The Moster 185 is pretty much the industry standard as far as paramotor engines go. It's been my go to for the last five years and has really served me well. If you have any questions about this engine, be sure to drop them down below! Also, I filmed an interesting episode last night where I came across a black bear midflight. Stay tuned! P.S. This video was filmed before I got the new Freeride. 😉

The 360 degree camera shots are awesome! Keep it up, adds a whole new dimension to the videos!
Enjoying most of your videos. I'm still very new into this sports, but undoubtedly it's lots of fun flying on paramotor. Thank you for very useful review on Moster 185 (I'm using Moster and much happier about it after watching your video).
Great video and don't disagree with the conclusion - would have been great if you mentioned or discussed some of the other motors you have flown in comparison.
Awesome information, Tucker. Thanks for the video. :)
Been doing my P2 for the past month. Ordered a Kangook w/ a moster 185! Can't wait to start flying it!
DUDE! nice action on the khruangbin music!! Thank you for the info on motors

Your vids are the best to watch ab paramotoring
Tucker Gott Excellent review of 185 clear concise easily understandable. Great job you are a credit to paramotor understanding and help us who are counting the cost as we consider the way into paramotor fight and is that possible. Does Honda Kawasaki, or Yamaha make a paramotor engine or platform of some sort? Here's a considerable task for vlog: What is the best way into paramotor flight as a reality for a beginner, & how do I start what steps should I begin with? Do I need to own equipment first a baby steps entry or just dive in financially jump off the dock and learn to swim or in this case fly. What do I do to start with? Maybe this seems apparent to you buy not all of us live among your community and we definitely don't have your life experiences. Thanks David
As the new 2020 engine has a Nikasil coating on the cylinders you must ensure that you use low sulphur content fuel. The fuel in Europe is pretty much all very low sulphur but there are gas suppliers in the US which have a high sulphur content. Unfortunately sulphur in the fuel will turn in to sulphuric acid in the cylinders and eat away at the Nikasil coating. BMW got caught out by this having only tested their engines using European grade fuel and then found they had lots of problems with vehicles sold in the US.
Informative video, as always😊 Thx
Question for Tucker or anyone else: Why haven't paramotor pilots ever petitioned the big 4 (Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki) to build a reasonably priced, completely reliable 1000 hour engine? If anyone could do it, they could. I'm planning to get into paramotoring within the next year but for the money spent there's simply no value. $6-10,000 is a lot of money considering the maintenance and reliability issues I've seen paramotor pilots deal with. It's ridiculous. I own 10 motorcycles (no joke, just click on my name), I hold a PPL and I'm a retired A&P mechanic so I wasn't born yesterday. I know there's a lot of brand loyalty out there and I'm not trying to stir up 'tihs' here but I guaranty Honda or the others could build a 2 stroke engine that would run circles around what's currently being used. They know how to build small, high performance, reliable engines, that's all they do. Thanks.

@@duanetschmidt and Richard C, thank you for the replies. It's just that I've been a mechanic for most of my life and I've never seen an engine so overpriced as these little 2 stroke paramotor engines. There's no way, even considering development and tooling, that an 80-200cc 2 stroke engine is WORTH what they're charging. I guess it's supply and demand but it's a real turn-off watching vids of these things breaking down over frivolous maintenance issues in less than 200hrs. Throttle cables breaking, exhausts cracking, clutches falling apart, etc. These are petty, petty issues for any engine manufacturer, they're no more reliable than a $100 Chinese lawnmower engine from Harbor Freight. Again, thanks, that's my 2 cents.

Thank you for that awesome info
I have a Moster 185 on a Miniplane frame. Agree with all your points, and would add one. When you do have to rebuild the carb, or change out even major pieces like the piston liner, it is doable. It's not a thousand step process that requires sending it to Vittorazi. All the directions are online. This means that you can buy one and keep it running a long long time. Fact is(I won't throw any manufacturer under the bus), many/most paramotor engines are really hard to do work on because in an effort to squeeze everything in screws and connections are super hard to access without pulling everything apart to the bones.
Excellent video Tucker !!

