Yes, I will stand up against people who act immoral. And I had to laugh at the "even if they could've helped me". They would never help me in a million years and besides, I neither need nor want their help. It was part of the issue that they acted superior to me. It's why I cut them off and still speak against them. Funny you mention that about your family making fatphobic comments. Some of the people in my family aren't necessarily phobic, but they can say really insensitive things about trans or lgbt people or be sexist. Whenever I tried to go against that in the past, I would immediately be labeled as too woke instead of just a progressive humanitarian. I think it's sad that society is still so behind in certain ways.
