What's a War Nickel? Metal Detecting a "Hunted Out" Park

I try metal detecting at a park that I know has been hunted a lot before. It turns out there are still some good finds there; it just takes some patience and persistence (and a willingness to dig a lot of trash!). I hope you enjoy the video. I was running my typical settings on the Teknetics Patriot, with the SPEED set to SL instead of dE.

Thanks for watching. I would love to try metal detecting there in the UK someday... Here in the Pacific Northwest any coin from before 1900 is considered old. For you in the UK they can go back a lot further!

What do you do with what you found, particularly the coins which aren’t special?

Good question... I put any old or interesting coins in a coin folder labeled with the date and location of the find. These aren't necessarily valuable, but they have a lot of meaning for me since I found them. For the other modern coins, I just toss them in a jar. I think I'm up to around $150 or so... Someday I'll take them to the bank to cash in and probably just use the proceeds to buy more metal detecting gear, haha. 😊
