What’s in my 125 Gallon African Cichlid Aquarium?

Predator haps are a group of cichlid fish native to Lake Malawi, which is located in East Africa. These fish are known for their aggressive behavior and predatory instincts, and are popular among aquarium hobbyists for their bold colors and striking patterns.
There are many different species of predator haps found in Lake Malawi, including the Electric Blue Hap, the Aristochromis Christyi and the Buccochromis Lepturs Green. These fish are typically quite large, growing up to a foot in length in some cases. They are carnivorous, and in the wild they feed on smaller fish and invertebrates.
In the aquarium, predator haps can be kept with other peaceful cichlid species, as long as there is enough space for each fish to establish its own territory. They are generally considered to be easy to care for, but they do require a large tank and a high-quality diet to thrive. It's important to research the specific care requirements of the particular species of predator hap you are interested in keeping before adding them to your aquarium.

Hey, gus, you have really nice specimens in your tank. Awesome. I have been keeping africans for over 45 years and have one of my tanks filled up almost identical to yours some of the one's you have and some different one's funny how we had the same idea even with minimal amount of rocks. That one you have is a blue regal cobue for sure. I have one too maybe a little bigger but mine is a killer literally i have him all alone in a tank to himself didn't want to rehome him he's a show caliber fish but doesn't play well with others. Well, I just found you're podcast and i am going to subscribe to support a fellow african chiclid keeper and to keep up on what you're doing. Later, brother.

I’ve been following the series when it was malawi trout grow out part 1-5 I loved that fish! I’m sorry to have learned last week when you announced it passed. I was curious as to what happened to the rhoadesii? That fish was absolutely epic !!

Many thanks for the comment. Can’t believe it’s been almost two years since I made that first Malawi Trout video. I loved that fish too. Thanks for asking about the Rhoadesii. He passed away over a year ago. I only had him for 3 months. He stopped eating one day and was gone two weeks later. Really strange and was sad when he died. He looked like a great white shark cruising around in there.

Looking for advice, historically I’ve kept pretty lightly stocked tanks, so… Would 20 fish in a 125 be too many? Keeping peacocks and common haps with the biggest being a borleyi which should max at around 8”
