WHAT PAIR ROWING IS LIKE IN A RACE

As we get back into pair rowing I thought I would talk a little bit about the pair and what it is like in an actual race! Roped in special guest erg champion Adam Neill for this one too!! Adam and I rowed a pair together in the 2016 and 2017 season so we know what it is like to race in the pair together!!
Do you find there are other parts of a pair you like?

Interesting Cameron….83 yr old sculler/rower here….I am going to try pairing for first time with a lady circa 50 who is technically good in sweep etc. I cant wait…..and your advice supports what I anticipated as being important…thanks. I thought you had retired…but Diamonds showed otherwise, ..glad to see that!! Great videos as always!

The way I see it, the pair is basically a single scull with one half of the brain in the bow and the other half in the stern. Getting the two halves synchronised is the challenge. Practice practice practice!!!

That's a great way of putting it Jim! If one half fails to work the other will struggle!

How does your application of power change from boat to boat? Anecdotally, if found the the pair requires more of a "squeeze" in the power, as it needs some more finesse, but sitting in the middle of an 8 is more of an "in and on" kind of deal - really load up the blade at the front end.
