Yes and minions are generally proactive whereas spells are mostly reactive

The thing is,the no-minion deck is way better than a spell-only deck. No-minion decks were supported,not spell-only. Hunter had best support for it with the weapon and a hero card,which are off-limits. Thats why i think spells lost - they kinda need other cards to get the decs going@@joshsmith8715

I think minions are better because they can enable more archetypes. The proactive nature of minions makes them more versatile especially when it comes to battlecries.

True there were barely any pure spell decks viable I feel like a more interesting debate is battlecry or deathrattle

I think doing spells vs mininons with both being able to use wapons and locations would be cool, cause both enable both a lot more and a lot of spells are printed with this in mind too (look at weapon rogue), so hopefully u do another vid with minions vs spells both allowed to use locations and weapons :D

Yes! And in general I would love to see more grudge match versions of some of these stipulation videos where they use their experience from last time to cook a little harder for videos where they feel like they missed a trick that would have represented their side better.

There is something to those two genuine, cool dudes just chatting and playing silly decks. I feel this is exactly what Hearthstone was created for, and I‘m here for it. Excellent content.

I think for sure that long form content has definitely been on the rise this year and the last couple. People seem to really enjoy more watching them like tv or a movie, grab some food and throw on a yt vid. Also I think post covid we've really leaned into having something play in the background while we do work or chores or just relax. Me personally have always loved longer videos, specially retrospectives and such.

I associate the longer form videos as deep dives on a particular subject the person is passionate about. I think it started with creators like Jon Bois, DefunctLand, Jenny Nicholson, and SummoningSalt. Its fun to listen to someone who is an expert in this tiny niche field that doesn't really have a metric for credentials. We don't need someone with a PhD in Speedrunning to be interviewed. But you have a point that it is replacing TV, because there is a void for this Niche Content, because it is Niche, but also those old cable channels like History Channel, HGTV, Discovery are all reality shows or just veered off into insanity. Discovery channel used to do shows on theme parks and roller coasters. History Channel used to do shows about casinos and poker, and technology surrounding Las Vegas and water reclamation. People want to see that stuff! There is audience, but people arent making it, so KZread creators are

Rarran the main reason longer vidoes do well, is because a lot of people will have your videos on in the background. Witch means you will get amazing watch time on them. KZread loves good watch time so they get promoted more in the algorithm

Hey raran, I'm a community event organizer in one of the largest unofficial hearthstone discord servers. Some time about 2 years ago we hosted a tournament where the only cards allowed in your deck had to have some kind of random effect to it. (Wizbang and zayle banned). I think if you did the same or similar concept for one of these deck restrictions videos against Eddie that would be super fun to watch. The tournament was super fun so i imagine the 2 of you would have a blast

That “KZread is like a TV” comment is so true. I find that being able to find niche entertainment for video games with fun personalities commenting on it is so much more entertaining than paying so much for multiple streaming services. Great conclusion!

As far as long videos go vs short. I auto play and it seems to select longer videos. I think its KZread algorithm to select videos with more ad potential.

I think the fact we have to create all the old cards that are unusable outside of twist really deterrred me from trying it out

The case with longer videos getting more views is related to people also watching KZread to sleep. If I see a video that's short I'm not watching it, rather watch something longer that'll eventually talk in the background and will let me fall asleep

First time i saw backstage bouncer in some YT vid i thought it was a treasure or something. It looks like a ridiculously good card.

I think minions or spells can be better depending on the sets that are in the format. No Minion Mage was very good when it was meta, same with Questline Hunter. An all Minion deck probably could be pretty good too, but I feel like all spells has a better chance of being good in general just because of that archetype being specifically supported. Maybe if there was a card that said if you have no spells in your deck do something then only minions could work, if that card was worth running.

Spells are way faster, but minions in general are more pro-active. Spells can have huge impact, but very generally, you still want to have a board presence.

Eating octopus is like top tier food, im spanish and its also common here. ( i mean duh its like so close culturarly with portugal)

As someone who mainly watches Hearthstone now, and plays Magic. Spells are more powerful and interesting. The one-off nature means that balance is easier, stats and effects on a minion factor into what can get made. Creatures win games by being bodies and by the static abilities they have, they do enable combos in that way. Creatures are necessary, spells are more fun/can do more. I think Legendary spells are relatively new and it may be the amount of creatures printed, but it seems creatures have more powerful examples of Legendaries than spells do. Or at least memorable ones.

Problem with twist is legit people do not have the collections to play. Hearthstone needs like a monthly "bobs vip pass" or something that gives you access to 10k reusable dust

Can we just point out how good Rarran's Decklists look with 3 warrior decks in the middle of the roster?

Minions are definitely better and the main argument for this is that battlecry effects are just spells with stats stapled on them. As hearthstone pushed their designs forward they found that spell centric gameplay became low interaction and the game became solitaire with extra steps. Instead they leaned towards higher power level cards in the form of minions where half of the power or tempo swing is in battlecry or keyword effects and the other half is in the stats - which leads to more dynamic board states and game variations. Magic did this as well for what it’s worth (I’m still angry about this as a control player), but basically minions are better unless they print stats on spells which is more common in HS compared to mtg- but HS generally seems to reserve those effects for RNG (portal cycle) or conditional summons (whatever that gross scarab taunt card is in Druid) otherwise the cards are terrible. Summon 5 dudes. Summon wisps. Cool. P.S. small thoughts on video times. YT has always prioritized advertising breakpoints and retention within a cohort for recommendations. E.g. League of Legends enthusiast watches 12 minute guide and gets 2 trueview ads. Or sketch comedy channel makes 6 minute video and gets 1 ad (not sure of exact number, for ad breakpoints rn but you get the idea). Basically if a sketch comedy channel wanted to have a 10 minute video, but retention drops within the cohort even by 10% then YT would rather prioritize the higher retention higher ad throughput video. If the comedy channel could create a format where 80% of the cohort watched a two ad 12 minute video YT would give it a similar weight. (Obviously the specifics are always changing, but the key is to think about YT as a platforms goals and what data they can pass back to the recommendation engine as user behavior changes)

9:40 Eddy talks about that "ADHD editing" from Mr. Beast. I see the appeal to catch the attention of doomscrollers, but it’s really not for me. Most Mr. Beast videos feel like cheap tv infomertials. I always feel like I’m getting pummeled by an endless stream of content with no regards to rythm. I had a hard time watching Rarran’s videos at first because his earlier editing was way too snappy. It’s still the case with some of them where it seems like there’s a cut between every other sentence. These videos with other people are lots of fun though, there’s a much more natural flow to them.

There are entire decks for hunter and DH that revolve around not having minions so they are solid decks. I think the only no spell deck is Mage ironically, but thats a minion deck that generates lots of spells.
