    Unfortunately, that’s quite normal. Watch JayEmm’s video on his old Ferrari, also supplied by a main dealer, also with a bunch of issues which he had to get them to take care of.

    I'm going to view one of these on Wednesday. Thanks for the video, it was very informative and gives me a good idea of what i should be looking for. Regarding the rear bumper, I'd leave it well alone. The Anniversary models are so rare and these are always commanding a slightly higher premium than the other models. However, as long as it can be returned to standard spec, then I would encourage the owner to crack on, enjoy his car and not worry about what others think of their modifications.

    Hello F G P. Great vid lots of info and insights. Must agree it needs round lights, straight across splitter, Fuchs wheels and duck tail. But…. My 40th 911 is as original as possible and has to stay that way. Any numbered limited Porsche is like any treasured collectible. Enjoy it like crazy, forget any clever mods though. Loads of other C2S or similar 911s around to make a classic look out of. Loads of small ways to improve it of course. Conti Extreme Sport tyres, Bilstein B6 shocks, Pagid Pads, meticulous set up on everything. Especially the shift linkage. I still can’t believe how fast it is on our regular mountain drives. The switchable mufflers do a decent bellow, when shot though…Fabspeed system? Oooo that looks good, $$$! Interestingly, some of the original buyers did all the mods above and put the stock pieces away for resale time. All the best from Canada west.

    I do see the visual imbalance between from bumper and narrow body. But, I wouldn’t ducktail it. I’ve seen some examples & to my eyes, it looks like trying too hard to make out it’s something that it’s not. I prefer the front splitter to be in the original black finish. I like the wheels especially if my understanding about them is correct, that they’re simply a standard pattern for the 996 non Turbo cars, but polished alloy, not painted. Reason I like that is the opposite of the reason lots don’t like them! That is, that you need to keep on top of polishing, else they’ll steadily corrode. I enjoy polishing metals and am quite practised at doing it (and very messy it is, too!). I like the sound of those Militech back boxes, though given a free hit, I’d want one of these cars to have OE PSE. I really like the body coloured seat backs, but I’d prefer the so called comfort seats with their electrical adjustability (& memory for at least the drivers seat iirc). That little bit more power sounds fun. Not huge, but nice. I’ve no experience with driving 911s, so I can’t say anything about MO30 suspension. Lovely car, super colour, too!

I really could feel the engine breath easier and accelerate better. I had it installed in the San Francisco area at a Porsche shop, not too expensive, cant remember how much. I would do it again if I had another 996 X51 for sure. Good luck!

    Thanks for the feedback! R.e. the bumper, the same question was made above, which I answered as follows: I think it's just how the light is hitting the panels from that particular camera angle. The front bumper tapers down from the bonnet and reflects the light differently, which is exaggerated further through a camera. If you look at 15:15 of the video, you could persuade your eyes into believing the top 150mm of the door is a lighter shade than the rest of the door, but it's just the light hitting its curvature at a different angle and reflecting differently. You are right though, painting a plastic bumper alongside a metal bonnet can be tricky. Silver also isn't the easiest of colours to match. However, in the flesh, and in the photos we took of the car, the colour match was very good. We're really pleased with the work our body-shop does for us and have been using them for many years now. Thanks again for your comment and I hope you enjoyed the video. Luke

    I Love the inboard cam at the end of the vid :-) Reminds me on my own 992.2 C2 (unfortunately I had engine failure and finally sold it - but makes me want one again I guess). Question: I also had some wear on the condensers - It seems to be unpopular to add some protection to it like some aloy mesh or sth similar. It would be not too much effort (you already removed the bumper anyways) and it can be added in a manner so it does not really strike too much (spoil the looks). I consider the impact on cooling performance being low and the impact on durability very high. Why is it so unpopular to do that? Maybe you may let me know: How many engine failures do you have in your shop per year? This was a very "unpleasant" experience for me.

  • @friendsgreenporsche5234

    @friendsgreenporsche5234

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Crafting Mat, I'm never sure whether the onboard footage will bore the viewers, but I love it too, it reminds me of my Go Pro mounted to the front end of my kart during my racing days. The condensers aren't a massively expensive fix (we charge £299.00 + VAT to renew both). The most common cause of damage and wear is debris build up in the air duct, which then decomposes and rots out the corners of the condensers. We therefore recommend to our customers that they get their hoover into the air ducts every now and then to remove the leaf debris etc. It only takes five minutes and most hoovers have a nozzle that will get in there without an issue. Of course stones can fly into the air ducts and damage the condensers, too, but it's less common than the above cause of damage. The mesh grills would protect from stones, but they do look a bit unsightly, do restrict air flow (particularly if the mesh grilling is dense enough to stop all stones), and do prevent a hoover from getting into the air duct to remove any finer debris that finds its way past the mesh. We don't see very many engine failures. The most recent was a 987.2 Cayman. Its air/oil separator failed and the car was then run on very little oil, which resulted in it seizing. Thank you for watching!

    @@friendsgreenporsche5234 Thanks a lot for this detailed answer and insight! Very appreciated! I hear you... and I think you conviced me (on the mesh thingy). At the moment I unfortunately do no longer own a Porsche. I'd love to get one again for sure. Maybe next year. Be sure I like your content, especially when you dive in deep and explain. Even if there is not too much news for me, I still like talking Porsche (or sports cars in general). I was missing a hint to the silver framed air inlet of the X51 pack which you can see even if the hood is closed. You can easily tell by this already right from the start if a 996 has X51 or not (but I guess this was too obvious for you to mention?). But other than that I think you ticked all the boxes. Go ahead with onboard... you can add it always to the end of the vids and those who dont care will just skip... really like that :-)

    Personally I think that painting the bottom of the front bumper in silver emphasises the mismatch between the design of the front and rear. It looks like a bigger bumper when it’s painted all the way to the bottom. I agree that it improves the look from the side though so I can see why the customer wanted it. Once you see the difference in VAG silver between plastic and metal you will never be able to unsee it. Had some body work done on my 2017 GTI and bumper and quarter panel don’t match. And the “best in the business” body shop could not get it to match. Now I notice it on every silver Porsche even those that have not had bodywork. For this reason I will not buy a silver 996 (in any variation). Shame too because that 40 Jahre is the bees knees!
