Many people asked me to make a video about what's on my shelf. Please like, share and comment on this video. A typical video takes about 15 hours to make (reading the book+writing script+making videos), so any help is really really appreciated.

I absolutely love the cover for your copy of Thus Spoke Zarathustra. I found your channel last night and tried to put it on as white noise to sleep to but I was waaaaay too invested. I wanted to scope out this video to narcissisticaly see what books we have in common before binging your content. I hope your love of these books helps fan the flames of my desire.

Finally, your bookshelf tour! :) I really enjoy your delivery here, and not to mention I noted down some of the titles into my endless wishlist. Also, I'm curious your takes on Thomas Hardy, hopefully you can fit that into your next project, if that's possible. Anyway, thanks for always making great videos.

If you are reading these words, then i just want to speak of these words to you : i am a 16 years old indian boy and i read my first ever book 2 years back , i liked it ,it was a different experience, but i didn't saw literature as an art form as something worth my time but then , i stumbled upon your video " what's literature for?" And my little brain can't perceive how beautiful and impartful it was for me , now my life revolves around literature - the flowers of buffonary to the tale of genji, from the words of tagore to the the winters of russia . My life was incomplete without literature and i was able to find something that most adults only dream of : My passion. I want to be a writer and i started writing seriously 7 months back , when ever i am feeling low about myself i just search " fiction beast " and my heart is filled with the river of fulfillment, i love you and your channel for the deepest seas of my heart , don't stop what you are doing, always remember that your videos had the impact that no one could have ever brought in myself , thank you sir , for being my Socrates or sensi ( what ever you think is more cooler) , I respect and love your work more than anything, bye , just in case i became a famous writer ( i have no intentions of that but just in case) my name is "Garvesh Sharma" . Thank you fiction beast.

Nice bookshelf tour. You could approach Tolstoy through his short stories, novellas and fables. Did you really read Foucault? I mean each sentence, one after the other? Obtuse didn't start to cover his writing!

I read Tolstoy's short storyHow Much Land Does a Man Need. I loved it. I would like to read more of him for sure. I think to have a balanced view of Russian literature, Tolstoy is a must, otherwise Mr Dostoevsky can skew your opinion very easily. Yes, in my uni days, I spent hours on Foucault. Among philosophers, he was like a rockstar for me. I still have deep passion for philosophy but not as radical as in my younger days:)

I enjoyed your tour of world literature but I think that you forgot to mention your stop in Egypt (most probably that would be a kindle stop). I, personally, love Somerset Maugham among the English writers. Did you know that he worked the British Intelligence during WWI. Really impressive feat to have read all those books. God bless.

Thanks, Sharon! Maybe I will do a tour of what i have read on my kindle someday. But i will have to work out how to make it visually presentable. I actually didnt know that. I wonder if Maugham's experience helped his artistic creativity. Today perhaps he would've written spy novels.

@@Fiction_Beast It looks like his literary skills inspired the Intelligence to recruit him. I have just finished reading 'Ashenden', the name given to him by the British Intelligence where he relates some of the cases he was involved in. I will be happy to send it to you if you give me your address. Stay well.

@@Fiction_Beast Thanks for replying, but you really didn't answer my question - why Mongolia? If romantic places is the incentive then why not a place like Amsterdam, Paris, and especially Venice = the most romantic place on earth! Especially during sunset. Or Santorini, which will blow your mind when you're standing at the top of the caldera (1400 feet above sea level) and the different colors of blue during sunset. I'm just curious. I would think Mongolia would be harsh living, especially being without indoor pluming. Any consideration of doing videos of what I mentioned? Thanks for replying.

I have read both 'crime and punishment' as well as 'the white tiger'. I don't know how you can compare them with each other! There is nothing 'white' in the white tiger. Everything is either so grey or black that anybody may think how this society is still holding? Shallow characters, filmsy events and a very weak grasp of human psychology and Indian society (perhaps that's the reason of its popularity in the west). As an Indian I remember how much I felt connected with Raskolnikov and all the other characters of the novel even when they were born in a distant land more than 100 years ago than this contemporary hero of our modern times. I will say even Q & A is more honest in its approch on which slumdog millionaire is based. Even Life of Pi is better written novel on India inspite most part of if it set on a boat in midst of an ocean in the company of Bengal tiger 🐅.
