    This is why I love KZread. I’m not an hvac tech but I’ve installed dryers before. I’m sitting in a drive thru looking at a condenser and there’s a rusty dryer next to it and I think, “you know I wonder how that works.” Two seconds later and I’m learning. Thanks!

    Brazing vs. Soldering: 3.4.9 JOINT, BRAZED - A gastight joint obtained by the joining of metal parts with alloys which melt at temperatures higher than 800°F (427°C) but less than the melting temperatures of the joined parts. For high pressure refrigerant systems. 3.4.10 JOINT, MECHANICAL - A gastight joint obtained by the joining of metal parts through a positive holding mechanical construction. 3.4.11 JOINT, SOLDERED - A gastight joint obtained by the joining of metal parts with metallic mixtures or alloys which melt at temperatures not exceeding 800°F (427°C) and above 400°F (204°C). For low pressure hydronic systems. 3.4.12 JOINT, WELDED - A gastight joint obtained by the joining of metal parts in the plastic or molten state.

    So, is this whole device considered a consumable?? Doesn't seem like something that could be cleaned without destroying it... Though I guess the hope is that 99% of the time, it has very little to do, and it's mostly just when initially charging a system that there'll be some moisture and/or dirt?? Or... ?? Would be curious to understand more on that... though... I also see that the next video in this playlist is "How Filter Driers Work", so, perhaps I'm about to find out. :)

    There are some you can get for acid burn outs in those situations that require major decontamination, but simply having it on the liquid line is is easier with the lower volume of flow of liquid and immediately helping the metering device from plugging up.

  • @Jason-wc3fh

    Good video. But at 1:33 you said "solder connections"... We don't solder any joint in refrigeration. It's a brazed joint... Much stronger and no acid contamination from paste.

  • @Jason-wc3fh

    @Jason-wc3fh

    3 жыл бұрын

    Because in the end, the liquid refrigeration is actually going to be getting its back pressure from the metering device (which is a very small opening and the liquid refrigerant is really not flowing that fast with a lot of volume on a standard residential system). Also, If you notice the size of the filter dryer, it's much larger than the liquid line it's serving. So with all the surface area for the refrigerant to pass around the entire outside circumference, this offsets any pressure drop through the fine filtering material and allows it to come out the end without issue.
