👍Everardo. Did all this happen in USA? I’m thinking so. Corrupt. Me? MX. Decades. Rail cars, busses & pickup’s. Thumb out. Riding w/chickens, traveling w/goats. Couple close calls. Takeaway: MX doesn’t pamper citizens. Few safeguards. USA gives pretense of caring w/guardrails, safe railings, unionized measured legal steps. We are overly invested in protecting our morbidly obese citizenry. Consumed w/an entire election about “Where will Caitlyn pee? Of course we’re fleeing. MX engages w/death. Surround’s it w/pageantry. USA is invested - Big Pharma - in belief of deny, defy death. If you die it’s your fault. A nanny state that coddles. I appreciate MX reckoning & celebrating death. Their lack of guardrails, handrails. More honest & life affirming than the crushing pretense of nanny state USA. Yes, MX can seem harsh. We believe Big Pharma, FDA will save. I only hope our southern neighbors just stand up & say “Karma’s a bitch.” The backlash is beginning. We need MX. More than they need us.

Another great video, Jose. I arrived in Mexico May 30th, I'm currently in the east part of Merida living amongst the locals, and I love it. What I love the most is the relaxed, easygoing attitude of people and how it's very family oriented here. No one seems stressed, everyone is chilled. No one bothers you, the police don't bother you, people mind their own business. I could live here for the rest of my life.

How is the heat actually like? I’m debating visiting in October from Playa del Carmen but I hear Merida is like an absolute oven for heat. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the lifestyle there!

@@laurenm5335 Its the same kind of Heat you will find in most tropical places close to the beach. Very Hot and humid during most parts of the year. It is like Miami or Cancun. Always hot and sunny. Things start to cool down a bit during the winter. I would suggest just doing a quick google search and look for yearly weather cycles so you can get more exact numbers. Some people hate the Heat others LOVE it. I personally prefer the heat over the cold that is why i like it here, plus the beach or cenotes are only a short drive away.

My wife and I moved to Mexico a year ago. We do have a steady income stream via a pension so we are extremely fortunate. We live better here then we could ever live in the US. No way could I every retire in the US. The people are great, the culture is great, the food is great, and we feel totally safe and free.

@@ryanbrown8413 I have seen that Costa Rica and Ecuador are also very popular with retirees. I watched several videos about both. We have family in Texas and Mexico so moving to Mexico was the best choice for us.

I'm Mexican living in Los Angeles since 2004. I miss living in Mexico. Life in Mexico is easy and cheap. Mexicans are friendly, polite, and happy... they care about others. Life in Mexico is healthier... in many ways. Los Angeles is getting more and more expensive every day... people are rude and health system is macabre.

Speaking as a Mexican, we can’t generalized, I can reassure you that the majority of people in Mexico are very welcoming,. I leaved in the southern states in the USA, legally and I was discriminated against many many times, however I don’t thinks everyone feels the same

@@JoseArteagaTravels The people but not the government which is ve4y strict if you want to be legal. I hear they are getting more strict on people who are not in Mexico legally and aß more people move there and it Mexico gets more crowded I can see them starting to enforce the laws even more as they should. Too many people not obeying the laws can get out of hand. I'm not going to move there but if I did I would want to do it all legally. I would like to visit Mexico someday when I decide what places to visit. So many choices. I am happy for you that you finally found your happy place. I had to laugh when you described the bounty hunter. I used to watch him. Don't think he is active anymore since his wife died. She was a big part of his show. He is married to someone else now and I think retired so you probably don't have to worry about him anymore.

I'm presently living out of my car in a US city, retired, surviving on SS that's less than $1,000/month. I'll be going back to work part-time to get out of new CC debt due to emergency expenses. I think living the Mexican lifestyle even without plumbing would be a luxury to me. I know how to struggle and survive. Thanks for your candidness and honesty in this video.

If you even remotely love Italian food...go to Dal Baffo....you will be amazed....and do the English bus tour IT will help you understand the city...VERY HARD AT THE BEGINING get it by Santa Maria Parque once a day.....I wish I did it earlier than I did....Map at Book store at the Main Plaza...where all the action is...

@@alainjairamador9313 Yes, I liked Merida, its got a lot to do and see and I'd highly recommend it. However it's too hot to live there so I'm going to look into other parts of Mexico before I decide on moving to a particular spot!

