The war in Myanmar is really intense right now. They are calling up children of 8 years old. I live in Thailand with my Myanmar partner. She was once a child soldier. We will bring her 11 year old relative to live with us. This world is really in pain. People lack humanity and integrity.

@@louieberg2942The First Past the Post electoral system= that just like in the USA, there are ony two parties with a chance to govern, and a lot of people's votes actually do not count. Then, there is the fact the constitution is not written, so too much is lfet to interpretation or precedents. Then, practically all politicians come from the same shallow pool in terms of where they went to school/uni and they feel entitled (especially on the tory side) and do not care for "little people". Then there is a culture of deference to "our betters", and that means politicians are not always scrutinised and challenged. Then there is the fact that most press is owned by Rupert Murdoch and very biased aand influential. Then we have the fact that the house of Commons is elected, but the house of lords is not. Some are hereditary peers. Some get to be lords/ladies through merits, some are plonked there by the parties and there has been quite a few recent scandals (Lady Mone and Paula Vennells). You would need to change the electoral system and the monarchy to elect a president in the UK. It's absolutely doable but needs a new constitution and enough people who want that as a solution. For now it's how the system is and you have to vote for the available parties or organize the change you want. There must be others who are in your shoes. It won't happen if no one is doing anything about it.

Well, here we have black and brown people in positions of great power who were put there by virtue of a right wing party, (not Dianne of course), trying to appear relevant to our beautifully diverse country. In the end, those black and brown people must tow that party line to remain in power. Therefore, it was never "power" at all. Thus, Internalised Racism. Sick to my stomach.

Are travellers a different race to the white population? I think what Diane was poorly articulating is that Black people can be discriminated against by the white majority based on their race but travellers can not be discriminated against by the white majority based on race because they are part of the white race too. So the discrimination happens for a different reason. That reason is just as unacceptable but it’s different.

The West has already won (-ish). Even if Ukraine doesn't drive the Russian attackers out or should fall completely, much of the rest of the West is more unified against Putin's Russia than in the past forty years. Russia has lost a generation of young men to the war and by having fled the country and is more of a failed state than ever. And NATO has new members and many of the countries in NATO are increasing their military spending and force readiness.

Here's another kicker: a percentage of those kids were likely ALSO dealing with an underlying and undiscovered process (such as Asperger's). Such students would have an even more elevated level of risk as adults.
