As an American, one of the main things Everton are known for here in the US is basically saving the career of Tim Howard (after a mediocre stint at Man United) who played at Everton from 2007-2016. During his time at Everton, Howard became one of the best keepers the US has ever produced & was a big reason why they punched above their weight during the David Moyes years. It is a shame that Everton have basically fallen apart since Howard left the club. A quick note on Howard after he left Everton, he went to MLS side Colorado Rapids for 3 seasons to end his career. However he only made the playoffs once during that stint (due to Stan Kroenke refusing to invest in the Rapids which deserves its own What on Earth is Going On video) which in a league like MLS where over half the teams make the playoffs is quite embarrassing.

Everton have had a few American players, notably Brian McBride and Landon Donovan. Also Sylvester Stallone is apparently a fan.

It's honestly kind of annoying as an Everton fan how we're getting so much faux-support as a proxy for people to say "well what about City?". Thanks for pointing that out.

The northern clubs have often been good for that. It is unrelated, but when you go back and look at the old Cup finals and so on, there is always a large number of Scots. But yeah, at Everton, Graeme Sharpe, Andy Grey, Duncan Ferguson and Pat Nevin spring to mind.@@adampark4238

As an American Toffee, I appreciate the deep dive. I haven’t been able to say it in years but I think we have the right man at the wheel and actually have a talented, young squad

The monetary mismanagement has been truly dreadful and I'm not exactly hopeful in regards to the hopeful owners-to-be. I'm honestly not entirely convinced we're staying up if the full 10 point deduction sticks, either. If Luton had pulled off that win against Arsenal, we would really be up a creek without a paddle considering the run of fixtures we're on. It's basically up to their performance if we need to make up 45 or 55 points, because I'm fairly confident they'll beat Sheffield and probably Burnley, too.

to be fair it's still early and we don't know yet. Bournemouth looked dead and buried last season and made it out. Could happen again with any team, even Sheff Utd. And someone can still sink, maybe a Forest or a Wolves, who knows. Injuries can happen etc. But I do feel like Everton will stay up, they have not been that bad

Shocking penalty by Onana!! It was a crunching game and we struggle against Fulham. Back to the league we go!

One thing I think should have been mentioned is the nature of Everton's loss to Villareal. We had a perfectly good goal dissallowed by a referee who had been asked to come out of retirement to referee the match for some reason, and there has been no reason provided to this day behind the goal being dissallowed. None of the assistants, no one who saw it, not even the villareal players thought it should have been dissallowed, yet for some reason it was, and it if had stood and the scores held, everton would have won the tie on away goals.

@@thethomascobbgroup5001Everton had come back to bring the tie to 3-2 behind on aggregate in Spain when what would have been an equalising goal was wrongly disallowed by reknowned referee Pierluigi Collina. Collina had ruled that an Everton player was pulling a shirt, when video clearly showed no foul. This would be Collina's last officiating performance at a competetive match. The goal Villarreal scored to make it 4-2 was a breakaway at the end of the game as Everton were chasing it out of desperation. Game state is important, as is knowledge of the events being referred to. Otherwise you run the risk of looking like you are commentating on something you have no clue about.

While you mentioned about Everton's incredible downfall, you might realize that there is much worse situation in Brazillian Football. Santos, one of the most successful club in the country, came from enduring the golden periods under the likes of Pele and Neymar, with countless amount of trophies, preferably the Copa Libertadores, to getting relegated from the top-tier football for the first time, only 341 days after the death of O Rei. Also, clubs like Lyon and Basel were still fighting for the survival after a dreadful form, with Lyon had just sacked Fabio Grosso as a manager.

Santos have been a mess for the past 5 years like many clubs since the laws changed and intentional companys buying clubs. In 2020 they lost majority of thete youth players and alot of first team players because they hadn't been paying them which basically led to this downfall but since 2014 the team has been losing players cause of massive debts which is a recurring theme in south American football (river plate etc)

You can make a video about the upcoming collapse of Iranian football. Ever since the failure in the 2022 World Cup, Iranian football appears to be suffering from a hidden crisis due to politics, economics and religious issues combined. However, Iran has been able to cover up the crisis so well by selecting and playing against weaker and less competitive opponents, but this cover appears to be fracturing after Iran suffered a shock 2-2 comeback against Uzbekistan in WCQ and the Iranian side appears to be struggling to find replacements due to increasing regime control of dissents and their distrusts on footballers moving abroad.