Wow Jose this is one of the most inspiring KZread vids I’ve ever seen. Your issues with law enforcement in the US to making the move to Mexico and finding a much better life it’s very inspiring. And you point out that making the big move and making it successful is all about the mindset. I’m watching from Panglao Island, Philippines where I’m on vacation. MAN!!! I feel the same way about a lot of things in America. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Vet and I love The US but the BS is becoming too stressful. When I'm in Mexico I feel peace. I truly don't even think about being black. I'm just a guy trying to get by. The people in Mexico are super nice or they're busy minding their business. I can't wait to finally move there full time. There are parts of Mexico where theres a lot of black Mexicans due to past history believe it or not. It's interesting because they are a mixed nation as well. There's a lot of different types of mestizos, there are Mexicans mixed with Asian and Filipino as well depending on the part of Mexico you go to.

You feel "at peace" in Mexico because you are clueless as to the reality of everything, whereas in America you can find out everything! If the world economy collapses (and it will) you are just as F'd in Mexico as in the US and maybe even more-so! Mexicans are beginning to despise Americans who settle there! After the money system disappears and you become, you hold your hand out and they will bury you first!

I am not in trouble--financially or legally, but I'm marrying a man from Mexico. We want to live in Mexico half time. He is buying a house there. I love the people and culture. I'm working on learning Spanish. I hope it is a good experience.

You will love it, the weather is better, the food is more natural, the people are warmer, USD goes long way, you feel free, in general that's few of the reasons Mexicans are happy, they enjoy life.

Another good thing is that the dogs in Mexico speak English. In Spanish every vowel is pronounced, thus the word "Lee" would be said as two syllables. If the dogs spoke spanish, the word "woof" would be pronounced as two syllables: wo-of. It is not. The dog say woof as one syllable. This is English they are saying. At the Clinique de Merida, you can get pre-exposure rabies shots. There is a series of three which cost $54 USD each. This $162 compared to like $1,000 in the United States. I got these shots because I ride my bike and there are so many loose dogs. This turned out not to be a problem because in 2,000 miles only a couple of dogs made a half-hearted effort to chase me.

I have a video idea that we think a lot of future retirees would be interested in checking out--including me and my mama.:) We were wondering if you could do a feature on the cost of having live-in assistance for those who are looking to retire in Mexico and/or the cost of a nursing home. As you know, assisted living facilities or nursing homes in the US are extremely expensive and often lack the spirit of care our elders deserve. I've heard that having full-time help to care for an elder in Mexico can average 500-700 a month, but I have not found many videos about that. Again, THANK YOU, for sharing your journey with us. May you and your wife continue to thrive.

That sounds like a great suggestion. My mom was paying $8,000 a month to stay in an assisted living facility in the US and the quality of care was just ok. It was absurd. When she finally went into a nursing home they cleaned her out. It was sad. So anyways I think it would be great for people to consider mexico as an alternative. Their family values and work ethic would seem that you'd get good care.

Lived in chiapas from Sept to March 178 days and I loved it. If you're living in the 🇺🇸 on social security of 1000 or less the poorest state in Mexico chiapas is the place to go. I smoke and I frequent coffee shops I don't drink booze but I drink diet cokes all day and I was living , not surviving on around 700 to 800 USD a month. It can be done and you don't have to budget but you will not live like a king 👌. Wish I could get temp residency but I'm not receiving a big enough pension. I'll have to go for 180 days at a time then start over but first with the cash I saved I'm going to try SE Asia. Just use your common sense and you will be ok. You will not afford Mexico City unless you are living in a big city in the states 😆

Hi I left California in 2016 and bought a home cash in Iowa. Traveling back and forth to both states I realized I hate both states for different reasons. I will be moving to Mexico at the end of the year. Perhaps we can meet for a coffee or taco sometime in the future.

