What Paint Roller is Best (in our limited opinion)

After going through around 500L of paint. Including water based metal etch, wood primers & topcoats, then oil based etchs, sealers and topcoats and finally two pack epoxies for steel, water tanks and top coats, we give you a quick run down of options for rollers and why we use certain types

As a runner who is training for a marathon, these foam rollers kzread.infoUgkx9XSsjzA4f84VmhBCHlyhec7XILIxennL are really good for sore and tight muscles. This one is a good size (mine is the purple, 36 inches) not too big but big enough to work and roll both my legs at the same time - I took a photo holding the roller next to me just to provide a better representation of its size. I noticed some reviewers who complained that this is, “just a foam noodle”… and yes, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a high density foam roller. It is absolutely NOT the same consistency/strength/durability/ or texture as a ‘pool noodle’ thought and I disagree entirely with those that say so. As a former collegiate athlete and marathon runner, I’m comfortably giving this roller 5 stars. It’s lightweight and durable and does just what I need it to do at a budget-friendly price. Overall, I have no complaints and am happy with it!

with those fluffy rollers (both, but particularly the microfiber) you're supposed to wash them in water before first use. they're full of loose fibre from the manufacturing process, and washing them gets rid of that. have a good go at your roller with a painters tool under running water if you have one. if not just take your time using your fingers to work the fluff out.

Super helpful as I've been painting rooms and the doors and windows. The metal windows were going to be a drama as I tried the spray gun twice for cupboards and windows etc and what a pain and a bloody disaster! To say I had limited success with two spray guns is an understatement. I'm better with rollers and this vid solved my window painting issue and in less time and less drama I got the windows finished and they look great! Those smooth spongy rollers are fantastic. I bought those other ones for the door trim aswell 👍

If you get the paint down.. then roll it slowly (so you don’t pull up a lot of bubbles on the surface) in one direction (vertical direction on a wall), using a lite touch you can achieve a pretty amazing finish. In addition, make sure the paint is not too thick, a lot of people think it doesn’t matters when you’re rolling paint but it really does. Also adding a little oil/turpentine will help to get the paint to flow out and lay down.. that is of course if you’re using an oil base paint, there are flow control additives for acrylic too... she’s an amazing project keep up the good work!

Thanks Dave. We mostly use oil based single packs but every now and then use 2 pac epoxies where needed. I’m still a complete novice with rolling so learning with every job we tackle.

Good quality foam would give the best finish but you could roll and tip using a foam roller and good quality brush. This is tipping. kzread.info/dash/bejne/foSas82nfrfKmqw.html

8 years late... I literally just did my first dec job in my bathroom... and I had two rollers, which in this vid were the first two types. Wallpaper is slightly textured. Kinda bobbly patterned gently knobbly pattern stuff (not rice paper stuff). I used a brush to edge... the the first spongey roller to coat the whole thing, then that second fluffy type to do the second coat. I needed a 3rd coat as it was white Silk paint and looked a little streaky. So the 3rd coat was using the first roller, the spongey one. Turned out solid for my first decorating job.

We only use the yellow strip roller for small jobs which we call a medi as the look like a medical product . For bigger jobs we use a 22mm sheep’s wool roller . Thin the paint for a better finish . But when its an industrial coating you want thickness . We paint navel ships . Structural steel , Sports stadiums , light towers and container cranes . More expensive medi rollers last longer without falling apart .

If you use them radiator roller sleaves for glossing which is oil based and doing small areas you wont pro dec ice fusion.. there brillant iv just use these for glossing a small bathroom and the finish you great is brillant the downside they dont hold a lot of paint but you do get a superb finish. Great review.

I would think a fluffy roller as foam doesn’t carry much paint to would take many coats to get a solid colour. Fluffy would need less coats as each layer would be thicker
