Thank you for watching my videos! This channel is dedicated to animal education and improving the lives of captive animals.
Here’s little about me!
My name is Meghan Arriola and I live in Texas with my husband Jaime, where I dedicate my time to taking care of exotic and domesticated animals on my farm. We run a rescue and sanctuary for animals like alpacas, birds and reptiles. I do animal education presentations for groups and schools. Our alpacas also do events where we are able to teach people about these unique animals. I have used service dogs for medical needs for over 10 years and I am an advocate for assistance animals and mental health awareness.
I am an animal educator that brings science related ideas to an audience from around the world by presenting fun and interesting topics in a family friendly way. Animals touch our lives in unique ways everyday as simply being our pets and companions, but how can we make their lives equally as special now that they live in captivity? My KZread channel and blog explore ways to meet this goal by tackling things like animal behavior, human-animal relationships and veterinary medicine. Animal science is a great way to teach people of all ages that education is fun and nerdy is cool.
My previous animal related work experience includes working in veterinary clinics, private zoos, training horses and volunteer work in wildlife rehabilitation, rescue/foster/adoption programs and therapeutic horsemanship for children with disabilities.
When I am not working with animals, I am working at the health care clinic owned by my husband Jaime and I, where we provide services to low income, minority neighborhoods. We have been on the frontlines fighting covid19. I also have a passion for art and I am an award winning painter and photographer and published author. I am naturally very introverted but I am extroverted about sharing my passions and doing my part to make the world a better place!

You clearly put alot of time and care in to your dogs diets which is amazing. I've been learning alot about raw lately and the only suggestion I would make is to use stainless steel bowls Instead of plastic because the plastic is porous and can absorb bacteria. Likely wont cause a problem but better safe then sorry ❤

You can try a premade raw food, our buy in bulk... bulk obviously has its discounts and some companies will offer a discount if you feed a certain quantity. We feed our 5 great danes raw and it costs us less than good quality kibble. We pay at max $2 a lb for standard meats (chicken, beef, pork, duck and fish) but usually just over $1... and a little more than $2 a lb for more exotic meats. (And I'm talking in canada so America would be even less) Here, even the lower quality kibble like pedigree are over $1 per lb and my dogs could never retain weight on kibble without over eating... which cost more. A high quality kibble is like $3 per lb... and they maintain a healthy weight, and aren't hungry as often... plus I have less poop to clean up, and I have saved thousands on vet and dental bills. So if you take the time to break it down it is not only cheaper but the benefits are worth alot! Try joining a fb raw group and seeing what others in your area are spending and where they are sourcing their product!

We feed our dog premade patties most of the time, it costs us 60-120 A month depending on what kind of meat (chicken is cheapest, bison & rabbit are more expensive) which is comparable to how much we used to spend on kibble- and he doesn't have any of the same stomach issues!

As long as you get your cuts of meat/bone/AND organ which she doesn’t add to her food, but it’s essential that you do to make the food balanced, from a local clean farm and not the superstore the meat will be fine for your dogs consumption. Although even if you feed your dog meat from the superstore, they will be able to deal with the bacteria without a problem since their digestive systems are equipped for it

Emmaweebler. I’m not against the raw diet, but must say that I almost lost my Boxer from a raw diet which included organs and green tripe, bought from a good reputable outlet. She was very ill. I also knew a lady who’s little dog had trouble digesting the small bone particles, had blood in the stool that resulted in vet visits. I slightly brown my meat in a non stick pan before giving it to my Griffon. I guess raw works well for some, but perhaps, not all. Best wishes.🤗🇳🇿

Wow this is actually super informative! I didn't know they could eat those types of food on a regular basis. I saw that you have chickens, and this is the first video I've watched so I don't know if those chickens are where you're getting the eggs, in which case would make complete sense to feed them to your dogs raw. I think since I have to get mine from the store I'm going to try hard boiling some eggs and see how my pups do! Right now I'm feeding them a commercial raw diet from Answers, but I just noticed that by adding a mixture of rice and butternut squash, they're not eating as much grass outside anymore. So I was beginning to wonder if the rice was actually helping them. Thanks to your video, I don't feel so bad about what I'm feeding them...and I'm even considering some fun healthy treats to add in from time to time. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!!

Good points. Dr Becker does a good review of different foods for dogs, really informative. Have you tried different eggs? If so can you review that with us? I rescue dogs for decades, transition the Chihuahua to more raw and no grains, go small on bone size and no beef. Hold the bone if you have to until the teeth get better and pup learns to use all teeth. All my dogs have been buried with beautiful teeth no matter how little. It also takes time but also brush a massage teeth with coconut oil. Try it, it will pay off. For fast eaters use slow eating bowls or huge plates with food smeared all around and chopped, eventually they learn, and break up foods if you need to. Keep sharing, love your videos. Blessings

This is not meant to be a hate comment. I just want to say that for dogs, feeding them pork and beef is like feeding them chocolate. Also, if you think about it, wolves only live for 3 or 4 years on average because they have a raw diet. I just want people to be aware of what’s good or bad for their pets. If you don’t wanna listen or you are gonna hate on this comment, just remember that this is ONLY my opinion. You’re able to have your own opinion about what to feed your pets, and that’s okay, but I just felt like I needed to put this out there.

