another reason? Also love the doggie supervisor!

you should buy a bunch of regular ferro rods from china and make handes for them, with a set screw so you can change out the rod when it's wore out.

Striker is a separate video? A sharp strong striker with 90 degree edges that can be EASILY handled in this case by a bunch of kids is vital for success. EPOXY the handles on if you're gonna use those tiny things. I use a 1/2 X6 Bayite and a hunk of a high speed lathe mill bit epoxied into a hunk of wood, and I'm almost 60 with a physical disability here in the US. The Corona style shears sharpener is also great . Love your dogs. IDK where all these different rods are actually made. The soft mischmetal type that require low pressure, length and speed, but sling gobs of metal, those are $$$. Medium grade like Bayite , you can get for far less off Amazon. But most important is your striker. Thanks for trying to do your best with the kids😁

I have one from Marttiini and a few from the euro store. I gave the euro store ones a handle made from antlers or bones I got in the dog food store. They work equally well... I would never ever spend much money on one. The Marttiini one I believe came as gift with an order but it is like 10£ in the online store I think, overpriced anyway

Ok so ...I have been very unhappy with most strikers and even more so since i have carpel tunnel in my right hand recently...so after researching away i desided that a ceramic striker was the way to go... tried to buy some ..LOL! Im in Australia so we always pay extra it seems for any survival gear.. knock offs from ebay are usually so bad its a waste of money. So my kid had a temper tanrum and broke a dinner plate today.... guess what? i have an endless supply of free ceramic strikers i can mould and drill a hole thru with my dremmel tool. Tantrums for the win! Who'd thave thought it:)

I know a good workman never blames his tools, but my ferro rod doesn't produce sparks the way I see all these KZread ferro rods producing sparks. I have a Survival Inc Strike Force which comes with its own built-in metal striker, and no matter how hard I try, I can never get the kind of long-burning (i.e. 1 second or more), fizzing and crackling sparks I see on these KZread videos. I only ever get sparks that are hot for a fraction of a second and then they go out. I've spent half an hour striking it into piles of bone dry pine needles, grass, leaves and fine wood shavings (even bone dry sawdust) and nothing catches. And just to clarify, I know about the coating that these rods have. I'm not just scraping a brand new rod. The coating is long gone, so it can't be that.

Have you tried a different make of rod? Their all different hardness , softer means longer burning sparks

Get a sharper striker, like the spines on some Mora or Opinel knives or make your own sharpe edge using sandpaper, or a mid or high grit sharpening stone. Use proper angle of that sharp edge and watch some videos, to improve your technique. Any kind of ferro rod, can produce those great sparks you see on others, it's 99% not the fault of your ferro rod.
