Unloading that sand looks like a lot of work. I bet importing a screw conveyor would be a fantastic idea, plus you could use it for unloading other bulk materials. Assuming importing stuff is feasible and unloading boats isn't a government monopoly. For example: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6Nn09mDZLe-eZc.html

Hi Charles, yes that would be a useful bit of kit to speed the job up. There's no monopoly on unloading that type of boat. The staff that unlode the sand will likely get about $2 a day for a 9 hour day.

@@passivenomads Oh wow, I knew wages were that low in Toliara for unskilled work, but I thought they'd be a bit higher at Madagascar's tourism center for hard labor. Never mind then, at $10 to unload a ship (assuming 5 worker-shifts per ship) that's not a lot of revenue for a multi-thousand dollar investment. I was assuming it'd cost at least $100 to unload one of those things!

@@chx1618 yes that's the problem in Madagascar the staff get such low pay it's not worth bringing in expensive equipment like chain saws, JCB's mini diggers etc as the guys can do the job with an shovel for $2. The chinese in toliara pay $1.20 a day to build the roads to the guys.

Very interesting to see Nosy Be life! Question: would it be possible to work as a digital nomad making clear phone calls to Europe from there? I don’t mind to spend good money on the best wifi or 4G sim. Thanks for your feedback. I have subscribed to your channel. I am currently in South East Asia but Madagascar seems fascinating and with lots of opportunities

@@passivenomads I have seen them unloading sand from a boat at the hotel fourmi, and I asked my girlfriend there where they get it from, but she didn't know. She was at the Somaroho concert too.
