What Naked and Afraid Taught me about JOY- Barefoot Adventure
Hiking 5 miles barefoot on the Big Island of Hawaii while preparing for Naked and Afraid. There were an insane amount of sharp rocks, and this tested my resilience and mental fortitude, unlike any other hike, even Kumano Kodo! While on the journey of adventure, I found myself contemplating anxiety joy, and basking in the wisdom of nature.

I do a 8-10 km barefoot walk most weekends. I find this sets me up mentally for the coming week. The feel of the earths different textures on my bare soles is incredible. I am a firm believer in earthing/grounding and I think that this proves it! Stay happy, stay barefoot 👣

Haha aside from naked and afraid I’ve never hiked naked, but more power to ya!
I'm impressed you made it through all the ah ah, you were committed to your challenge! I visited the Big Island several years ago, I boarded my flight in Canada barefoot with no shoes and stayed barefoot the whole trip. One of the hikes I did took me through a lot of lava rock like this. I almost gave up and turned back, this video reminds me what it was like.
Beautiful video, awesome walking barefoot in the middle of nowhere… it’s pure joy and feeling of freedom, leaving a lot of time and space in our mind for positive thoughts and to be grateful for our accomplishments and future goals and projects. ❤
You're one of the female casts that i really adore. From your episode i found out how tough you are. Stay amazing Sarah. Hope to see more of episodes from you someday. Im a fan.

It's instinctive to slow down to avoid pain and injury to your feet if they're not fully habituated to tough surfaces. However, accepting pain raises our pain threshold, and allowing modest injury helps the feet become stronger.
Nice video!!i living and working barefoot since 2011 !! no shoes no problems!!
Love your videos. Keep them coming!

@@TheJoyfulWarrior That is crazy! But it's the way things work I suppose. Hope your back is much better!! Looking very forward to more videos. I would definitely try a challenge. You did awesome 😁
After some practice, it gradually becomes less and less painful, to the point that it feels like a massage that your feet need from time to time. I twice encountered young adolescent shepherds walking barefoot very easily and fast on silimar terrain.

in many places in the world, people are barefoot most of the time. culture makes such a big difference!
I have watched several videos featuring barefoot hiking and most feature extreme conditions, which is fine. This past summer I discovered the joy of barefoot walking and hiking and have been toughening my feet so I can enjoy hiking barefoot. I would like to do an extreme hike someday, but feet friendly trails are preferred so that I can enjoy the hike from head to toe.

Yea definitely progress slowly. If you hurt your feet you can easily be immobile. It’s a practice of slowing down and being patient 💕

@@TheJoyfulWarrior thank you, Joyful Warrior, for the reply and common sense advice and encouragement. 👣
I know about the search for joy and I think there are often things in our imagination that are totally different than the real life experience and that might lead to confusion and disappointment. 👀

I think there’s ALWAYS a gap between expectation and reality. If I can release expectation I’m definitely more prone to joy
As an amusing side line , once while on a barefoot hike I was able to keep up with others who were well decked out in heavy gear , when some asked if it was a disadvantage to be barefoot , when they saw I was walking normally , it answered the question . Well done you though , awesome video .

So relaxing!
Have you tried running through the rough bits? Our brains are wired to cope better at speed... You are going to fall & pick up more injuries to start with but your brain will learn very quickly how to avoid them when your focus is on the objective not on your feet.

Ha! No not on this surface but I have in easier barefoot areas. Idk if that sounds fun or horrible 😂 but then again that’s what most people say about most things I do so maybe I’ll like it
Why giving yourself a hard time 😮 it ends up costing you a lot of pain and money 💰 🙄
