The happiest nations are the ones where there are the least poor people and not the ones where there are the richest people in the world. In Finland there are no homeless people, in Finland people think it is bad karma if you do not help the fellow citizen. Helping is not throwing a coin for a beggar but giving all the citizens a chance to live well with good free education and all the opportunities in the world. There are in India much more rich persons than people in Finland.. but the rich ones in India do not share their wealth with the poor ones.

Seems like a country with a social welfare net tends to rank better. Of course give ppl money, they would be happy. Those countries without a social walfare tend tend to rank worst. The outlays tend to be Latin-America. On the last happiness poll many Latin-American countries ranked better then south korea and japan. Though japan and south korea are very competitive countries in their social order.

Have you noticed that most of the socialist countries who focus on human developement through economic developement are the happiest countries. These countries do set up industries but the purpose is welfare of people living in it. These countries do not focus on how many billionaires they produce but one income equality, honesty, integrity education, healthcare and general well being of people. And most importantly these countries do not go on war with each other. Peace is a prerequisite for developement. And most of the heavily capitalist countries who set up Industries just with the objective of creating wealth for the capital investors are one of the most corrupt and unhappiest countries in the world. Food for thought. That is why one should not be extremely left leaning or right leaning. You should be balanced and centered, a liberal, secular, peaceful, honest, caring, compassionate citizen with integrity.

No creo que las variables que se manejaron en este estudio sean las correctas, el tener todos esos valores en calidad de vida no te hacen feliz, aunque parezca extraño, los finlandeses están acostumbrados eso es lo normal para ellos, no necesariamente son más felices por eso.

I know Canadians who go at least yearly to Minnesota for medical care, and here in Florida we see many Canadians who have come down for medical care. In fact 1000's of Canadians travel to the States for medical care each year.......Friends in Finland pay high taxes for "free" medical care and then go to private clinics for their care

Hard to do. First off, define happiness. Feeling or showing pleasure or contentment. Fortunate or convenient is another definition. Those are the definitions i see out there. A small wealthy country, with a wealthy population will do better then India in happiness. If Finland was the population and size of India, would Finland be as happy? I'm sure 3 Finlands can fit in New Deli. The USA moved up in the happiness ranks....you think with George Floyd, BLM protests, and mass shootings every 60 days, the capitol insurrection. The USA would stay the same or move down in the scale. I believe the happiness index is mistaken.

@Big blue whale I never said finland was a welfare country or as been one, but they do have solid social safety net. That social safety net does play into the happiness survey. If "working very hard and making right decisions" as you said, is the key to national happiness, Mexico would rank more happy then they currently rank. As they spend most days at work as a nation, is more capitalistic then the USA, and have a recent history of electing business executives to office that "makes the right decision" as a nation.(Fox, Pena, Salinas) but all that happiness did not "trickle down" now mexico has AMLO or "Trump of the left" left leaning populist. I disagree with you.

Bull! Watch The video "Country alcohol consumption comparison." Finland's alcohol consumption has dropped drasticly down in 10 years. In Europe The highest alcohol consumption countries are: the 1st Moldova, the 2 nd Lithuania the 3rd Chechia and the 4th Germany. Finland is likely in the middle even under. Forinstance Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Ireland, UK, France , Latvia, Cypros, Belarus, Hungary Poland, Luxemburg etc. are ahead of Finland. Also many countries are ahead of Finland on depression.

How can you be happy in a country buried 9 months under snow with no sunlight m. Locked up in a heater run house Depressed alone and trapped!! How can a country be happy where people are so silent and individualistic and no human interaction wat so ever how can you call it a happy country where you eat mostly frozen food from the child storage with no signs of freshness How can you call. It a happy country when you need to think twice before so spending your hard earned money due to high taxes etc Where owning a car or a eating out fine dining is a matter of deep thought and can really burn a hole in your pocket Is this happiness?? Don't know about happiness per se, but answers to your questions on my behalf. I love winter. The darkness not so much, but snow compensates that. You can play ice hockey or ski outside. Also it's not that bad staying in your home, because the silence and individualistic lifestyle pretty much go hand in hand. Don't know where you got that frozen food part, but yes it's an option. However Finland is not USA, supermarkets are full of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat and fish, and traditionally we make our blant dishes from those (it's 100% true that we should spice up our food, there the Indian culture is way ahead of us). The taxes are high for a reason. How do you think the free education and healthcare systems are provided? Taxes are used exactly where they are supposed to be used: to the benefit of the people living in Finland. Not many Finns disagree with this. Owning a car or eating out is expensive, but you can use public transportation or ride a bike wherever you want and eat your picnic outside. Not recommended in winter, that's true.

Nothing! Preaching is 10times easier than practicing. Indian society is too orthodox to respect and value their blessings. Here people are too busy letting down and hating others. hence no credit given to India

Have you noticed that most of the socialist countries who focus on human developement through economic developement are the happiest countries. These countries do set up industries but the purpose is welfare of people living in it. These countries do not focus on how many billionaires they produce but on income equality, honesty, integrity education, healthcare and general well being of people. And most importantly these countries do not go on war with each other. Peace is a prerequisite for developement. And most of the heavily capitalist countries who set up Industries just with the objective of creating wealth for the capital investors are one of the most corrupt and unhappiest countries in the world. Countries who are in a state of war internally or externally are also least developed economically and unhappy. Food for thought. That is why one should not be extremely left leaning or right leaning. You should be balanced and centered, a liberal, secular, peaceful, honest, caring, compassionate citizen with integrity. Watch Michael Moore's documentary "Where to invade next" to understand why the top countries in World Happiness Index are top countries in the world. You will get an idea.
