Intimidator was a way better name. Thunder Striker isn't bad, but the park already has a "strike/striker" name in the park, which makes both copperhead strike and thunder striker sound unoriginal

Going in 2 days! Can't wait to ride the rollercoasters

Grew up going to Carowinds, haven't been since they tore down Thunder Road. That was my favorite ride. I miss it.

I was there this past weekend, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Got 5 rides on Afterburn, there’s most definitely something wrong with the red train. It was so bad! Blue train was great though!

i think the thunder striker makes it sound less intimidating but the intimidator ,1 was representing someone we honor, 2 its just a better name in general !

Glad to hear the park is staffed, polished and ready to go. One thing you can say about Carowinds is that they will repaint their coasters when needed. If I were in charge I would not put any more money into Vortex.

Do you know what I am going to miss the most about the rename of Intimidator to Thunder Striker? That would be the signature "Gentleman. Start Your Engines" that goes off before the train leaves. I am going to miss it even more on Intimidator 305 at Kings Dominion.

@@TravelGuidesUS That’s great to hear. I have 2 questions for you. First, did Thunder Striker change its trains or are they still they car type trains? Secondly, is there a place to put your phones & wallets at the ride locations like Fury 325? Or should we get a locker?

I'm coming there for my first time ever next month. Yes, during Spring break week and I know that it bad timing lol

Its worse when you go during the festival of music. There are TONS of choir and band groups everywhere so lines are long af. Specifically things like kiddy hawk, woodstock express, goldrusher, fury, and intimidator/thunder striker and you cant really get on much untill 6-7pm because groups arive at like 10 in the morning and don leave untill 5:30-6pm Ik you prib alr went but as ling as you dont go fridays and Saturdays on weeks school is happening it is probably fine

I wish they could have kept the NASCAR theme on Intimidator seeing as how NASCAR’s home base is in Charlotte.

They could have kept the racing theming while still renaming the ride, sort of like how they kept the fight plane theme of Afterburn after renaming it.

I may like kings dominion more from home park bias, and cedar point may be a better park overall, but there’s a special place in my heart for carowinds. It’s just a beautiful mix of charm and genuine quality.

Can’t wait to ride fury this summer

I could see Carowinds getting a B&M Family Wing Coaster in the Camp Snoopy area.

Just stumbled across Carowinds....we have Six Flags here in Atlanta. Given the recent shooting on opening day, umm no thanks. Is it worth the 4 hour drive and what day is good to go during Spring break? Any hotels youd recommend nearby?

I have been to all 3 plenty of times... I prefer Fury over I305. But KD is a better overall park with a better setting and overal lineup.

I'm making my first trip ever to Carowinds this year and was wondering the best time to go for crowds. Of course I'll be avoiding weekends this summer but how about weekends in the spring? Or possibly weekdays in June? Otherwise I may wait 'till fall before their Halloween event.

Do not go untill after the festival of music! There are so many choir and band groups so the lines are very long. Festival of music ends june 1st so weekdays in summer is probably the best bet, probably Wednesdays or thursdays

Im highly doubtful that anything is changing with the theatre and snoopys junction especially since it said "temporarily closed". The theatre needs a renovation to become a decent venue for shows. The train is also pathetically themed and needs love to fit in with camp snoopy. My bet is watch for those to be better themed and renovated and a new coaster behind the playground and woodstock express in the dinos plot to be added as an expansion with maybe a new ride or some meet and greet space like at knotts.

I don't like the new name. Thunder does not strike, and it is a little redundant with Copperhead Strike. I think they could have kept with a Nascar themed name.

Hate the name “Thunder Striker”. Lightning strikes, thunder rumbles. Why not use “Thunder Road”? How about “Speed Trials”, or “Carolina Thunder”?

I was about to suggest Lightning Run or Thunder Run but forgot they already exist. Too many Storm related coaster names. 😂

Me and my sister were planning on riding the carosuel because i have kinda a fear of roller coasters and the only things i rode were kiddy hawk(ouch) Zephyr and the observation tower we never made it to the carosuel bc the park is big and we got lost so we rode Zephyr again instead lol
