I just inherited an 85-year-old house, and my daughter and I will redo the hardwood floors; they desperately need TLC. I had considered staining to tone down the yellow/orange tones, but you've convinced me to skip the stain altogether. I appreciate the journey you shared, and I'm sure I'll watch the rest of your videos.

Oh that is so exciting!! And yes, if you don’t have a strong preference on stain color, that’s the way to go🙌🏼😁 thanks so much for following along and best of luck!!🤍🤞🏼

Respect for you to post HUGE mess ups. Throwing yourself on the sword, and helping others not make same epic and tragic mistakes. The sponge mop just pushed the stain around without actually picking anything up...it was scary to watch sponge mop push around all the wet stain. You are bold adventurers. Enjoyed your video, and confirmed what NOT to do as I refinish my floors. I went with old tried and true rag application and wipe off. Wipe on. Wipe off. Worked great.

Having just finished my own kitchen floors, I was initially like, ohhhh maybe that mop thing would work...because I am still feeling the pain of how much work it was to completely wipe off the excess - it took me 3 hours to do one room with oak floors, one of the worst DIY jobs ever. What I learned while watching youtube prior to my project: "professional floor refinisher" is an extremely loose term. Pouring on the poly is a don't do for most pros. End of the day, looks good and the rest is just greta vidoes and stories!

Did you walk on the floors while the stain was drying and did you clean the floors again before applying the polyurethane?

Once I scrubbed all the excess mineral spirits yes we were able to walk on them no issues! And then I just used a damp rag to wipe them down before testing the top coat. You just don’t want to put a drenched mop on them or anything before the poly!

Your method was correct. The stain wont dry at 43° F. It needs to be 70°F minimum.

Thank you for posting these videos! My husband and I own a Refinishing business and we watch diy Refinishing videos and take a shot every time we see a mistake... Needless to say we were absolutely WASTED. This has to be the absolute worst diy video I've ever seen. It was amazing! It would have been maybe $2,500-$3,500 to have these professionally done.
