What's So Spiritual about Fasting? | Episode 89
The Bible repeatedly refers to the practice of fasting, and, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus made the assumption that His followers would fast. (See Matthew 6:16-18.) But what is so spiritual about going hungry? Dr. David K. Bernard explains the biblical purpose of fasting and how saying "no" to food can help you say "yes" to a closer relationship with God.

To clarify: I am not against a “Daniel fast.” As I mentioned, I believe God honors various means in which we discipline ourselves and seek him first. My point was simply that the normal fast in Scripture is from all food. The Book of Daniel gives two examples of a partial fast. In Daniel 1, Daniel and his friends partook of vegetables and water for ten days to demonstrate that they would thrive without eating the king’s food that was ceremonially unclean under Jewish law. This was the fast I referenced. In Daniel 10, Daniel set aside three weeks of mourning and prayer in which he didn’t partake of any pleasant (rich) food, meat, or wine and didn’t anoint himself (with fragrant lotions). - Dr. David K. Bernard

Sir @DavidKBernard , should a man with maintenance can take his medicine while having fasting?

I don't like "fasting breath" either from me or someone else xD
Yes sir!!!! Great word! The Lord be glorified!!!
I'm still wet behind the ears to the idea of fasting, so please don't laugh if this is a stupid question. During a recent weeklong one-meal-per-day fast I found it difficult to focus on the goal of the fast instead of the hunger. In general, how do I teach myself to focus on Jesus instead of the act of fasting?

Could you do a video on "How To Talk, Teach & Interact With Trinitarians/People Who Believe In The Trinity" I've had so many conversations with them as a Oneness Apostolic Christian, but so many try so hard to justify their beliefs with little to no evidence. If they do use scripture or anything they try to insert the idea that the Trinity is there. How can we better approach this topic with them to help win them to truth? Thank you 😊 God bless 💙🙏❤️

Hi, If you have some time, check another video on this channel(one of the first). It is a debate between Br. Bernard and Mister Gene Cook about the Oneness of God. Rich in verses from both sides.
Praise the LORD! Rev. David Bernard…… 9:21
Should also fast from the material things of this world. Be ready and willing to sacrifice because the days ahead will only get worse. Persecution will be upon us soon
Do you have published books for sale in the subject of prayer and fasting,?
I am type one diabetic for 53 years and want to fast and fear going to long without food
I never do fasting myself.

Thank you.

A daily walk with Him in prayer and fasting. We know from His Word that He is aware of our situation. Matthew 10:30-31 Jesus speaking - "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore..." If you have a problem that persists and you are faithfully praying and fasting, you should request prayer at church and/or go to your pastor with the problem. There are also prayer networks available that you can contact. Sorry that I can't think of their names at this time. Even so, I will pray for you that God will touch you if you are in crisis.

Joshua 1:8 and Matthew 6:33. Right positioning with God will save and protect life.
Matthew 16:24,25 “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.”

Would love to ask him, why we do not keep any of the festivals or fast in the Bible. Didn't the apostles keep Passover???

@@jokonorcharisjames2657 is there a scripture for this? The Biblical way to fast is to not eat or drink, or you can not eat food and drink only water. As Bro David said God will honor those that aren't able to do that because of medical reasoning but if you are healthy and functioning you should be able to do a fast without eating anything for 24 hours (At the very least)

@@GJAkuo Daniel Fast was not vegs and beans and such for 21 days. It was a full complete fast according to Hebrew. The Daniel fast is an American fast and not a real fast. Daniel was just making a statement and didn't eat any category of food. He was abstinence from food for 21 days!

Thank You!......... As I recall......... It was a few 'spiritually hungry' outcasts who decided to meet together for prayer and fasting on Azuza St that started this whole neo-Pentecostal, neo-Apostolic, neo-Holiness movement.......The results speak for themselves. Many years ago, prayer and fasting most likely helped prepare me to receive the Holy Ghost....... No doubt you're 'onto something' with this prayer/fasting stuff. Maybe even add some sincere repentance in sackcloth and ashes for some extra humility........ (instead of the vain immodest worldly business suits and clean-shaven faces the UPCI is so addicted to). The more you control your flesh........... the less your flesh controls you.
@GJAkuo

Dude, repentance with sackcloth and ashes was what the pharisees were doing, and what the pharisees were doing was getting attention. N Jesus said when they do that, they’ve gotten their reward already(the attention from man). Also, the UPCI doesnt wear suits when they fast. They can be in normal living clothes and still fast.
@kyeson1360

There is no way you think wearing literal sackcloth and ashes to church is a better idea than suits. We wear that clothing in order to be set apart from the world and give an outward display of reverence towards the sanctuary and the things of God. I believe that it would be a worse thing to show up to the house of the king wearing informal, casual attire. Our attire reflects our attitude towards the house of God and we are showing respect towards holy things in the way that we dress.

@@kyeson1360 You're absolutely right! We don't show enough reverence and respect! We must invest even MORE in our outward appearance! I DEMAND we all wear expensive custom-made tuxedos! I suggest all white, so we look super-duper extra holy! .... Oh we need white gloves too! Bare hands are immodest!.... if you disagree with me, you might be a sinful and UNholy backslider! I suggest YOU Put YOUR crack pipe down and repent! .... DO IT NOW!!! 😇