Yeah the assessment of the fans and of the wider football media after the summer was quite different. The media thought we were relegation fodder. On the other hand Everton fans were optimistic (a change from usual), pointing out that we had the strongest and best-balanced 1st XI in a while. The only major worry was its thinnness. This is still true btw, we are a couple of big injuries away from real trouble. We could, no exaggeration, do with 5-10 more bodies of EPL or near-EPL level. If there was ever a time for U21 players to seize the moment, this is it.

This has to be one of the top 3 football documentary/video article channels BY FAR!! Been watching for a couple years now and am always happy whenever there’s a new vid. Also appreciate your sense of humour and political commentary.

oh god i like this channel, i don't think i can take yet more mud being thrown at the club i have the misfortune of supporting. UPDATE: Good video, fair in its criticism. I never did like the whole 'PL is corrupt' angle. The anger should be vented towards Moshiri. It just sucks supporting the club. -I hate the current owner -hate the prospective new ones -hate the terrible players we signed -hate the fact that seemingly ours are the only crimes that are worth punishing -hate this idea that we were supposed to be content with being 'plucky little Everton punching above their weight' (after being, as Alfie very rightly pointed out, being one of the best clubs in Europe less than 20 years before Moyes rocked up). We tried the 'Brighton model' for years before it was fashionable and couldn't quite break the glass ceiling - were we meant to just be content as also-rans? In my entire lifetime of supporting the club (born 1994, I don't remember the FA cup win) there have been 2 genuinely happy seasons: 2004/5 and 2013/14. Miserable.

We got relegated (relatively) not that long ago and spent 2 seasons in the championship and only got promoted back thru the play offs and only JUST... It's been a difficult road back and we are only just now starting to make headway again. Used to say to myself "Villa are to big a club to go down" but it happened... But in having said that it's not the end of the world haha - you guys have pulled off the great escape twice and it's still before Xmas so still plenty of time 😁

I'm an American who's been supporting Everton since 2000 which was when Walter Smith was managing. Clearly not a glory hunter and haven't seen us win one piece of silverware in those 23 years.

Spurs v Everton as a financial comparison: Spuds had double our revenue twenty odd years ago. For all the complaints from some Spurs fans about Daniel Levy, he had the club invest money in things that returned revenue to the club. At the same time, Kenwright was selling off all Everton's "assets" in the club shop; catering; ticket sales, anything he could to raise revenue. Which was sadly needed at the time, but also was an indication that our finances were poor. After that, we ran about even, which let's face it, IS HOW A CLUB SHOULD BE RUN. But that means that we needed to consistently outperform our financial clout to be top 7, which is pretty impossible to sustain. I was strongly opposed to us getting a sugar daddy, because I had seen Portsmouth and Leeds etc. But if we had one, what we needed was investment from the back end (new stadium, new facilities) and then to use that room to improve on the field. Moshiri seemingly was an idiot, and we've had sporting directors and managers happy to spend staggering sums on absolute drivel, and also employ Frank Lampard. Many Everton fans are indignant. And whilst it's hard not to point at Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle, or PSG further afield for being much worse than we are, we have absolutely broken the rules, and the only reason we didn't gain a sporting advantage is because we're incompetent. We deserve the penalty, and we're very, very lucky it was this season, because I think we'd go under if we went down. It's just that other clubs deserve more serious penalties.

The squad is a lot more balanced. A clear style of play. The Board are being replaced as we speak. The Ownership looks like its about to change. English clubs were banned for five years due to the deaths of Juventus supporters in Heysel Stadium in 1985 UCL final. This ban didn't extend to the national team and youth national teams however. English clubs were reinstated only in 1990 after England cleaned up the hooligan mess.

