I don't understand why prototyping wouldn't be the first step. Every invention I've come up with I was solving a problem in my immediate life, so as a minimum I'd always make low-volume prototypes just to use them myself and let my friends/colleagues try it.

I keep reptiles and I have some ideas for reptile pet products that are nowhere to be found in pet stores or online and would make reptile keeping a bit easier. I have the vision but I'm no engineer. Some of these require electronics. How do I go about making prototypes or finding someone to help me create them?

Try looking at similar products and make assumptions as to if a company could implement your idea. You may not be able to make it yourself, but if you think they could go for it and work on licensing it. - Andrew Krauss, inventRight Co-Founder ( Call, email, book an appointment or request more info about how we can help by visiting us here. inventright.com/contact/ )

What type of research is he talkin about when referring to prototyping. If you have a shop of your own it's absolutely not a big deal. Sometimes a prototype is needed to adjust and get a feel of how practical it is. I do agree with the sentiment about Pattent lawyers unless you get into hot water it's not necessary to have one. It is important to discuss Pattent law with them because it keeps you out of trouble and saves your wallet in the long run. It is extremely true that you have to compensate on a lot of your ideas but modification of the original blueprint is part of the engineering process. Don't be afraid to use more robust materials than the original versions because longer lasting products are an absolute rarity in our current culture.

Hi @anonymouskeys929 , Research i'm talking about is do your market research before making your prototype. Not everyone has their own shop, but if you do that's fantastic. Especially if you enjoy making a prototype. Thanks for the great comments and advice. Good stuff. - Andrew Krauss, inventRight Co-Founder ( Call, email, book an appointment or request more info about how we can help by visiting us here. inventright.com/contact/ )