Just new set of perimeters. Started going to Mexico in 1967 Tepic San blas Atacama.was twenty concrete houses .in Atacama It's not the same as then by any means . Major city now or major for me . I've been on the Pacific from USA boarder to Cabo and back north on inside of Mexico to USA border and back to Marina del Rey ..on a thirty five ft sail boat with five people.seven months Then north to lake Washington in WA state .I was twenty five .two year ago I flew in to Puerto Vallarta and moved to old town for six months.For the next five years I did six months a year .I built a small cabin on the mountain behind old town up 1000 ft .no roads just a trail going up the mountain.we packed all the building materials by hand .from concrete to water wood and roofing . Was a hoot .I bought a house in a town to the south east in the high desert.about twelve hours north of Mexico city .two lots and two room concrete house old . bunch Orange trees.ive been back three times .I payed 1420 dollars for .that was seven years ago .I went from pourta Vallarta to Guatemala .went to every major city .Mexico city was more freindly with its twenty plus million folks.the pass we came over to get their took 8 hrs to top and eight to the bottom.if you live your live to see what's around the corner Mexico is beyond awesome .my last trip was done in twenty five days and involved a lot of driving . Don't drive at night on theses mountain roads .you cut your chances of getting in a wreck.are doubled.iam American speak poquito espanol.this last adventure I traveled with my maid her mom who was 84 and her husband .my friends spoke little to none .but we had a adventure going thru the Mayan ruins Olmec ruins . Met a lot of Wonderful people and most were not all but most .best not to go out at night unless your with a few people you can trust .I've lived in San Vicente.los cuntos veranos pourta Vallarta central .but I liked it in old town better ...theirs places you are better to stay out of promise.use common sense. The people make very little money so . You should pay attention.or you will loose your possessions again promise . The cash machines at the banks are better to use than the stand alone machines gain I promise. I got scammed at a cash machine in Cabo San Lucas had a reader I never even knew till I was out of money .number one keep your wallet in your front pocket .don't pack lots cash . You are being watched again promise . I've been from top to bottom and back and forth. It is a third world country but if you play by the rules it can be a great adventure good food and cheap .ps please if the service was excellent tip the same if it was just ok tip accordingly.i ate in a few places that the food was good service great and not expensive..If you get away from the tourist say five blocks things come down in price .again tip . What I noticed and I would find a place I liked the food and I would eat their a lot . Better I tipped more food I received. And the better service I received .I sat with the owners after while . I tip the kitchen mostly. Where the food comes from just my opinion.Smile tip and enjoy the senery.Its big from the mountain on the boarder of bc and was state

I have dreamt of retiring in Mexico since about 40 years ago. I am almost to that age, and these KZreadrs, that you describe, really discouraged me and broke my heart, and had me believing that my lifetime dream to retire in Mexico was done finished. I so appreciate your practical speaking way about it because I never planned to move to some ex-pat community and not live in a regular neighborhood with Mexican neighbors. I speak fluent Spanish. I have a couple family members that live there, and that’s what drives the location. Also, I probably would like a few of the comforts similar to back home too, to be honest.😅

Just got back from the baha me and my girlfriend drove from vancouver to lapaz, brother what a trip it was, we got our 4 year residency temporal, our friends down there have a friend that got us hooked up, man we are so happy to be able to move to mexico now we didnt have to do the embasy root, thankyou for your info about the oportunity to get residency without showing financials etc. We are moving at the end of summer oct or november. In my case I got back to the United States and somehow I just having been licking the system so far, I mean we do it to survive but at the end somehow I see myself always coming back to Mexico, at the same time trying to understand and get better with whatever time I got here. Try to turn your life around.

I moved to Merida. One of the safest cities in Mexico. I live in the suburbs in a private subdivision. I have a 2 bedroom with a large pool. A beautiful enclosed mini paradise. I pay 525.00 utilities are about 125.00. Electric bill every two months about 100.00. Water bill 15.00 and trash bill about 10.00. My monthly income is 2000. I feel safe. I am a black Panamanian who speaks fluent Spanish. A housekeeper can cost you about 25.00 for a 4 hour cleaning. I spend about 12.00 to 15.00 for fresh produce. An uber is about 2.00 to 6.00. I went to the dentist to have two teeth pulled, two office visits and xray was about 75.00

If you are good with cultures and people, you'll do just fine and, also, you can benefit some by the lower cost of living, too. You won't get eaten alive by GREED like getting medical care in the USA.

Im Canadian, and Im starting to be in the same boat, our government is out of control, and corrupted, the price for everything is going through the roof very quickly, I dont like where this society as a whole is heading, it breaks my friggen heart, to suddenly at 54 years old, Im starting to realize the reality of my situation, Im literally being priced OUT of my own country, because of the cost increases, I literally will not be able to retire here. So then I ran across you and these videos, and you seem to be the most "real" out of all of them I watched. I may be in touch very soon.

Too often expectations drive outcomes. MX is like a LSD trip. You just never know. Guaranteed it’ll be fascinating tho. Decades. There was that 1 time too much curiosity “What’s over that next hill?” dropped us right into cartel campo. Flatbeds loaded. Knee’s knocking. Nearly 2 hrs of…getting away. Alive. No more “Roads less traveled.” MX is still, to me, the coolest place on Planet Earth.

So good to find your channel. After exploring Baja a few months in a truck camper I totally get it and appreciate the inspiration and realities of living in Mexico that you have shared. I am really comfortable and drawn to your demeanor and articulation of things we should all consider.

I am planning on going to Mexico very soon. I have been to Puerto Vallarta quite a few times. I stayed there for six weeks after my mother and sister decided to go home. I almost did not come home. I now own a home in a small US town. I plan on retiring in Mexico.

