As a failed fashion photographer straddling the absurd idea idea of embarking into filmmaking : the more that I view coloring videos; the more that I appreciate the mastery required to do this well (and that I have zero desire to do this myself). You guys are magicians.

Honestly colour is the closest thing we got to taste in films, it's definitely super important if you make films like john wick with that sweet taste in a next chapter.
"I wanna make my life difficult, not easy." 😅 Yep, that pretty much describes RGB mixers. Pretty awesome that you can swing colors around without breaking skintones! It's gonna take a while for me to wrap my mind around this one haha. Thanks for the tip!

This is incredible, thank you! JWC4 is my favorite out of the saga precisely because it's so colorful while maintaining that world's grittiness. I want to learn about color grading and your free course will surely hep me out with that. I am just waiting for my 4K ASUS ProArt monitor to arrive and then I will start editing some footage I have recorded from some of my travels and trips. You have won me as a subscriber man!
You’re the goat! I’ve been watching your tutorial for a couple of years now, and all I can say is thank you so much for providing concise and topical videos like this one! I’m more on the colorful/saturated spectrum of taste in general, and I loved the grading in the last John Wick, I was expecting and looking forward to see a new video of you about it!

Dude, at the 0:14 you missed one of the key roles on why JW4 looks so awesome: the Production Designer.
This is what I love we are so hooked on the past and always pumping film grain halation diffuser filters but we are moving away from that and we need to start embracing it more i for one am going to start practicing this form more and more ( as I have been doing the typical thing for a while lol ) Also how did you get the movie clips to look so clean in your vid ???

Firstly great video as always. I love the way you examine and talk about the colours and investigate how they’re achieved. Second and I mean this as a discussion piece rather than any sort of dig at colourists. What are peoples thoughts on the whole orange / teal thing are we at risk of badly dating work with a heavily over used style in the same way that photographers went nuts with spot colour the advent of digital? Is that a bad thing to date with a style, or is it good because it shows a certain point in time in cinematography and would anyone care to take a punt at a prediction for what colour mix would come next?
@theqazman
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mark. Orange and teal has been there since the first colored film. Mostly it's done on set thru lights or art direction. This is totally different than say something like Transformers that has been dated. Complementary colors are always pleasing to the eye same as purple and yellow or green and magenta. Simple human psychology and I don't thing it's going anywhere.
@markhardycreative
Жыл бұрын
@@theqazman That's really interesting with the link to human psychology I guess that's how it differs from just 'a look' like other things. I think its just because I started noticing it more and more and its one of those things once you see it once and start questioning you cant stop seeing it everywhere. I was watching 300 recently I love the colour of that with the warm yellow tones mixed with those desaturated reds mixed and I remember a whole host of films coming out afterwards doing a similar thing, and it made me wonder are we seeing 'a look' here of this time in cinematography or something else. I do completely agree with what you've written here it just makes me more inquizative to explore into other looks which is a good thing 😆

hello friend, thx for this videos. Could you please tell me why you are editing colour and exposure after the cst? why you are in other videos working on DW with two cst at the start and in the end¿ Im trying to edit slog2 footage and many people edit like you on this videos, but then i see pros grading between dw cst :( Do you have more information after converting to rec709? Thanks for all
Waqas, I'm following you for quite a while and I really think you're one of the best color graders out there. A question: from your experience, if you apply THE SAME grade to a 60 fps footage and a 24 (30) fps footage, will the final result be the same? I mean, will it feel the same no matter the frame rate? Thank you.

quick question, what do we do when e have a project set to end up in theatres and on a streaming platform simultaneously? do we make two grades, knowing that the colour gamut chosen during production is DCI-P3, logically? it's all very confusing.
Why working in the DV Wide Gamut Color Space instead of just converting to Rec709 at the end only ?
This webinar thing isn't working at all man, could you please make a video on how can we access all its features?!

I have a question about IDT and ODT. I'm shooting on a RED Komodo and every time I convert to DWG and then convert to Rec.709 at the end, everything gets completely crushed. The image ends up coming out looking like a vector. Would this have to do with my color management settings? Do I have to be set up in ACES in order for this to work properly?