This is literally just so stupid. You are allowed to have an INFORMED opinion, not just make up your own facts. Where is the info that beef is like chocolate? What a wild accusation! As for wolves, captive wolves live for 15 to 20 years on average, a much longer lifespan than large breed dogs. And guess what?? Captive raised walves eat ONLY raw meat! So there goes your uninformed theory. Being this ignorant is just laziness on your part.

Nadia Peters, Not all corgis get their tails cut off when they are young. Most are born with no tail it depends on the breed of corgi. There are two breeds of corgis Pembroke Welsh corgis, and Cardigan Welsh corgis! She has cardigan welsh corgis this breed of corgi has long tails. For example, my corgi who is a Pembroke Welsh corgi was born with a short/ no tail. In some instances, people will remove their tails so they won't trip on them when they are herding cattle, not because they think its "cute". So I hope you consider that people aren't as cruel as you believe and you now know the difference between the two types of corgis. Also, if you are in disbelief than go check out an article on google! Sincerely, Me

Mark Harris there is nothing to be concerned about when it comes to the dog as they are built to handle bacteria. As for humans you would want to be cautious when handling raw meat. Some people worry about their raw fed dogs licking peoples faces and giving them salmonella but that wouldn’t be a huge issue unless the person was immunocompromised.

Question for you: I notice that you poke your fork in every bowl food while talking. Isn't there a risk of contamination? Like Caspian being allergic to chicken...poke the fork in the chicken thigh and then in his beef and rice bowl. This is not to be rude, i am just wondering I love the fact that you take so much time to prepare each meal so differently. Your dogs are lucky! For the Chihuahua, why isn't it good for her to eat bones if she has dental problems? I thought that to chew on hard stuff helped getting rid of bad things on dogs teeth. I know you said that each diet needs to fit your own dog, but I am surprise you dont give them much veggies and fruits.

  • @HappyTailsAnimals

It's actually it's a food intolerance and not a real allergy. So it's not like people who are allergic to peanuts and can't eat at places where peanuts may have contaminated the area. I explain more in his allergy video, linked above. Her teeth would brake off if she chewed on bones. Bones can help a dogs teeth stay healthy but her teeth are too damaged at this point to be able to reverse that. My dogs don't really like a lot of fruits and veggies. I give fruits and veggies as snacks to the dogs that do enjoy them. To me it's better to use the supplement that way I'm not struggling with each one being picky.

Plants are NOT a natural part of the canine diet. They only ingest plant matter accidentally while spilling the stomach and intestinal contents of their prey if larger animals or when eating whole such as mice, to induce vomiting or in case of starvation.

Sullen Angel I’m sure she’d also eat candy if you gave it to her, because it’s sweet. Does that mean she should eat candy or that it’s good for her? Had a cat that would HARASS me to share my honey dew melons and cantaloupes with him, especially the juice. Cats as I’m sure you know are obligate carnivores, but that didn’t stop him from demanding chunks of cantaloupes and honeydew melon, especially the juice. Animal ( especially HQ) fat such as cream is also sweet. FAR MORE healthy for humans and dogs than fructose from fruit. Wolves eat grass when their stomachs are upset and or they have intestinal worms ( parasites) it is typically used to induce vomiting. Your dog likely has an upset GI track, she is compelled to self treat, especially if her food contains a lot of grains and other inappropriate foods. When we lived in caveman/ prehistoric times, where were the vegetables? Do you think we grow carrots in the Ice Age? What about broccoli and celery, yams... tomatoes...? Where were our gardens in caveman times? Apples came from the Middle East. What vegetables did we grow in the winter, which in the northern climates is effectively half the year? Yams, corn, tomatoes, potatoes and many other vegetables are originally from South America. Rice is from the Asian Countries, is LOW in nutritional value. Vegetables did NOT even exist in prehistoric/ cave man times... Most didn’t even exist a couple of hundred years ago... Most fruits have also been HEAVILY selectively bred, especially for increased sugar content. Gene splicing has become very common. Google what bananas and watermelons and avocados looked like before we started to selectively breed and genetically modify them through gene splicing. Google what carrots and other vegetables looked like before we began to selectively breed/ gene splice them. Do you think a plant would want you to eat their seeds? Things such as peas, grains and nuts are also the fetuses of plants... do you think plants want us to eat their young? Only a small number of fruits, mostly berries WANT someone to eat them, as they want their offspring to grow as far away from themselves as possible, also their seeds are tiny so unlikely to be damaged by the teeth and require stomach acid of an animal to strip off the coating so that it can absorb water and begin to sprout in a handy pile of animal dung, rich in nutrients.
