Ed McMahon not too long after he started with the Tonight Show (filmed in NY in those days). Bud Collyer was an early radio voice of Superman (and Clark Kent). All real pros, including John Daly. A pleasure to watch intelligent, polite, literate people on TV. I think this episode was in 1967, toward the end of John Daly's run as host.

It was toward the end. The primetime run on CBS would come to an end on September 3 of that year. It would return in first-run syndication the following fall.

@@kevins.butler3402 In the first instance, he seemed a bit more prepared, as Bud Collyer had already been ill for a bit, back in 1967. As for the 1991 incident, he had to step in suddenly when Alex Trebek rushed to the hospital to be with his wife, who was giving birth at the time.

It is interesting how the shows changed over the years. For "To Tell the Truth", Bud Collyer was very affable with a very professional speaking voice. But especially if you watch a bunch of reruns back to back, you notice he was also rather mechanical. When Garry Moore was host, he was also very likeable but introduced a little comedy and meandering here and there. (There were other hosts in later incarnations including even Alex Trebek for awhile.) In 2016 a new, and modified, version of the show has been running and in my opinion it is just awful. I don't know if it is pandering to the "dumbing down of America", or is part of the cause. A voice you heard a lot in these old shows but is often overlooked is that of Johnny Olson, the announcer. He announced this and many other shows and on the final WML episode John Daly had him come out and be introduced on camera.

@@zarabada6125 Looking up Snap Judgment just to see where it fell in this era of shows, it indeed would be the case, because it debuted the same day IGaS was cancelled. So IGaS would not have been a thing when this was aired based on that fact.

Actually, Bud Collyer who was seated, was indeed the oldest. He was born in 1908. Rayburn and Ludden both born in 1917, and McMahon in 1923. Bud only lived three more years after this episode was filmed, dying in 1970. He was only 61 when he passed away.
