Gracias para este video sobre Roma porque como un extranjero de Inglaterra, me dío una perspectiva sobre México que no he visto antes y fue bueno para entender los opiniones de la gente en las calles de la CDMX. From an American perspective....I saw the movie and thought it was very well done with great acting and powerful themes. As an American married to a Mexican from Mexico City, and as someone who has spent a lot of time in Mexico, I felt I understood a lot of the subtleties. I'd almost guarantee, if you interviewed Americans, most would have no idea whatsoever what Roma is and probably have no idea why that's the title of the movie. I believe a lot of the details of the movie are probably lost on most Americans. Good interviews in this piece, Juan.

This movie spoke to me. I spent the entire summer of '70 in D.F., during the Copa Mundial, México 70 with relatives. I saw a banner for that on the bedroom of one of the boys in the film. Some relatives lived in Colonia Roma, in a house like that. In those years these cars were too wide for the garages and I even saw a side mirror knocked off LOL. I remember the servants, one of whom got pregnant by the chofer. I remember the lady who came to wash. I remember the servants who kept calling me el Joven Mark after I was 50!! I think that the movie has a niche audience and especially has meaning for those of us who lived it. I, the gringo cousin, even remember the demonstrations in the street. It was brilliant to film it in black and white. Como dijo la actriz chiquita, "está muy padre el director". Padrísimo!

Me interesa, por que la chica de españa le digo que el luche de classes y el tema racial han impactado mucho más en otros países, que en Mexico, y por que esto es el caso? Cuando ví Roma, me parecí que estas temas eran muy importante en la película, pero muchas personas en este vídeo no las mencionaron. Me gusto mucho Roma, especialmente el rendimiento de Yalitza Aparicio y las referencias de la historia de Mexico. Gracias Juan!

Si creo que es importante y obvio para todos, pero para Mexico, ya lo sabian, en otras partes del mundo, es raro y diferente que existe eso en Mexico entonces que para ellos es mas sorprendente.

My favorite Mexican film for a long time has been Amores Perros. I haven't yet seen Roma but from the trailer I can see that it has the touch of genius on it.

Mexican filmmakers are true artists. If you loved these two films then I recommend you Amat Escalante, Carlos Reygadas & Alonso Ruizpalacios, to name just a few. They are kind of the generation following Cuarón, Iñarritú & Del Toro and they've done some pretty relevant films!

I was around in the 1970s but I was a little kid in the UK. I remember the World Cup held in Mexico 1970.

I am an American and lived in Mexico City one summer when I was a teenager.I was attending the Universidad de las Americas for the summer and the school arranged for a small group of American girls to live a little outside of the city in a wealthy neighborhood next door to Cantinflas they said. The Roma story is the story that I saw and lived during my time in Mexico. Watching that movie was like reliving my time there. The husband of the family had left his wife and she was suffering terribly. She lived with her difficult son who seemed to have serious emotional problems. There was a maid who silently prepared the meals. The feelings I had while living there made me sad and eventually the group of girls left to rent an apartment in Zona Rosa. I was so deeply moved by Roma. It was a very distinct time in the late 60's that I witnessed.

Muy padre esas entrevistas, Juan. Yo aún no he visto la peli Roma, pero me quiero verla. Es muy chevre que, hace algunos años, el cinema mexicano esté destacandose a nivel mundial. Pues el cinema brasileño hace mucho no tiene papel importante mundialmente.

Muy buen video y me gustó escuchar lo que otras personas tenían que decir sobre la película. Me encantó mucho y, aunque estaba muy contento de que el director ganara para dirección y cinematografía y película extranjera en los Oscar, también sentí que merecía ganar la mejor película. Sin embargo, ¡es bastante impresionante cómo las películas fuera de México han atraído a una amplia audiencia en todo el mundo!

Wow, if only you had asked more people who had lived through it, whose friends were among those murdered students etc. I'm not sure if I should suggest that such a person watch, to re-live that trauma. The situation is very deep and the movie certainly addresses many layers, although not all. It was done from such an interesting perspective though. I hope that people will take the time to study the history of the moment, because it's something virtually unknown in the U.S., and I believe also little known in Mexico. Maybe learn how both the U.S. and the Cuban governments were involved. Then take a look at what's happening in Venezuela, and what has recently happened in Guatemala, and other Latin American countries etc. Thank you for making this video.

It's a spelling mistake from the subtitles. She's saying «me encantó». «Me fascinó» in past tense. Every correction will be clarified in the description box, just as we've added this one now. We'll be more careful regarding typos! Thank you for your feedback!

Dice “yo no espero gran cosa”. Por dos razones podemos saber esto: 1. Es una expresión común usada únicamente en el sentido negativo, es raro que se utilice como “yo espero gran cosa”. 2. Gracias al tono con que lo dice y debido a sus argumentos siguientes se puede intuir que no espera que Roma gané muchos premios porque para él, que la película esté nominada en tantas categorías, ya es un triunfo :)

Yo tengo otra storia...de una mujer del pueblo...q nos ayudaba..con un bebe...increiblemente...una experiencia. Q recuerdo Toda mi vida.. Y ROMA..NO REPRESENTA A MEXICO ROMA REPRESENTA A (MEXICO INDIGENA.)

Creo que Roma fue de la pocas películas buenas que mexico produce es buena desde todos los ángulos que la veas. Lamentablemente en nuestro cine mexicano casi siempre producimos películas basura que no generan ese manejo de detalles que roma lo hizo.

Hay que recordar que yalitzia fue menos preciada por los mismos actores mexicanos y la llamaron india, reflejando clasismo y racismo que no se quiere aceptar en la sociedad mexicana.

1-Clase sociales ..entre los mexicanos y los mexicanos de verdad( indigenas) El director unico q tuvo los huvis para contractor a una dama indigena como la principal Estrella. Y como uno mismo vivio esas experiencias y respetando a trabajadores..como en la pelicula ...no hay racismo...solo por parte DEL GOVIERNO..POR NO APOYAR ALA COMUNIDAD INDIGENA.. Tambien la historia de los 70s los alcones. .la corrupcion para parar a la Libertad de exprecion..de UNAM..

Estan medias pendejas las respuesta, no? 😴🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Mucho...dobre todo los mas jóvenes..

La verdad la película está sobrevalorada y aburrida. Me dormí a la mitad de la película. Esa película sólo fortalece la idea de que los morenos son pobres y trabajan para los blancos. Véase televisa con las novelas, muy mala película.

Por desgracia, no comprendo por qué la gente le gusta esta película. Creo que esta sobrevalorada y aburrida. Apenas tenia una historia y se movió muy lentamente, en mi opinión. Recomiendo El Fugitivo por John Ford.