You are the best youtuber :) keep up the good work
I need one. Thanks for the break down on all the changes. Really thought it was just the exhaust change.
Just hit 50 hours on my atom. Only issue I've had was fuel starvation (my fault due to incorrect fuel line) and the starter sticking (the tangs are greased and they stuck in). Other than that rock solid. Still silky.
Good stuff! I am waiting to see what the Cosmos is going to be capable of. I like the gearbox arraignment on it, much like the Atom80. Very Cool 👍😁👍

The Moster 185 is a lot like the LS I think, in that they have a huge standing behind them, there's loads of them, and theres even a pretty solid aftermarket scene around them.
Just a mild swoopie doop.....hucks a 180 autorotation and sticks the LZ with his eyes closed.

Its like a good wife... if it isn't broken why change it out? Even if a person doesn't use/test/try another engine doesn't mean their insight is off. I would think anyone flying would know about all the engines out there. It was the reason they choose to go with a brand to start with in their research. Then using the fact that for 5 years their life has been great with the motor. I call that a perfect test time..
Great vid, Tucker! I've got the Blackhawk Talon 190 3.0. Alot of what the manufacturer has engineered into this motor, it seems they've copied from the Moster. Not a bad thing I figure. Time will tell of it's reliability. Still practicing. Got out yesterday - only my 2nd time this year so far. Between work and wind up here, the time is few and far between, unfortunately. At this rate this engine should last me 4- 5 DECADES, LOL! 😂

Tucker, I'm an "older" guy looking to get into "trike" PPG. I would like to know your opinion on using a used Ozone FLX.2, SIZE 18, as a ground handling kiting wing only. When you started using the moster 185 five years back, what wing were you using? If you had to guess, what was your fuel burn like and how was your flying style? It's always a tossup between the atom 80 and the 185. I don't know if I want to lug around that much weight with the 185. What was the burn like when you were on the atom 80 ? Thanks for your help.

Could you potentially have a semi-fixed paramotor wing? Maybe stiff light wire along the wing to stop it ever collapsing?

kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIOKj6inZKzbZqQ.html This guy tried a carbon fiber spar in his. I’ve wondered why they don’t make wings with inflation structure like kite boarding. Apparently partial collapses and rein flatiron is safer than having a rigid wing
What oil and oil ratio do you run?
What about the air conception NITRO 200? seems like a really good engine too

I've noticed my my19 moster is getting more difficult to start lately... (10 hours on motor) Checked the spark plug and it looks good. I looked at the carb and noticed that my idle screw is pretty much all the way in. I need to adjust the low jet screw, but I'm not sure which way to do it... Any advice?
@wills.5762
4 жыл бұрын
Screwing out allows more fuel in, screwing in does the opposite. Righty tighty lefty loosey. That said, I wouldnt adjust anything for a few more hours. My 185 was kinda all over the place for the first 12 hours or so, then it smartened right up. Bump the idle up a little, but I wouldnt adjust the mixture at all unless your spark plug is ashy or dark.
@augustreil
4 жыл бұрын
You first need to determine how many turns it is out and that is done by screwing the jet in all the way, counting the turns as you go, This is super important and don't use a lot of torque or you'll ruin the jet. If any adjustments are made, 1/4-1/2 turn out at most each time and see if you notice anything, but no more than that.
What is your opinion on the top 80
Hey Tucker , I have been watching your videos for a good while now. I was thinking what if the wing were made out of some sort of rigid material to prevent collapsing or if there was a way after the wing is up there some how some way of making the wing rigid to prevent collapsing . There has to be a way or a material that would work. Thats my biggest fear would be taking a collapse .
which 360 camera do you use in this video?
How much was your motor and wing set-up?
Hi Tucker gott... I love your video. I wish I can do the same. I welcome you to Australia 🇦🇺
Do you do your own maintenance on the engines.

what is the weight capacity for each motor? no clue. just asking for general weight categories.
I want to do this so badly..
About how much for a complete set up? Out of curiosity
u best
can u use a rotax 912 in a paramotor
TG, do you ever wear eye protection while flying? Ever had an issue?
I have just two questions but important questions: 1. Why twin motors (boxers) are not used in paragliding? They are virtually vibration free. 2. Why Micro-V belts are used for speed reduction instead if much more durable and forgiving toothed belts?
Another thing you didn't mention is cooling. I always see people on other motors always fussing over their cylinder head temperatures, but with the Vittorazi 185 and the cooling shroud, it's a non-issue for us...especially if you have the Scout prop.
