What's the best eReader? iPad vs. Kindle for reading 2021

Hey everyone, in this video I talk about the iPad vs. Kindle for reading. This is the video I would have wanted when deciding on if I should get an iPad or a kindle. I did a "mini" Kindle Paperwhite review, along with a "mini" iPad review and related them both to what type of reading each device is best for. They are both excellent tools but for different purposes. I also related this to how to read more books since I wasn't sure which one of these tools would help the most in that. After having used both the kindle and the iPad over the course of a couple years, I can say with some confidence that figuring out what your goal is from buying one of these devices is the first step in making an informed decision.

    Joined the crew! Thanks for the comparison video. Now that I'm out of school, I'm definitely going to pick up a kindle for leisure reading.

    I use highlighting and notes feature on the kindle when I am reading a book for a book review. It saves all your notes and highlights in a file which I believe you can import into an email or text file on the computer.

    I'm a self-publisher of a math & science book, I was looking into having the book on an ereader and iPad. Your thoughts are what I was leaning toward. With a textbook, you want to see the whole 8.5 x 11. There're graphs, charts, diagrams etc., it just doesn't work having to scroll back n forth, you need a big screen to view everything at once. Like you said as far as leisure reading, my Kobo is great for just text. Thank for helping me with my budget indie market research.

    Thank you so much for showing your textbook on the iPad Air screen!! This is the first video I had found where an actual college textbook was shown. I was debating on an iPad Air or Mini. This just sold me on getting the air because it is still portable but can see the whole page just like reading a book! Great video!!!

    As someone who is an avid fanfic reader (😏) i honestly don’t mind reading off a screen, my eyes are so bad anyways so reading on it is just normal for me. The Google books app is what i use for reading bc i can get books for free on it has warm screen and dim options so it doesn’t hurt your eyes as much as it does normally. It’s what you’re reading, not how you read it. I think ppl say how incredible a kindle is, but if you have an iPad already (ik a lot of ppl don’t but get what you think is best personally) i don’t see the point in getting a kindle :)

    I have been looking for a way to get back into reading more and to not have to buy a bookshelf again like I had to have when I was younger. I've been leaning more towards an iPad for ereading, and your video helped me :). Taking notes is something I didnt even think about on my iPad. Sadly, I wanted to get the new iPad mini, but I found out it doesn't support any fold-out keyboards...

    ooo so happy to help! The new iPad mini could have been a star but oh well. The bigger ones are pretty nice too and they become even more versatile with the keyboard.

    Karla, could you please make the video about how you use your iPad as a student. Explaining which iPad apps you recommend and how to use them. I am starting College next Spring and I would love to learn how to use all the power of this tech tool! You have an amazing channel!!!

    I use my ipad air 4 for reading… got kindle but gave it away cuz i can’t read txt book’ with pictures on kindle.., And i think it is better to have less device , or one device that cud do all of it.., For distractions, it is better to train your self control and that to buy another device and add more friction… 😊😊😊

    Hi! I have a question: What would you recommend for a college student, for reading tasks, PDF? Carrying it with me everyday? Six mini or 5th Air? Thanks!

  • @KarlaHoltman

    @KarlaHoltman

    Hey! I have the 5th Air and have used it for exactly what you're asking about. I think the size of the mini might make it difficult to see the pdfs well.

    I haven’t tried the new Mini but I had one as a kid and it wasn’t the best. I’m sure the models have changed but I like the larger size if the Air for studying and general usage.

    iPad at home. Kindle everywhere else. Kindle is lighter, easier to use, some models are water proof, and people are less likely to steal it. And if it does get misplaced or stolen, it’s not like the worst thing in the world. The iPad is like 5-6* the price.
