What’s in my Bag? | 2017 Summer Edition from Kinnaur

Фильм және анимация

Let’s take a look into my backpack and see what I’m carrying on this autumn trip to Kinnaur. Forgive the audio as it was a bit windy and after the 8min mark my mic fell off and I had to boost the audio levels in post. Please feel free to ask me any questions about my gear and I will answer them here.
Most of these items were bought on the Amazon US store. Thanks to my friends and family in the US who were kind enough to carry them for me. If you are in the US you can shop for these items from my Amazon shopping list and I’ll get a small commission in return.

    Most of my family is former Indian military, I have been under the impression for most of my life that civilians are soft people(no offense meant,😁), but you my friend are one tough one taking it to an extreme level !Facing -30 at Tsomoriri,carrying 30kgs on a solo multiday hike ?!?! I am simply speechless to your efforts!!

    Lol, thanks. Naa.. I’m not as tough as you might think. I take very calculated risks and winter is definitely no big deal as long as you are properly equipped. I prefer -30 to +45C anyday 🙂

    They are monetised. Maybe you have your ad blocker on 🙂. Anyway, I make less than 20$ a month with the ads. It’s almost not worth it to turn them on, but then I’m afraid that Google’s algorithms would penalise my videos for not showing ads.

    Absolutely fantastic Saravana! Keep the fire burning. Few other things that i carry during treks that you may want to consider if not already in your bag which weighs not more than 250 Gm :) 1. light weight solar light or head torch or in your case the mobile phone helps but it does not have long range of light 2. Flint - Just in case you run out of fuel or stove breakdown 3. Nylon thread/rope, very helpful in many occasions, especially in windy weather to tie the tent or camera equipment 4. Housewife kit - again very help full if something needs to be stitched 5. Quick fix and M-seal

  • @indiainmotion

    @indiainmotion

    6 жыл бұрын

    Those are some good suggestions. But I'm sure they'll all together run up to more than 250g. A headlamp is definitely necessary. Especially on this trip. More than a few times I've walked back to my tent after having dinner with the shepherds. Under a moonless sky terrified that my phone's battery would die on me. I gave away my headlamp at the end of my Spiti trip last winter and haven't gotten around to getting a replacement. The other things I've carried around at one point or other and haven't found much use for them. Someone should make a flint key chain with a nylon braided handle. I'll definitely buy that.

    Thanks for unpacking video, i was wondering about it. And you already made it.....I like your determination sir. You are living a real life..... Himalayas are beautiful than even Alps. People should explore Spiti and Kinnaur to see a real heaven on earth. It's daring and adventurous, and you are doing it alone, that's unique and best thing.........Wish you good luck for your upcoming day's ahead. You deserve something better, but i think to explore these kind of places and living a life of one's dream in Himalayas is a reward itself.....keep going man !!

    Thank you Shaurya. You are right, the joy of exploration is a reward in its own right. That's why I left my comfortable life in Bangalore to do this. Btw, all mountains, the Alps, the Rockies, the Altai, the Himalaya have their own beauty and it is not really fair to say one is more beautiful than the other. The real beauty when you visit these places is what you discover within yourself.

    My winter gear is also similar, expect for a better sleeping bag (North Face Inferno -30) and more layers. My tent, stove and mattress remains the same. I also lighten my load during winters by leaving behind the slider and a few other items. Reliance Jio is everywhere in Kinnaur. It is available till Spillow I believe, so connectivity is much better here than in Ladakh or Spiti. I don’t carry any safety equipment. I figure that the wild animals, if any would be more scared of me than Iam of them. The only animals I’m worried about are the Feral dogs in Ladakh. They can be quite vicious and I take care to avoid them. Or carry an ice axe in my hand to fight/scare them off. As far as I know, most animals are afraid of metallic sounds. So my plan is to clang the ice axe against some rocks to scare them off.

I'm sure that the results will show in time as long as I keep putting in the same effort as I do know. The road will be long and hard but like the cliche goes, it's all about the journey not the destination.

    I don't think it is available in Kinnaur, Spiti and even in Kullu area. Otherwise the locals will be out looking for it. I have only seen it in Uttarakhand. And even there I believe that it is illegal to sell it (not sure).