Nice discussion. Most people don't realized that FREEDOM isn't what it used to be in the USA. Many countries are much more free in the USA - it can be like going back in time to a better place in time. They ARE concerned about people's rights in Mexico and they are not trying to drive everyone broke. It's annoying when the "Indians" or "Locals" stage road blocks during elections, but I notice even the police don't really bother them - it's their rights to demonstrate their displeasure.

I married a dual citizen. We are moving there next December but we aren’t expecting better. We are expecting different. I have family we are visiting for extended time this December. We also have the choice of living where ever we want there. We want to learn about the culture and history too. Sure money going a little farther will be nice but that’s not why we are coming. We like the people and the culture. That simple.

Just started collecting SS at 62 and get 1200/month and supplement that with some side work. Been thinking about moving to Mexico to be ready for when I cannot supplement my income. Since I was raised poor and still live pretty frugally, I think living in Mexico would not be a problem for me. From what I saw in another vid, 1200/month is about what an accountant with 10 years of experience gets in Mexico. I don't think there's anyplace I could live in the US for only 1200 per month.

Your emphasis on rights is misplaced, because most of us are visitors to Mexico. The attitude I adopted when I came to Mexico was that I was a guest and that I should be agreeable and kind. I recognize that I will get blessings and that I will get scammed. I've received far more blessings in Mexico. There are lots of personal freedoms here in mexico. I like the fact you can throw your candy wrapper on the ground. Lots of other things you're able to do without criticism or responses from the locals. I took the attitude that I must adapt to Mexico and not the other way around. At first the way people parked on the street cause conflict within me "don't they know how to park.". After a while I realized this is their country, they can park however they want. When I just go along with how they do it, my life is much better. There is great freedom in accepting how other people live, how the bus system works, the procedures in stores, and all the other ways that life is not like it is back home. Orlando Florida. The people here are religious, family-oriented, and hard working. I love to see how many families here do stuff together, like at the zoo today. I love to see all of the dogs running around. Some of them simply sleep on the sidewalk, while others always seem to be walking on some errand. One's eyes get open to things you never thought of. I did not realize how cruel and sadistic dog owners in America are and how much they enjoy cutting the balls of male dogs off. Here that doesn't happen. In America we're always concerned how the condition of the house next door is going to affect the value of our house. We have a HOA mindset ingrained in us. In most of Merida, you see all kinds of houses mixed together in a neighborhood. Some houses are half built while others are nicely finished. There does not appear to be that desire to control the actions of those who live around us. I am fortunate to be in a Mexican neighborhood in East Merida. If I wanted to sit around and talk to Americans, I would have stayed home. I am learning the language but it is hard. It's much better though to be with the Mexican people and their culture than to be back home.

What people think freedom is in Mexico, actually is the absence of the State in many areas of our lives, for the better sometimes, for the worse, extremely worse on others, and I think you’ve perceived it quite well. If your income does not depend on the Mexican economy, Mexico could indeed be a paradise if you choose your living place wisely... I love Mexico to death and it brakes my soul thinking about there’s no solution for our problems, it’s just impossible to work together for the common good, and that’s why we decided to leave for Germany. I miss it every day, but I’m glad that others can have a better life there seeking other things they cannot have at home. Greetings! G.

@@JoseArteagaTravels In Mexico there’s always an authority present, sometimes is the State and on others are strong groups of people filling the voids the State does not want to fill. That’s the issue I was referring to: in the worst case scenario we talk about organised crime, in a benign scenario is just a stupid neighbour that wants to park more vehicles near his house and hence abuse others... But you’re right, perception is singular, and if you are able to found what you’re looking for, things change for the better!

Living in Chihuahua with 2k a month gets us a better lifestyle than 6k a month in Texas. I feel safer here, my kids are in all sorts of sports and activities that I could not afford in Texas, food is better quality and way cheaper including the fact that now we buy organic not processed foods. To each his own but I love Mexico.

Why move to Mexico? My wife grew up there, in Guad. Jalisco It was a different place in the mid fiftys to late 60/s. She loved it but where she once lived on the edge of the city, and rode horses, is now called midtown. Merida is extremely hot. Guad was not. The water was not drinkable then. The police expected bribes. They would stop you and you gave a ten peso bill with your license. You then got a smile and a have a nice day. They had a rented house, rather palatial with 7 servants. That was gradually reduced to one do all.. They had no refrigerator and food was bought everyday. The cook insisted on cooking American dishes. Mexican food was not fitting for people of their status. She claims that combined SS is obviously enuf to live comfortably there. She did speak Spanish. I guess i will learn. Her parents never learned and just hung out with other expats. its a different culture so go with the flow. I would prefer being cared for by A Mexican in my old age, rather than some scurvy low payed American in a rip off Nursing Home. We are not at that stage now. Moving anywhere strange is stressful anyway. So lets plunge into the pool. I would not display conspicuous wealth in any place on earth. Mexico or US. Well, you were on the run? UMMM DOg isnt going after somebody for resisting arrest. That is a fishy story. It does not apply to most expats. She wound up in Miami for many years and she hated it with a passion.

