Totally! Wine that you’ll just use for cooking (not necessarily drinking) is great to freeze and there’s no better feeling than knowing you don’t have to buy a $10 bottle for one recipe or open a whole bottle just for a quarter cup.

@@MaritaCovarrubias01 I think it has to do with the alcohol content. Wine generally won't freeze unless the temp is negative 22 F; most standard freezers are around zero F. The lower the alcohol content, though, the easier it will be to freeze.

When you make anything whether it's burgers or Salisbury steak patties, etc. Poke (not all the way through the patty) 3 holes into your mixture and they will not shrink and you have a very juicy and delicious burger or what have you. I'm a chef and this works everytime.

A good hack for buying wine to cook with is buy the Sutter home small bottles that come in little packs of 4 because you can just use as much as you need and then you have fresh unopened wine for other recipes. Otherwise an open bottle of wine is only good in the fridge for about a week.

Capers are tangy. While they don’t taste exactly like pickles, that’s the best description. They are excellent with Mediterranean style dishes. They add a bite and a brightness to dishes that use butter, wine/lemon juice, garlic and herb sauces. I’d recommend trying them next time, but using half what the recipe called for in case you’re not a fan. Their flavor won’t be as strong that way. You can always pick them out. For the wine, use smaller bottles that a good for about 2 glasses. Gallo and Sutter Home are two brands that I can think of. Put the cap or cork back on the bottle and refrigerate. It should last about a week.

Capers add a gentle briney flavor - even my kid who hates everything likes capers. a tip for leftover wine. I freeze mine in freezer molds that hold 2 tablespoons (roughly the size of an ice cube tray). whenever a recipe calls for a little wine, I toss in a cube or two. works great!

We were moving from far away and didn't have any of our stuff moved yet, so no furniture, but we were actually excited to have frozen pizza because our oven in our old house and been out of commission for at least 6 months and we knew we didn't want to buy a new one since we were moving soon and our new house might have a stove already(which it did). So, although it was only frozen pizza, we made a fun little picnic out of it! Amen to that Ky chili. Fellow Kentuckian here and it’s not chili without spaghetti noodles. Just had it last night with a pb sandwich…nothing better!! ❤❤

Never in my life have I seen spaghetti noodles inside chili! I have heard of people using the chili like you would a pasta sauce and put it on top of spaghetti before though. Learn something new every day! lol

You will find it a lot easier to mix up brown gravy lump free if you start with cold water. It’s the heat that makes it thicken, so if you add the powder to hot water it “thickens” immediately into clumps.

I can see why using spaghetti noodles in chili. I live in TX and I grew up eating chili with either cornbread and/or Fritos corn chips. Either way, chili is always good year round 😊
