As a metal head, I’ll be the first to admit that I was “that metal head” that would shit on Nu Metal because it was the in thing to do at that time and would hide the fact that I still liked those bands of that genre because I didn’t want to be seen as a “poser”. Now, I could care less! It’s what I grew up on and it’s what reminds me of my childhood/teenage years. It’s classic rock of my generation.

We all went through that "Eww, girls" phase and grew up and decided we like what we like! I like stuff fifteen-year-old me would NEVER HAVE ADMITTED TO LIKING. The one principle I stick to is this: Analyze what it is that you like or don't like about something. What this does is two-fold: 1) It breaks down genre barriers and 2) By thinking about music (or anything) in this fashion, you create your own map. I was thinking about this video today at work and thought "I couldn't answer so simplistically" and that is because there isn't one particular band or one particular genre that bugs me. Rather, there are myriad manifestations of a bankrupt culture that annoy me. As an example, it would be easy to say "I hate pop music" but that would be to lump all pop music together, which would be either mentally lazy or disingenuous. I think some of the best songs of the last hundred years (or more!) are "pop". So some deeper digging is required. As to your "Nu-Metal" deal: Well, right off the bat there's problems because, leaving aside the purists who say that Nu-Metal is not what literally everybody said was Nu-Metal, it's an umbrella label. It includes Linkin Park and KORN. I don't see the similarity. When I think Nu-Metal, the first band I think of is P.O.D. That shit sounded so new when it came out. I thought it was cheesy then, and I suppose it's cheesy now. But sonically, that was Phil Specter level. To me, that still sounds modern. But back to the original point, I think there is value in always asking oneself "What about this do I like?" and "Why?" Being analytical, contrary to the popular bad press, is actually very liberating. You might even catch yourself liking a COUNTRY SONG! The skies are limitless if you shed all that pointless weight of "what other people think of you".

I guess I'm a purist when it comes to my metal.

Finn hates "soulful" music? I would understand if he said "Soul" music, but I would like to hear what he considers the difference. I've heard plenty of music that had no soul in it, and that's part of what made it sound terrible. Any genre can have soul in it, and the artists that he mentioned basically are soul/jazz artists. Did he just mean to say Soul instead of soulful? I feel like Finn wouldn't make that mistake though

1:26 I played a bard in D&D, but it had some quirks. He only played a magically powered electric guitar and invented death metal, he would create a mosh pit equivalent in bars constant of rabid table dancing, & he would make a name for himself by performing for the king, who had a heart attack during the first song because it was too exciting. Anyway, my bard gets hired into a band of adventurers to slay a dragon, and when the band arrives, they ask the bard to play some of his best music to make the lazy dragon go from loafing to sleeping. These guys had no idea the bard played death metal, so he shredded, and the dragon sat up and stared at the bard. He said “You. Come over here. I have a gift for you.” The dragon are and burned the adventure party, and gave a blessing to the bard along with financial compensation and the location of another dragon whom he wants to hear the bard.

Did Primus write the South Park theme tune? Or was it a parody of a Primus song? It is very windy in Manchester, so Liam possibly wore them for pragmatic reasons. In fact I owned one when I lived there, and I remember an occasion when I was wearing it in Soho in London, and my fashion choice was mocked by a gay guy.

Jazz is overly complex with little reward. So i appreciate more than i find it enjoyable to listen. Jazz is math when its done right. So its both over rated and under rated. Its more fun to look at the sheet music.

They're just alright and appeal to a lot of people, the music itself is in no way amazing. It's perfectly fine, nothing to dislike and also nothing to love. I think that's a fair assessment of them anyway