I think in theese situations where the owners have clearly messedbup the club they should be punished financially by having shares removed. In the case of Everton its us fans who have been depressed and loosing our hair while the owners do not care about the club or what happens to it. To see my club go from threatening the top to relegation battle season after season. Same thing with Chelsea or City or Barcelona.....fans have done nothing wrong and fans have little influence in club all you can do is look at your club burning to the ground. Point detuctions do little to the owners.....it just hurts the fans.

Alfie did seem to ignore this point, which happens to be the point with Evertonians. Not one Evertonian, not one, hasn't said we shouldn't have been punished. But every Evertonian, and pundit, and neutral, across the country has said that the punishment clearly doesn't fit the crime. Not even close. This is why the Premier League, along with it's officiating and VAR, has again brought the game into disrepute with this attempt to make an example out of Everton.

The commission ruled that Everton never gained any sporting advantage during that period so I can't understand a sporting sanction rather than a financial one or a transfer embargo, which may help the club from going into financial meltdown.the club is a massive part of English football history and it's of paramount importance that the clubs supporters don't suffer, when the club needed rebuilding and a new ground it was always going to cost a lot more.

The real issue with Everton and their aspirations to become a Top 6 Club...is that they didn't actually spend enough. After all; Chelsea & Manchester City have had to spend £2+ Billion to become established Top 6 Clubs, which is a lot more than what Everton have spent since 2016 (£700+ Million). And that was mostly in a time when players didn't cost more than £80 Million. That's why they have ended up spending money on players that are no better than Mid-Table...rather than on the likes of Harry Kane for example, a player who would cost £250-300 Million over a 5 year contract (£150-200 Million Transfer Fee + £100 Million in Wages) on their own.

As a Vasco fan that section about 777 really took numbers on my mental well-being. Best of luck to almost everyone involved

One of footballs most historic club and one of the most success domestically you really can't get any more traditional than Everton and without Haysel and the ban on English clubs competing in European competitions you would wonder what more else that they could have won in fact that may well have had a direct impact on their decline in the intervening yesrs and their near relegation from the EPL on a few occasions Everton after all were always one of the big 5 prior to the foundation of the EPL in 1992 but have arguably never recovered from the European ban imposed from 1985-1990 when they were denied the opportunity to showcase their talents

Everton is one of my favourite respective footballing teams ever but I already knew when the takeover by Farhad Moshiri sir happened during late 2010's,the management which was inherited by the then chairman Bill Kenwright sir!!!The ten points which was handed out to them was totally unfair for them despite they signing some dodgy players with high transfer fees but for those fake big teams of more than fourteen years,have been buying their ways to successes and destroyed the true meaning of the sport!!!

in 1977/78 i & 3 other lads - one being Paul Rideout , would scythe off secondary school year 3 during lunch & especially PE lessons cos Paul hated one of the 3 bloke PE Teachers . he could’ve bullied me for being unfit , crap at football & scruffy but never did because in spite of his obvious talent ,he wasn’t cruel & would have a laugh with us geeks 😁

Nottingham Forest for example. I believe for the season 2022/23 (in which they were promoted to the EPL) they bought a lot of players from Bundesliga clubs such as Union Berlin or Mainz 05, afaik.

Watching the video as an everton fan: Terrible to see just how poor we've been run by owners who have 0 connection to football. The premier league is trying to set a president and we are the biggest club they are willing to enforce this on. Will the premier league willingly devalue itself by enforcing these types of punishments on bigger clubs? If the premier league allows for 777 partners to buy the club it shows just how flimsy a ground they stand on to enforce anything when they are allowing clubs to be run by shady owners and literal countries with endless cash.

Because there wasn't a job he wanted more that was available. The lad likes his football and wanted to keep busy. Also, large suitcases full of money.

He was paid a lot of money and given a get out clause to break his contract should a better job opportunity arise - which it did 18 months later when Real Madrid phoned him up. That was Moshiri's last gamble - Ancelotti and a last throw of the dice (including James Rodriguez) to crash European competetion, which would stabilise the club financially. It failed as Rodriguez got injured and we lacked the squad strength to get over the line in the closing stages of the season. At which point Ancelotti was off and the true disaster unfolded.