For me, I'm disabled living in the back of a truck in California. I'm looking at checking out Mexico this year. I have lived in south east Asia, I had no problem living in a poor country, not sure if Mexico would be for me, but I'm gonna come see. I met Mexicans in Laos, that liked Laos better. To each their own, no way to know without going there.

Great video and enjoyed hearing about your past. I am a Canadian and living in Manitoba. I'm aiming at moving to Mexico for a variety of reasons in the next couple of years, and need to learn Spanish. The cost of living, winters, and most recent the political corruption, is making it unbearable. Id be excited to move and experience the culture, the food markets as long as I had a clean home that at least has air conditioning. (Lol..I'm Canadian). When I've traveled to Mexico on vacation I just loved it, but do understand living there full time is not just a vacation, but a lifestyle. Just looking to enjoy my life.

Few people tell me they lived in Mexico they’re whole life and it’s a nice place to live they’re wrong. My dad lived there for almost 20yrs and he’s seen many bad things and crimes committed. I been to Mexico twice. Each time I stayed for 2 months in Mexico especially Mexico City. Why do you think Mexico residents are trying to escape to the USA. Am I making sense. Some Mexicans disagree with me.

Agree with you, sadly Mexico through his eyes is not the same through a foreigners eyes. When you stand out and don't exactly blend in, be it color of your skin, nationality, in some areas you are an easy target. People are not just making up being extorted by Mexican police, or being scammed in restaurants or by the lady in the supermarket smearing ketchup on you to have her accomplice snatch your wallet. Mexico is beautiful but, the crime towards non natives does exist and its disappointing. We fron the US are trying to escape the violence only to be met with more of it.

Although I think Merida might be a little hot for me you have been a big help. I just came back from Bucerías just north of Puerto Vallarta for the second time this year. I have an old dog but I am considering wintering down there when he is gone. I understand every word you say and I agree with all of it …about the USA ….about the differences and about the beautiful gracious Mexican people. I left my parents house without notice (I'm 19 as of this day) and bought a ticket a Greyhound and then they found me at Greyhound and forced me to go home with them which is considered kidnapping and then I called the police and the police said "Your parents are trying to protect you." Then the police said "Do you want me to take you to counseling." I said "Yes." Then the police takes me to a Psychiatrist where there were really crazy people then the medicals say "You are in the wrong place." Police in my opinion do not do their job that well.

Well while a lot of these places LOOK rundown & poverty stricken & they very well may be, but like w ppl what matters more is what’s on the inside. Wish I knew how to work for myself down there. I online resell & idk how I’d be able to continue to source or even ship/sell at the volume I’m currently shipping & selling at.

Great video, if you want to live Mexico is a great option, but also, if you want to live the first world life, ie "live like a king", you have to still pay that first world prices. The only thing Mexico gives you is more options, some options that are no longer available in the USA.

Only thing that I'd be scared of is that none of those intersections have stop signs or stop lights!!!! I saw one stop light. The road traveled on at 23;00 in the video has NO stop signs looks like an accident is waiting to happen!! Other than that Mexico looks pretty cool. I'd like to live closer to the coast though. I've been around water my whole life. Even when I lived in the sticks, I lived smack dab in the middle of two rivers. So yeah, closer to the water and preferably a neighborhood that has stop signs!!

Or can I live in M and still collect my SSDI and SSI. I think if that was straight I’d move in a heartbeat! What about Cartels? Cartel Violence? The U.S. makes it sound like M is a war zone! Maybe the Cartels are just bad by the border towns?? In the video it didn’t look like no war zone but things change at night , know what I’m saying?!

I love that truck even though it’s only the hood My first vehicle was a 1982 dodge D150 It had a 225 slant six single barrel Carburetor 4 speed standard shift / I have been watching you for about a year now every since I’ve been thinking about moving abroad I was planning on coming next month but I’m waiting on my passport and hopefully that will be done within the next two months so I’m just taking it easy trying to see what I can I’ll see you soon hopefully before December I like to move there when it’s not so hot I love the heat but I’d rather come in December And get ready for the heat the following summer thank you very much for all your information
