The heavy tripod that I carry during my Himalayan treks every year. I offload it on a mule to carry my backpack but carry the 8-10 kgs camera gear myself. But climbing up and down the mountains is a pain with the camera gear.

The biggest item is a TLR medium format, which contains more metal than necessary and therefore weighs way too much.

When I bought this cart I had only seen it used for audio folks. I got it for use at work (expensed it) and its a godsend for moving around lights, stands, and boxes of random stuff. Plus I stuck a power strip to the underside of the main surface and plug in all the chargers. Then when I get back to the desk or to where ever I am filming in the office, I plug in 1 cable and I am done. With it, my desk area is almost organized.

Totally agree with getting a cart, especially on a seemingly easy talking head shoot I end up bringing breefy tripod, panel LEDS and C Stands and as I'm finding out an additional monitor for the client is becoming essential as they're becoming more and more aware of how they want to look on screen.

Hey! Question for anyone if they can answer. I have been into automotive photography for a little while and I am looking to upgrade some of my gear. I have been rocking a Canon T6 with two kit lenses and the nifty fifty (so a pretty inexpensive setup). I feel like my T6 has a few issues that are holding me back a little bit. The biggest things are the autofocus and frames per second are abysmal! Aside from that it is missing a couple features that would add to convenience such as a flip-out screen. If you were looking to buy a USED camera body for $500-$800, what would you all recommend?

Andrew Renner hey there. I would think about trying to find a Canon 6D. A mark ii if you can find one in your price range, but the original mark i would be fine also. Your canon lenses probably won't work with it though if they're kit lenses made for ef-s. They need to be full frame ef mount. You'll notice the quality difference in your photos immediately. Vastly improved low light performance, less noise. When you say abysmal fps, are you saying so from a video standpoint or photography?

Shaneo 613 FPS in photos. If I am shooting raw, I can do a burst of about 3 photos before the camera has to pause and take a breather for a couple seconds. It is super annoying.

Nice Rock-N-Roller! You've had this same one for a year or two now? Have you found that the Rock-N-Roller carts rust pretty easily? I've used a couple over the last two years and they've rusted pretty quick for me. Some c-stand advice (if anyone sees this), make sure to place the largest foot towards the light/whatever pointing direction. WAY TOO MANY people place the small foot or a gap in the direction and it falls over (sandbag, as Chris suggested is a 😙👌). Sweet gear tho Chris, damn!

Yeah - if you take good care of them they won't rust. Mine isn't yet. Aww thanks man! I kinda wanted to keep this set up simple.

It's like anything I guess. Take it around the world, mountains, snow, skyscrapers, planes, etc it'll get some damage and rust. Signs of hard work (cup half full).

What about us poor folk who are on a budget? I got excited when I bought my glidecam hd 2000! Still need a ton of stuff but little by little my equipment is growing. Next on the list is lighting and more glass.

Some of these items don't cost alot of money. The sandbags, sound blankets and 5-in-1 reflects would all cost under $25.00. All of those are extremely useful!

I can't even begin to explain how many times my 5:1 reflector has saved the day. I literally have two always in my car. Now I just need to get a cart so I'm not making 5 trips on my shoots.

Thank you for the video Chris. Just a question, at what point do you justify to invest money in all this gear, which being upgraded with speed of light and not just rent what you need and bill the client? Also if you don't have a c-stand, it will not look like a professional shoot?

  • @thechrishau

2 things. I HATE RENTING - I value you my time and going to the place to pick things up and drop things off bothers me when I can purchase an item use it for a few years and then sell it for half the value. The frequency of shoots is important. We have enough shoots to justify. Sometimes I rent my gear out personally - so that pays for the item. NOO you don't need a c-stand, but I find them safer and safety is HUGE FOR ME. Sooo that's my two centsss

I was joking about C-stand. It just was funny the way you said, that C-stand will make you look like a professional. On a serious note, it would've been useful if you would have covered the insurance aspect of photography and production as there is still a chance for c-stand to fall and break gear ;)
